Starting to pick up the tempo midway down the backstretch, he gradually passed rivals exiting the far turn and thrust himself into a clear second turning for home as North Carolina (Speightstown) continued to move easily in front. Narrowing the deficit through the stretch, the $1.5 million Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling purchase took over from the pacesetter midstretch and drew off to score by 2 1/4 lengths.
