Classic winner Native Trail (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) is “thriving” ahead of a start in Wednesday's G1 Juddmonte International S., according to trainer Charlie Appleby. The Godolphin-owned colt was most recently third in the G1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last month.
“He's got the constitution of a rhinoceros–he just loves it,” he told Sky Sports Racing. “He actually gets a bit depressed when he doesn't get on with his work, so for the last three weeks we've been winding him up and he's thriving on it.
“As we all know he's the most gorgeous looking horse and we're keen to go over the extended mile and a quarter again. It was a good, solid run on his first run over a mile and a quarter in the Eclipse. He's been there and done it now.
“We've all got Baaeed (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) to beat, we know that, but at least we've cut our teeth over the mile and a quarter, so we'll take that as an advantage.”
Undefeated at two with three group wins including the G1 National S. and G1 Dewhurst S., the bay added the G3 Craven S. at three and was second to stablemate Coroebus (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G1 2000 Guineas in May. Shipped to Ireland, he was a 1 3/4-length victor of the May 21 G1 Irish 2000 Guineas prior to his Eclipse third.
