Grade 1 Winner Dr. Schivel’s Fee Set At $12,500 For Debut Season At Stud
Dr. Schivel, a Grade 1 winner at two and three, will stand the 2024 breeding season for a fee of $12,500 S&N, Taylor Made Stallions announced today.
Among the top sprinters in the country, Dr. Schivel made the final start of his career in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita. All told, the millionaire son of Violence finished first or second in nine of 15 lifetime starts and defeated 13 Grade 1 winners in his stellar racing career.
Campaigned by Red Baron's Barn, Rancho Temescal, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, and William A. Branch and trained by Mark Glatt, Dr. Schivel is a two-time Grade 1 stakes winner. He captured the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity at two, and in 2021 at three, he defeated older horses in the G1 Bing Crosby Stakes at Del Mar. In that year's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Del Mar, Dr. Schivel finished a close second, losing in a photo finish in a final time of 1:08.49. Dr. Schivel, who recorded four 100-plus Beyer Speed Figures, concludes his racing career having amassed earnings of $1,347,100.
Bred in Kentucky by William A. Branch and Arnold R. Hill, Dr. Schivel is the second-highest earner for his sire Violence, the 12th-ranked general sire in 2023. Dr. Schivel is out of Lil Nugget, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and millionaire Ultra Blend, and his first two dams are both Grade 1 producers.
