Join us to talk “Hoops and Horses” with trainer D. Wayne Lukas and Bellarmine Coach Scotty Davenport as the Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy Celebrates 21 Years of Ministry to the Backside Workers at Kentucky's Race Tracks.
The Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy has scheduled the 21st annual Race For Grace, traditionally held the Monday prior to the Kentucky Derby. This dinner event raising financial support for the Kentucky Race Track Chaplaincy will be held on Millionaires' Row in the clubhouse at historic Churchill Downs. Scott Davenport, Bellarmine University men's basketball coach who led the Knights to the 2011 NCAA Division II Tournament National Championship, will serve as emcee.
The keynote speaker will be legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas. His career highlights in the Thoroughbred industry include four Kentucky Derby victories, six Preakness Stakes wins, four Belmont Stakes wins, and 20 Breeders' Cup victories, more than any other trainer in racing's championship event.
One of the most prolific trainers of all time, Lukas has conditioned a record 26 Champions, including three—Lady's Secret in 1986, Criminal Type in 1990, and Charismatic in 1999—that were honored as Horse of the Year. Lukas has garnered Eclipse Awards as the country's top trainer in 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1994, and in 2013, he was honored with the Eclipse Award of Merit for his outstanding achievements.
There will be a live auction featuring a box for the 2024 Kentucky Derby and Oaks and a silent auction featuring leather halters from 2023 Kentucky Derby participants, horse racing art and memorabilia.
