Quarter Horses Finish In Rare Triple Dead Heat At Remington Park

Although none of the winners from Race 12 on a 17-race card on Saturday at Remington Park qualified for the finals of the $533,270 Oklahoma Futurity, three American Quarter Horses will forever be remembered for their rare triple dead heat for the win.

Midnight Ryde, the No. 2 horse; Sausalito 100, the No. 3, and Favorite Movie, the No. 7, all hit the finish line at the same time in the race for one of the rarest things one will ever see in horse racing. They all won in the exact same time, their noses hitting the finish line together. A total of seven horses were barely separated in the photo finish. The No. 1 horse, One Kool Eagle, was fourth, a nose behind the three winners. The Nos. 4, 8, and 9 also were involved in one of the closest finishes in track history. The winning time for all three horses was :15.764 at 300 yards on the fast track, while the fourth-place finisher ran it in 15.772.

According to research, a triple dead heat also happened at an Oklahoma racetrack on March 8, 1998 when horses hit the wire together in an 870-yard race at the now-defunct Blue Ribbon Downs track in Sallisaw. In the $7,650 Iron Horse Handicap, there was no separation at the end of the race between Button My Zevis, Legacys Heartbeat, and Lightening Bo.

It also happened in Quarter Horse racing for second-place at Los Alamitos in California on June 6, 2022, in the fifth race when Great Nooz won by a nose and was just that in front of the next three horses – Zoe Diamond, Burning Dream and El Katie Cartel.

The most recent triple dead-heat for win in horse racing appears to be on Jan. 7, 2018 in a harness race at Hawthorne in Chicago when Picky Valor, Keep the Cash and Skyway Jaylo all hit the wire together.

This is how rare it is for three horses to hit the wire together in North American horse racing: When a triple dead heat between Thoroughbreds happened at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana on April 11, 2014, officials there said it was the sixth three-way tie for the win at a U.S. track since 1990.

In track's fifth race, a six-furlong event for $15,000 maiden claimers, all Louisiana-breds, 5-1 All in the Art ($4.60), 25-1 Chessie Slew ($15), and 8-1 Memories of Trina ($6.60) finished on even terms, covering the distance in 1:13.59. The trio finished one length in front of 5-2 favorite Lady Bristineau.

Winners of the Yonkers Trot

The Yonkers Trot is the third race of the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for trotters. What makes harness racing different from other forms of horseracing is that the horses race at a different gate. Trotters will run the entire race at a trot. This is a gate in which a front foot and the opposite back foot will hit the ground at the same time. For example, the right front foot and left back foot will hit the ground at the same time and the left front foot and right back foot will hit the ground at the same time. Most other forms of horseracing, like Thoroughbred racing, are performed at a gallop. Another difference that makes harness racing different is that the horses pull carts called sulkies, and they have a driver sitting in the sulkies instead of a jockey on their backs.

The history of the Yonkers Trot began in 1955 when the race was first held at Yonkers Raceway in Yonkers New York. Even though the race has always been held at Yonkers Raceway, the race has been known be a different name. When the race was first created, it was known as the Yonkers Futurity. The race has also been run at two different lengths. From the inception of the race in 1955 until 1963, the race was a mile and one sixteenth. In 1963, the race was shortened to its distance of exactly one mile in length. The Yonkers Trot has always been held at Yonkers Raceway, except for the years of 2004 and 2005 when the races were held at Freehold Raceway and Hawthorne Racecourse while Yonkers Raceway was undergoing renovations. The first year that the race returned to Yonkers was one that will never be forgotten. This is because the great trotter Glidemaster won the Yonkers Trot on his way to becoming one of the few trotters to ever will all three races of the Trotting Triple Crown.

In the long history of the Yonkers Trot, there have only been eight Standardbreds to win the Triple Crown of Harness Racing for trotters. The eight horses include the 1955 Triple Crown winner Scott Frost, 1963 winner Speedy Scot, 1964 winner Ayres, 1968 winner Nevele Pride, 1969 winner Lindy’s Pride, 1972 winner Super Bowl, 2004 winner Windsong’s Legacy and the 2006 winner Glidemaster. Only time will tell if there will be a Triple Crown winner in 2008.

Arabian Knight Out of Derby Consideration

Arabian Knight (Uncle Mo) has been withdrawn from consideration for the GI Kentucky Derby, according to a statement tweeted by the colt's owner, Zedan Racing, Saturday night. The statement read, “Arabian Knight is no longer under consideration for the KY Derby. Trainer Tim Yakteen wasn't happy with his last work and we feel it's in Arabian Knight's best interest not to rush and allow him more time to develop. We know he's a superior talent and our plan is to point him toward a summer and fall campaign.”

Purchased for $2.3 million at last year's OBS April sale, Arabian Knight debuted with a 'TDN Rising Star'-worthy debut at Keeneland last November. He returned this year to win the Jan. 28 GIII Southwest S. by 5 1/2 lengths for trainer Bob Baffert. He was transferred to Yakteen's barn following that effort and most recently worked six furlongs in 1:13.60 (3/4) at Santa Anita Mar. 9.
