The Fanduel Meet at Kentucky Downs is underway, featuring some of the nation's largest purses and field sizes, and one of the most attractive wagering menus on the racing calendar. The Paulick Report's Longshot Look will help you get the most out of one of North America's premier turf meets.
For each card of the seven-day meet, J.D. Fox will single out a price play with his reasoning for what makes the horse worth a look when they might go overlooked.
On Saturday's card, J.D. will spotlight a colt in Race 8, the one-mile Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Stakes, who showed a lot in his debut earlier this summer at Ellis Park, even if it wasn't a winning effort.
If his top pick doesn't make the gate, J.D.'s “Scratch Saver” pick comes in Race 9, a 6 1/2-furlong allowance optional claiming race, where he will focus on #4 Ride the Plan.
Ride the Plan posted back-to-back dominant victories going six furlongs on the dirt at Hawthorne Race Course and Colonial Downs heading into Saturday's race, where he tries turf for the first time. Dam Capital Plan was a multiple graded stakes winner on turf in California. He should sit right off the leaders, and at morning line odds of 12-1, he could provide plenty of value in what figures to be a full field.
Kentucky Downs' 2022 meet takes place Sept. 1, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11, and 14. First post each day is at 12:25 p.m. Central, except for the Saturday, Sept. 10 card, which features a special start time of 11:30 a.m. Central.
