In the barn of Pletcher, who has had a notably great year with the ownership group, the colt is out of Patou (Ghostzapper), herself a half-sister to GSW Moulin de Mougin (Curlin)–the dam of GSP Spicer (Quality Road); GISP Vionnet (Street Sense)–dam of MG1SW Roaring Lion (Kitten's Joy); GSP Bronson (Medaglia d'Oro); MSW Alexis Tangier (Tiznow); and is a full-sister to GSW Schiaparelli (Ghostzapper). The second dam Cambiocorsa (Avenue of Flags) is the full-sister to Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (still listed in 2009) hero California Flag. Continuar Wins Cattleya Stakes At Tokyo To Kick Off Japan Road To Kentucky Derby

Lion Race Horse Co. Ltd.'s Continuar was able to hold off the late charge of Mirror of Mind to win the $220,325 Cattleya Stakes early Saturday morning at Tokyo Racecourse.

Trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden by Damian Lane, Continuar completed the about one-mile Cattleya in 1:36.60. For his victory, the colt by 2016 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) victor Drefong was awarded 10 points on the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Mirror of Mind, a son of U.S. Grade 1 winner Mind Your Biscuits (elevated to second behind Drefong in the Breeders' Cup Sprint),  finished a half-length back in second and was awarded 4 points while Jasariv (3 points), Plavi  (2 points), and Francorchamps (1 point) completed the top five running order.

“I think I want to take him to Saudi, then Dubai, and then maybe Kentucky,” Yahagi said about future plans for Continuar.

The next stop on the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby is the Zen-Nippon Nisai Yushun held on Dec. 14 at Kawasaki.

Good Magic’s Bat Flip Walks It Off in Central Park

Bat Flip (Good Magic) was sent off at odds of 23-5 to build upon a wire-to-wire maiden victory going two turns over the Aqueduct turf course Oct. 23, but showed a bit of a new dimension when forced to stalk the pace in Saturday's Central Park S. at the Big A. The $350,000 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga grad proved equal to the task in becoming a fifth stakes winner and first on the grass for his freshman sire (by Curlin).

Looking intent on making the running yet again from his low draw, Bat Flip tried to squeeze through a tight spot inside of the stretching-out Dr. Settle's Dream (Oscar Performance) into the first turn, but was forced to take back and chase from that one's outside when it became clear it was lead or bust for Dr. Settle's Dream. Content and nicely relaxed off the leader's flank beneath Jose Ortiz, Bat Flip poured in the pressure to take over at the head of the stretch and kept on well as a slightly troubled Dandy Handyman (Outwork) and favored General Jim (Into Mischief) rounded out the minors.

Fifth to future GISW Blazing Sevens (Good Magic) on debut sprinting over the Saratoga main track July 24, Bat Flip was well-beaten behind a 'TDN Rising Star' effort from Echo Again (Gun Runner) when next seen Aug. 20. Bat Flip was runner-up behind next-out GIII Futurity S. hero and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint third Nagirroc (Lea) in a local turf sprint maiden Sept. 24 before getting the job done last time.

The winner is one of two winners from his dam, a half-sister to GSW & MGISP turfer Money Multiplier (Lookin At Lucky) and GSW Intense Holiday (Harlan's Holiday). Krazy Kathy is also responsible for Bat Flip's yearling full-brother Bayou magic, a weanling full-sister and is due to Nyquist for 2023. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by TVG.

T21 Ball And Auction Series Launched

The T21 Ball & Auction Series, in aid of The Down Syndrome Centre, was launched at the Punchestown Winter Festival on Sunday, Nov. 20. Colbinstown Stud owners John and Sophie Barrett whose son Seve was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, in partnership with Kerry Ryan of Kerry Ryan Event Management, are aiming to raise money for The Down Syndrome Centre through the associated online auction, featuring items donated from members both within and outside the bloodstock industry. It is now live until midnight on Dec. 10 and can be accessed here. The inaugural T21 Ball and live auction will take place at the Alex Hotel in Dublin on the evening of Dec. 10, as well.

“We wanted to direct our focus to The Down Syndrome Centre which is invaluable to families of children and children with Down Syndrome, providing services where it is so difficult to access them elsewhere, and a place for support, advice and friendship,” the three said in a joint statement. “The birth of Seve has opened up a whole new a world for us and we wanted to do our small bit to help this wonderful charity.”
