Watch: British Mare Encounters Unconventional Training Partners During Gallop

A mare working out in England had some unexpected company during her gallop this week.

Trainer Joe Tickle posted the video below showing 7-year-old Simple Words encountering a herd of running deer during a workout on an artificial surface gallop course in North Devon.

Tickle told the Paulick Report that Simple Words is “very sensible” and that the deer are a common sight for Thoroughbreds working out in the area. Simple Words was out for a work at Nigel Hawke Thorne Farm near Tiverton.

“She's a racehorse so she is used to galloping in close proximity to other horses,” Tickle said when asked about the mare's relaxed attitude in a moment that may have overfaced other horses.

Tickle took over the training of Simple Words before her return to the races earlier this season. She is entered on Thursday at Salisbury.
