Turf Monster Winner Nobody Listens Dies in Trailer Accident

Nobody Listens (Conveyance), the 5-year-old gelding who earned his first graded stakes victory in the GIII Turf Monster S. at Parx Saturday, died in a trailer accident Sunday, according to a Facebook post from co-owner Mike Kwiatowski.

“Yesterday was one of the greatest days when Nobody Listens won the GIII Turf Monster at Parx,” Kwiatowski wrote. “Today was one of the worst. Nobody Listens had an unforeseen and unpreventable trailer incident resulting in us losing him. We love and cherish every moment that we shared with him.

“The ride Nobody Listens took us on was the greatest one we have ever been on. Our hearts are broken as we share this tragic news. Thank you to all who supported and helped make him who he was.”

Trained by Tim Eggleston, Nobody Listens was winning his fourth straight race in Saturday's Turf Monster. He also won the Brickyard H. at Horseshoe Indianapolis and the Parx Dash. A five-time stakes winner, he hit the board in 22 of 26 starts with 14 wins and earnings of $251,361.

Good Magic’s How Did He Do That Gets Best of Blanket Finish in Oklahoma Derby

In a mad dash to the wire, it was How Did He Do That (c, 3, Good Magic–Stormin Maggy, by Storm Cat) who got his nose in front on the line just ahead of late-rallying Red Route One (Gun Runner) and Tumbarumba (Oscar Performance) to win the GIII Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park Sunday night. The 44-1 outsider pressed pacesetting Ghost Hero (Shaman Ghost) through fractions of :23.57 and :48.05 with Tumbarumba just to his inside, while Red Route One was well back in the 12-horse field. How Did He Do That rushed up to put his nose in front just as Tumbarumba was finding room to run at the rail at the top of the lane. Those two foes were going head to head, while Red Route One had worked his way through the entire field and was producing a powerful late rally to bully his way between the two leaders in a dramatic blanket finish.

On a tour of midwest derbies, How Did He Do That was a dead-heat winner of the July 8 Iowa Derby. Sixth behind Tumbarumba in the Aug. 13 Ellis Park Derby, he was coming off a third-place effort in the Sept. 2 Super Derby.

How Did He Do That's dam Stormin Maggy is a half-sister to champion Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet). The mare, carrying a full-sibling to the winner, sold to Chris Nolan for $40,000 at the 2021 Keeneland November sale. That Good Magic filly RNA'd for $120,000 at the recently concluded Keeneland September sale.

How Did He Do That is the seventh graded stakes winner for Good Magic, whose son Mage took down this year's GI Kentucky Derby.

Cox’s Quandry: Breeders’ Cup Or Not For Saudi Crown

Saudi Crown emerged in good order from his tour-de-force triumph in the betParx Pennsylvania Derby (G1) Saturday at Parx Racing, trainer Brad Cox told Dave Grening of Daily Racing Form on Sunday, and the colt's connections are now tasked with charting the course for his next start, whether it be a Breeders' Cup race or the $20-million Saudi Cup (G1) in February, or perhaps both.

Ridden by Florent Geroux, Saudi Crown led out of the gate in the 1 1/8-mile Pennsylvania Derby, made all the pace, and won by a half length from Dreamlike while earning his first stakes victory. In his two previous starts, he came tantalizingly close: the Dwyer (G3) (a nose behind Fort Bragg) July 1 at Belmont and Jim Dandy (G2) (a nose behind champion Forte) July 29 at Saratoga but would not be denied Saturday in a smashing performance. He was expected back to Cox's Churchill Downs barn Sunday night.

The $6-million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) and the $1-million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) Nov. 4 at Santa Anita are both under consideration for Saudi Crown, who was unraced at age 2, but before making a decision Cox said wants to see how those races are shaping up before making a decision.

“I would like to find out who's running where and see how big the fields are going to be, pace projections, and stuff like that would go into what I think,” Cox told the Form.

Should the Saudi Cup at about 1 1/8 miles at King Abdulaziz Racetrack be targeted, Cox said a Breeders' Cup race could still be in play.
