California Stallion Touched By Autism Relocated To Easterbrook Ranch

Stakes-winning California stallion Touched by Autism has been relocated to Easterbrook Ranch in San Miguel, Calif., for the remainder of the 2023 breeding season, owner Johnny Toboada announced.

Touched by Autism, a graduate of the Northern California Yearling Sale, is a 10-year-old son of Sierra Sunset who won the 2018 Oakland Stakes at Golden Gate Fields, one of his eight career wins. He also finished third in the Grade 3 All American Stakes at Golden Gate.

Touched by Autism previously stood at Whitehouse Equine in Stockton, Calif. His first foals arrived this year.

Bred in California by George Schmitt and Mary Clare Schmitt, Touched by Autism is out of the winning Beau Genius mare Beau's Gem, who is the dam of six winners from seven foals to race. His extended family includes stakes winners Charming Scene and Miss Hester.

TDN Rising Star Algolia Underlines Her Class

Favoured at 9-10 for Tuesday's informative Prix Kizil Kourgan at Saint-Cloud, the Wertheimers' TDN Rising Star Algolia (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) read the script perfectly to double her career tally and add another string to Andre Fabre's Classic bow. Despite being only a conditions event, the mile contest featured another TDN Rising Star in Ecurie des Monceaux's Snowpark (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}), the half-sister to the Arc and Prix du Jockey Club-winning luminary Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) and the champion Sistercharlie (Ire) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) from the Jean-Claude Rouget stable, and all eyes were on how they would shape up with Algolia with recent race experience having won by five lengths on Chantilly's Polytrack three weeks previously.

Settled in fourth early by Maxime Guyon with Snowpark just ahead, the homebred daughter of the G1 Grande Premio Diana heroine and GI Flower Bowl S.-placed Viva Rafaela (Brz) (Know Heights {Ire}) moved ominously into contention two out and soon had total control. At the line, the chestnut was two lengths ahead of the impressive course winner Prija (Fr) (Shalaa {Ire}), with another 1 1/4 lengths back to Snowpark in third. Algolia, who holds an entry in the G1 Prix de Diane, is a granddaughter of the G1 Grande Premio Marciano de Aguiar Moreira heroine Linda Rafaela (Brz) (Bin Ajwaad {Ire}) and a half-sister to last year's Listed Prix Charles Laffitte scorer Babala (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) also related to the GII Edgewood S. winner New Year's Eve (Kitten's Joy).

Finger Lakes Adds Claiming Distance Series

Finger  Lakes has unveiled a claiming distance series to the line-up for its 2023 season. The series, named after North Warning, the current track record holder at 1 5/8 miles, kicks off June 19 and features three legs and a final, with distance increasing with each leg.

“We're very exciting about the upcoming racing season and the North Warning series,” Racing Secretary Jerry Richards said. “Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack has a long-time history of distance racing and I'm very happy to bring back some semblance from the past.”

The first leg of the series, to be run at one mile and 70 yards, carries a purse of $12,600 added per division, and will be run as a $5,000 claimer. The claiming price increases to $6,250 for leg two and the purse amount moves to $15,000 added. Leg two, scheduled for July 31, is to be run at 1 1/8 miles. The claiming price increases again to $8,000 for leg three and will be run Sept. 11 at the Classic distance of 1 1/4 miles. The purse will grow to $20,000 for that event.

The series final is set for Oct. 23 at one mile and five and a half furlongs and will be run under starter ($8,000 or less) conditions. The purse in the finals is guaranteed at $25,000.

There is a one-time $250 nomination fee, which is due by June 7. All nomination fees will be added to the purse for legs one and two. Supplemental fees will be accepted between June 8 through July 19 and will be added to leg 3. The cost to supplement to the series is $1,000.

Horses earn their way into the final by earning points throughout the preliminary legs with four points for a win, three points for a second, two points for a third and one point for fourth. The top 12-point earners from the preliminary legs make the finals. In the event of a claim, the points follow the horse.

Finger Lakes' 90-day season kicks off Apr. 24 and runs through Nov. 22. First post is 1:15 p.m.
