Wood Ditton Hero Passenger Supplemented To Dante Field

The Niarcho Family's Passenger (Ulysses {Ire}) has been supplemented to the G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. at York on May 18. His addition brings the potential field to 14 runners.

Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the Wood Ditton Maiden S. winner will follow the path of last year's G1 Derby winner Desert Crown (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}), who won the Dante en route to Classic honours at Epsom. Connections paid £14,000 to supplement Passenger, who was scratched from the Listed Dee S. at Chester earlier this week due to ground concerns. The Betfred Derby will take place on Saturday, June 3, and Stoute's colt would also need to be supplemented to that contest, if all goes well on the Knavesmire.

Other entries for the York feature include Listed Blue Riband Trial hero Epictetus (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) from John and Thady Gosden, Flying Honours (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) for Charlie Appleby, and Dear My Friend (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) from the Charlie Johnston yard.

“We've got lots of excited owners on our hands at the moment,” said Middleham Park's Mike Prince of Listed Burradon S. winner Dear My Friend. “Very much the dream is still alive! We'll have a big crowd there next Thursday and they're just really excited, just to see how his season develops. The syndicate were absolutely delighted with his run at Newcastle–the form is working out nicely.

“Him and Flight Plan (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) had a ding-dong battle in the final furlong but he was quite comfortably on top in the last 100 yards and looked to be extending away.

“He's got a lovely, long stride on him and we think that stride-length will come into play when we step him up to a mile and two. We're pretty adamant that the step up in trip will suit him.”

Never to be discounted in a Classic prep is Aidan O'Brien, who has both the stakes-winning Cairo (Ire) (Quality Road) and two-for-two Continuous (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}) entered, while John Murphy's G3 Ballysax S. hero White Birch (GB) (Uyllses {Ire}) is another possible starter. Listed winner Canberra Legend (Ire) (Australia {GB}), G2 Royal Lodge S. hero The Foxes (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}) and the Group 3-placed Dancing Magic (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), are also signed on.

HISA’S ADMC Program To Take Effect May 22

Following a launch March 27, the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) plans to resume enforcement of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority's (HISA) Anti-Doping and Medication Control (ADMC) Program May 22. The program seeks to implement the following:

Transparency: The ADMC Program requires public disclosure of alleged Anti-Doping Rule Violations once the Covered Person has been notified of the violation and Provisionally Suspended. The alleged violation will be reported by HIWU on its website, and the public information disclosed will include the date of the collection, the name of the Covered Person, the identity of the Covered Horse, the alleged ADMC Program Rule Violation, and the Prohibited Substance or Method detected/involved. Alleged Controlled Medication Rule Violations will be publicly disclosed once the B (“split”) Sample is confirmed by another lab or analysis of the Sample is waived by the Covered Person. In short, it will take weeks, not months, for an alleged violation to come to light.

Efficiency: The ADMC Program articulates specific timelines for the results management and adjudication processes, and parties can request an expedited hearing to resolve the eligibility of a Covered Person or Covered Horse prior to an upcoming race. Hearings of Anti-Doping Rule Violations will be held within 60 days of being requested, absent exceptional circumstances. Controlled Medication Rule Violations will generally be adjudicated in a few months. In summary, cases will not drag on for years.

Consistency and Fairness: In addition to samples being tested to the same levels and standards regardless of which laboratory performs the analysis, all alleged violations will be subject to the same penalties regardless of jurisdiction. Cases will be adjudicated by members of an independent Arbitral Body (Anti-Doping Rule Violations) or the Internal Adjudication Panel (Controlled Medication Rule Violations). For all cases, adjudicators will be selected so as to be free from conflict of interest, thus addressing any integrity concerns in the prosecution of cases.

So, you've won the Kentucky Derby. What comes next?

For Ramiro Restrepo, co-owner of 2023 Derby winner Mage, what came next was an urgent search for a phone charger, followed by an outpouring of love and congratulations unlike anything he'd ever seen.

Restrepo, who co-owns Mage with OGMA Investments, Sterling Racing, and CMNWLTH, is a fifth-generation member of the horse racing industry, tracing back to his great-great grandfather, who owned racehorses in Colombia in the 1800s.

He is currently the South Florida field representative for auction company Fasig-Tipton, after cutting his professional teeth in the Miami nightlife hospitality scene, and later working in marketing with various beverage companies.

On this week's episode of The Friday Show, Restrepo joins publisher Ray Paulick and bloodstock editor Joe Nevills to discuss the moments during and after Mage's Derby victory, what he saw in the colt at last year's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, and how the partnership was put together to send Mage to the track.

Coolmore and Westerberg's 575,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 yearling and 'TDN Rising Star' Point Lonsdale (Ire) (Australia {GB}–Sweepstake {Ire}, by Acclamation {GB}) made a winning seasonal return in last month's G3 Alleged S. at the Curragh, having been on the shelf for almost a year after running seventh in last term's G1 2000 Guineas, and added to his tallies in 2021's G3 Tyros S. and G2 Futurity S. with a battling effort in Friday's G2 IRE-Incentive It Pays To Buy Irish Huxley S at Chester.

Positioned in second passing the judge first time, the well-backed 5-6 favourite came under increased pressure from halfway and stayed on in resolute fashion once gaining an edge into the straight to hold the late rattle of Mujtaba (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) by a neck, providing Ryan Moore with a record eighth renewal of the extended 10-furlong contest.

“He was a good 2-year-old who won a Listed race, a Group 3 and a Group 2, but he wasn't around for most of last year,” commented Moore. “It wasn't very pretty, but he's a real galloper and he probably hasn't been round a tight track like this before. He's only really been to the Curragh, Leopardstown and Ascot and he was just a bit unsure what to do with himself. Today's race was well up to standard and the track didn't suit him, but he has a great attitude, to be fair to him, and plenty of ability. It was a very good performance.”
