A $2,000 Pick Your Prize Handicapping Challenge on Saturday and a $300 Handicapping Contest on Sunday are among the highlights for Monmouth Park's upcoming weekend of racing.
The Pick Your Prize Handicapping Challenge is by reservation only. Players will be competing on site or through TVG or Xpressbet. The cost is $2,000, with $1,000 of that going toward the non-refundable entry fee and the other $1,000 to be used as the contest bankroll.
Reservations for onsite or TVG contestants can be made through Friday by contacting Brian Skirka at bskirka@monmouthpark.com or by calling 732-571-6595. Registration through Xpressbet is open until noon on Saturday.
Prizes available are 20 NHC seats and five BCBC seats plus cash.
There is a five-race minimum bet with no maximum on the number of races a contestant may wager on. The minimum bet per race is $200.
The wagering format will be win, place, show, exacta and Daily Doubles on Monmouth Park races only. For those onsite, the contest will be in the Turf Club and will include a lunch buffet.
In addition, players will receive a free $20 Fixed Odds bet. Fixed Odds tellers will be stationed in the Turf Club.
Check in is 10 a.m. to noon in the Turf Club.
Saturday is also BetMakers Day, with BetMakers representatives located outside the main Grandstand stairs, outside the group picnic area and on the first floor of the Clubhouse. Patrons will be able to spin a wheel for prizes, including a free Fixed Odds bet.
The racing program will be headlined by the $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes at six furlongs for 3 year olds and up.
Sunday's $300 Handicapping Contest is a walk-up event, with registration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor of the Clubhouse. Contest players will have a $150 bankroll, with the other $150 going toward the entry fee.
Wagering will be on races from Monmouth Park, Belmont Park and Gulfstream Park. A minimum of 10 races must be bet, with a minimum of five being Monmouth Park races. There is no maximum to the number of races that can be wagered on.
The format will be win, place and show only.
In addition to cash, the top two finishers receive an NHC seat.
The feature race on Sunday is Smart N Classy Handicap for Jersey-bred fillies and mares 3 and up. The 50th annual Irish Festival will complement the Sunday racing program.
