1/ST Internships for Ed Brown Fellow and Scholar

The second round of 1/ST interns placed through the Ed Brown Scholars-Fellows program will be Zaharia Selman and Shaska Davis. The two will spend the next 10 weeks at Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park, and Pimlico Race Course.

Ed Brown Fellow Selman graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia last year with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.

Ed Brown Scholar Davis will graduate this summer from Kentucky State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications.

“We are very excited to embark upon year two of our groundbreaking partnership with 1/ST and to facilitate this tremendous opportunity for Zaharia and Shaska, as they undoubtedly gain professional experience that will place them on the pathway to successful careers in the Thoroughbred industry,” said Ed Brown Society Chairman Greg Harbut.

The Ed Brown Society, founded in 2020, celebrates the rich history of African-Americans in the Thoroughbred industry and creates opportunities for young people of color that will qualify them for professional careers in the industry. 1/ST became the first member of the Ed Brown Partnership in January 2022.

THE ARCHANGEL (Medaglia d'Oro), a half-sister to Derby hero I'll Have Another (Flower Alley) and MGSW Golden Award (Medaglia d'Oro), is out of mare Arch's Girl Edith (Arch) who also produced Gloria S (Tapit), the dam of Race 1's Gloria's Princess. ULTIMATE GAMBLE (Medaglia d'Oro) flashed speed on debut as a juvenile at Del Mar Aug. 13, but ended up seventh in a vain attempt to catch MGISW Cave Rock (Arrogate) and MGSW Practical Move (Practical Joke) who will be seen next week in the GI Santa Anita Derby. Out of Eltimaas (Ghostzapper), the $1.75million '22 OBSAPR purchase by Red Baron's Barn or Rancho Temescal LLC. was back in-training after a break for Mark Glatt in the new year. This time around he will get the services of Frankie Dettori. ROUGE ATHENA (f, 3, Tapiture–Inflamed, by Unusual Heat) is a half-sister to 2019 GI Hollywood Derby hero Mo Forza (Uncle Mo) and was her supplemented dam was purchased by Shadai Farm for $525,000 with this foal in utero about a month later at the 2020 Keeneland January Sale. Inflamed, a full-sister to GSW Burns, foaled this filly May 1, 2020, was bred to Uncle Mo on a late cover and was exported to Japan. She is also the dam of a 2-year-old colt by the star Coolmore stallion. B-Teruya Yoshida (KY)

Clifton, Penn Family Dispersal Highlights ThoroughbredAuctions.Com Spring Mixed Sale

ThoroughbredAuctions.com announces the dispersal of a Texas breeding operation in conjunction with the Spring Mixed Sale for Thoroughbreds. Bidding closes on Tuesday, April 5.

The online only auction features the Kevin Clifton-Penn Family Dispersal, and includes broodmares by such sires as Uncle Mo, Quality Road, Tale Of The Cat, Distorted Humor, The Factor, Tiznow and Pioneerof the Nile.

Also offered is the stakes-winning, graded stakes placed stallion, Sky Flight, who earned $262,684. Sky Flight has already sired a stakes horse in his first crop.

All of the Kevin Clifton-Penn Family Dispersal horses are being offered with no reserve after an opening bid of $750.

The auction also includes yearlings by Ironicus and Misrembered that are located in Kentucky, and are also being offered without reserve.

The horses will be available for inspection by appointment at their respective farms.

The catalog is available for viewing now. Prospective buyers will need to go to the auction website, and create an account. They will then need to request a bidder's number in order to bid.
