New Year's Eve at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., finished with a bang, as the track's popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot was hit for $323,024 as 14-1 longshot Sir Oliver reported home on top by 2 ¾ lengths under Tyler Baze.
Purchased for 20 cents through the Maryland-based Hunt Valley wagering hub, the winning numbers and payoffs on races four through nine were as follows: R4, (8) $24.80; R5, (5) $31.00; R6, (1) $3.20; R7, (4) $8.20, R8, (3) $10.20 and R9, (10) $30.00.
With a Jackpot carryover from Sunday of $167,262, there was $204,142 in new money wagered Thursday, creating a total Rainbow 6 Jackpot pool of $371,404.
Today's ninth and final race, a $61,000 maiden special weight at 6 ½ furlongs on turf, attracted a field of 11 three year olds and up and Sir Oliver was the only “live” horse in the Jackpot. A first-time starter owned by Endeavor Farm, he provided trainer Mike Puype a double on the day and gave Baze a sweep of the late Daily Double.
Racing resumes with a nine-race card on New Year's Day, Friday, at Santa Anita, with first post time at 12:30 p.m.
All of Santa Anita's races are offered free of charge at santaanita.com/live and fans can watch and wager at 1st.com/Bet.
