A scary four-horse spill at Parx on Tuesday resulted in only minor injuries for a pair of jockeys, and all horses involved walked back to their barns under their own power, according to Dani Gibson, Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association director of publicity.
During Tuesday's 10th race, a $7,500 claimer going six furlongs on the dirt, jockey Jeiron Barbosa was aboard wagering favorite Soupster in third position when the filly clipped heels, stumbled badly, and fell. Unable to avoid the fallen horse and subsequently losing their riders were: Hey It's Tati (apprentice Eduviel Ignacio), B B's Rocket Man (Gerardo Milan), and Shirley Greene (Anthony Nunez). In addition, Red Pepper Grill and Jose Gomez pulled up to avoid the incident.
All horses walked back to the barns under their own power, and jockeys Gerardo Milan and Anthony Nunez escaped unharmed.
Both Barbosa and Ignacio were transported to the hospital after the spill, and according to Gibson, suffered only minor injuries. Ignacio will undergo a surgical repair of his clavicle on Wednesday, and both jockeys will be sidelined.
A stewards' inquiry was held into the race, after which second-place finisher Sea Fret and jockey Luis Ocasio were disqualified and placed sixth.
