ThoroughbredAuctions.com will conduct the Sam F. “Sonny” Henderson horse dispersal. The dispersal will be an “online auction only “ event. Bidding will open July 13, 2022 and close July 18, 2022. Many of the offerings will be selling with no reserve. The catalog will be available at ThoroughbredAuctions.com.
Highlighting the auction will be 2022 Sunland Park Oaks winner Cleopatra's Charge. The daughter of Will Take Charge, out of the Smart Strike mare Cleopatra's Finest by Smart Strike is a homebred 3-year-old filly who has won two of eight starts, with earnings of over $200,000. She is currently in training and was black type-placed in her last start.
Other offerings include mares bred to Maclean's Music, Kantharos, Dialed In, and Mitole, as well as regional stallions Flat Out, Dorrance, and AQHA stallion Pa Cha Ching.
Some of the mares will sell as three-in-0ne packages, which include foals by Munnings, Outwork, Brody's Cause, Flat Out, and Dorrance, among others.
Horses in training include youngsters by stallions such as Nyquist, Outwork, Kitten's Joy and Right Rigger.
Sonny Henderson is a Texas rancher and oilman who's been involved in horse racing since the early 1960s. A legend in Quarter Horse racing, Sonny has also succeeded at the highest levels in Thoroughbred racing. In 2016, his checkered silks were seen on the Donny Von Hemel trainee Suddenbreakingnews, winner of the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes, to a fifth place finish in the Kentucky Derby. The Mineshaft gelding had career earnings of $767,089.
Prospective buyers will need to go to the auction website, and create an account. They will then need to request a bidder's number in order to bid.
