With eight months still left in the year, a sophomore offered in the Keeneland April sale still has plenty of time to take advantage of their age-related conditions in 2023, and develop into an even better horse in the years to come. Even as we approach the Triple Crown season, there is still plenty of blue sky for many of the 3-year-old runners in the catalog.

Keeneland's Horses of Racing Age Sale offers a unique and valuable opportunity for both buyers and sellers.
At this point in the year, we more or less know which 3-year-olds are going to be vying for spots in the starting gate for the Triple Crown races and summer Grade 1 events. Owners such as SF Bloodstock, China Horse Club, Peter Brant and Madaket Stables have 2-year-olds lined up on the chute waiting for stalls in their trainers' barns.
But, in this game, success means something different from one owner to the next. A second- or third-string horse for one owner could potentially be the head of the class or a foundation broodmare for another. With more than half of the entries being 3-year-olds with a lot more racing in their future, this spring HORA sale allows these owners to move horses on that haven't quite met that bar to make room for the next generation of potential talent.
The catalog in this week's sale includes a variety of horses that could be quite competitive in racing jurisdictions throughout the U. S. and internationally, as well as some fillies and mares that could be a feather in the cap of many breeding operations.
