Chase The Chaos Posts First Stakes Win In El Camino Real Derby, Earns Preakness Berth

Bill Dory and Adam Ference's Chase the Chaos, trained by Ed Moger Jr., broke through for his first stakes win Saturday when unleashing a determined late rally to capture the $100,000 El Camino Real Derby at Gold Gate Fields.

Ridden by Armando Ayuso, Chase the Chaos won by 1½ lengths from 9-5 favorite Gilmore, who was guided by Jose Valdivia Jr.

An Astern gelding, Chase the Chaos was winning for the third time from six career starts and came in off an allownace/optional claiming victory at Golden Gate Dec. 30, which followed back-to-back stakes-placings at the Bay Area racetrack: second in the Gold Rush Stakes and third in the Golden Nugget Stakes Nov. 12.

Chase the Chaos returned $10.40 after completing the El Camino Real Derby's 1 1/8-mile distance in 1:51.68 on the synthetic surface.

Harcyn checked in third, one length behind Gilmore in the field of eight 3-year-olds.

The El Camino Real Derby provided the winner an automatic berth to the Preakness (G1) in May at Pimlico Race Course. The race is also a Kentucky Derby (G1) qualifier, providing points on a 10-4-3-2-1 basis to the top five finishers.

Chase the Chaos's $60,000 winner's share of the El Camino Real Derby purse increased his lifetime bankroll to $123,000. He was bred in Pennsylvania by Mr. and Mrs. Dale N. Krapf from the Uncle Mo mare Live the Moment. Bill Dory picked him up as a weanling for $10,000 at the 2020 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, where Ballysax Bloodstock consigned him.

Hoosier Philly Stays Sharp Firing Third Bullet Ahead Of Rachel Alexandra

Four of the six fillies entered in the $300,000 Rachel Alexandra (G2), including unbeaten Hoosier Philly, worked Saturday morning at Fair Grounds. The 1 1/16-mile Rachel Alexandra is a qualifier for the Kentucky Oaks (G1) in May at Churchill Downs, offering 50-20-15-10-5 points to the top five finishers.

Hoosier Philly fired her third bullet in as many works since returning to Tom Amoss' barn from her Florida freshening. The Into Mischie filly breezed five furlongs in :47.40, the best of 86 runners. Hoosier Philly went in company with stablemate Super Design, a 5-year-old allowance horse.

“(Hoosier Philly) started one length behind her workmate “ said Fair Grounds clocker Frank McGoey. “They were even in 47.4, and she had a strong gallop out, going 1:00.1 and 1:14.1.”

Chop Chop went five furlongs with her stablemate, the maiden filly Comparative. They both clocked in at 1:00.80 for trainer Brad Cox (9/62). Off a narrow miss behind her stablemate The Alys Look in the Silverbulletday, Chop Chop will add blinkers for the Rachel.

Going five furlongs in 1:01.60 for trainer Brendan Walsh, Pretty Mischievous was kept company by her stablemate, the allowance-level gelding Crump. Her time was 27th best of 62.

Being kept company by barn mate Minnesota Moon, the Chris Block trainee Knockyoursocksoff traveled four furlongs in :49.40 (37/86) ahead of Saturday's Rachel Alexandra.

B G Warrior Strikes At 41-1 Odds In Turfway Park’s Valdale

Keith Grass' 3-year-old filly B G Warrior held off a determined challenge from heavy favorite Murky to pull a shocking 41-1 upset victory in Saturday's $125,000 Valdale Stakes at Turfway Park.

Trained by Ron Kahles and ridden to victory by David Haldar, B G Warrior provided her connections with redemption in the Valdale after she crossed the wire first on New Year's Eve in the Turfway's Gowell Stakes but was disqualified and placed second due to stretch interference. Saturday's win marked her first in a stakes.

B G Warrior was hustled to the lead and was pressured early on her outside by Irish-bred Strokes. In the early stages of the race, 4-5 favorite Murky sat third, just off the dueling leaders, who recorded a swift quarter-mile fraction of :22.30 and half-mile time of :45.08. At the top of the stretch as Strokes began to retreat, jockey Gerardo Corrales began to ask Murky for her best run while Haldar cut the corner on the fleet-footed B G Warrior, who continued to battle at the rail. At the eighth-pole, B G Warrior began to draw clear and recorded a gritty three-quarters of a length win.

B G Warrior completed 6½ furlongs in 1:17.65 over the synthetic Tapeta surface.

Bettors were rewarded with B G Warrior, who returned $85.76 for the win.

Murky finished one length in front of third-place finisher Tammy Tap Tap Tap.

B G Warrior is a daughter of Run Away and Hide out of the Any Given Saturday mare Biogio's Gift. She was bred in Kentucky by the Lou Dunn Diekemper Trust.

Jill Jitterbug finished fourth followed by Always At Ease, T Max, Moon Magic Chrissy, Liliesformillie, and Strokes.

B G Warrior improved her overall record to 2-4-0 from 10 starts and earned $74,616 to boost her career earnings to $138,531.
