Lane’s End Reveals 2024 Stallion Roster, Fees: Quality Road Set At $200,000
Lane's End in Versailles, Ky., has announced the advertised fees for its 2024 stallion roster, led by Quality Road at $200,000.
Quality Road, a 17-year-old son of Elusive Quality, is an industry leader on the racetrack and in the auction ring, led this year by Preakness Stakes winner National Treasure. His yearlings have sold up to $1.1 million this season.
Flightline, the 2022 Horse of the Year, will stand for an advertised fee of $150,000. The 5-year-old son of Tapit stood his first season at stud in 2023 following an unbeaten career on the racetrack, culminating with a victory in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic.
“Flightline was held to 152 mares in his first season, with a book containing an impressive collection of Grade 1 winners and producers,” said Bill Farish of Lane's End. “We adjusted his fee for his second season in keeping with what has become 'industry norm,' while continuing to limit his book close to 150 mares again.”
Veteran sire Candy Ride will stand for $75,000 on the heels of a season led by Grade 1 winners Geaux Rocket Ride and Candied. His son Twirling Candy will stand for $60,000, with top runners in 2023 including Grade 1 winner Exaulted.
Classic winner Arcangelo and multiple Grade 1 winner Up to the Mark will join the Lane's End stallion roster in 2024, with their fees to be determined after their respective starts in the Breeders' Cup.

‘False Rumors’: Ramon Vazquez, Agent Say Rider Not Leaving California
Jockey Ramon Vazquez and agent Bill Castle want it made known Vazquez is staying at Santa Anita this winter and not returning to Oaklawn Park where he had previously ridden.
“I'm not going anywhere,” Vazquez said Friday morning.
Castle said in recent days “four or five different trainers have told me they heard he was going back to Oaklawn.
“We are not leaving the state of California,” Castle said. “There have been a lot of false rumors going around. We're so grateful for the opportunities and support Ramon has been given. This is home.”
Vazquez, 39, arrived in Southern California from Oaklawn in April 2022. He led all riders a year ago, finishing first in Santa Anita's Autumn Meet jockey's standings with 25 wins. Vazquez finished fourth at the 2022-23 Santa Anita Classic Meet behind the powerhouse trio of Juan Hernandez, Flavien Prat and Frankie Dettori. At the Hollywood Meet this past summer, Vazquez was second behind Hernandez.
In addition to his success at Santa Anita, which included his first Grade 1 at the Arcadia track in the Santa Anita Derby earlier this year aboard Practical Move, Vazquez has won or shared five-straight riding titles at Los Alamitos since his arrival.
A native of Puerto Rico, Vazquez enters this week with 3,613 career wins dating back to 2002.

Catching Up with 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Winner Street Sense
With a patented Calvin Borel ride, Street Sense skimmed the rail and ricocheted off the turn with such momentum that perhaps even Borel was caught by surprise, as he glanced back several times before finally easing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner past the wire while 10 lengths clear. Much was made at the time of the 'Juvenile Jinx,' as no Juvenile winner had yet won the GI Kentucky Derby the following year. The charismatic Street Sense promptly put that myth to bed the next spring, then added the GI Travers for good measure. Now two of his own Grade I-winning sons stand alongside him at Darley.
“I looked after Street Sense for his first season in 2008 in Australia,” said stallion manager Graham Lovatt. “Has as much character in a stallion that I've ever worked with. He'll 'ask' for a carrot or a treat when you walk by and will actually lift a leg up as a prompt. He'll know when his pin is out of his stall door and he'll open it up with his nose/muzzle to get his carrot. He's very respectful. Not a mean bone in his body. I've never known him to bite or kick anyone out of malice.”
