Group Winners Lastotchka and Speirling Beag Entered In Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale

New group winners Lastotchka (Fr) (Myboycharlie {Ire}–Muthla {Fr}, by Muhtathir {GB}) and Speirling Beag (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}–Starscape {Ire}, by Cape Cross {Ire}) have been added to the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale catalogue. They are set to sell during the opening session in Deauville on Dec. 3.

Saturday's G3 Prix Belle de Nuit heroine Lastotchka races for Ecurie Noel Forgeard, P Bonnier et. al. and Jean-Marie Beguigne and was already a winner of the Listed Prix de Thiberville earlier this year. Bred by Ecurie Touchstone, she was second to 'TDN Rising Star' Raclette (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G2 Prix de Malleret in July, two starts prior to her Belle de Nuit score. The April foal is from the same family as G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Linda's Lad (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Rail Link (GB) (Dansili {GB}).

Ennistown Stud's homebred Speirling Beag graduated at Gowan in September and was third in the G3 Staffordstown Stud S. at the Curragh on Oct. 8. She was game in Leopardtown's G3 Eyrefield S. on Saturday, winning by a short head over Hiawatha (Ire) (Camelot {GB}). Her second dam is a full-sister dual Group 2 winner Land Of Dreams (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}), herself the dam of crack sprinter, quintuple Group 1 winner and Group 1 sire Dream Ahead (Diktat {GB}).

Slated for Dec. 3-6, the sale's catalogue will be published on Oct. 31.

‘He Just Keeps Getting Better And Better’: That’s Something Blitzes Oklahoma Classics Cup In Gate-To-Wire Romp

Trainer Lynn Chleborad draped herself in the flowered blanket of the $153,000 Oklahoma Classics Cup on Friday night and yelled out her signature happy shout, “Yip! Yip!” as she celebrated her winner, That's Something, in the richest race of the Oklahoma Classics for state-breds at Remington Park.

Her 5-year-old Read the Footnotes gelding out of the Concern mare Cherokee Princess won his third race in a row on the dirt to capture the Cup for Chleborad, her first win in the main event of the Classics.

Twenty-three years ago, Chleborad won another Classics race, the 1999 Oklahoma Classics Juvenile with Imaginary Friend.

Chleborad's win Friday night was especially noteworthy.

“My first Cup win as an owner, trainer, AND breeder,” she exclaimed in the winner's circle.

It also was a taste of revenge for That's Something, who just lost by a neck to Number One Dude on the turf, going 7 1/2 furlongs in the $70,000 Red Earth Stakes on Sept. 23 at Remington.

When they returned to the dirt and stretched out in the Oklahoma Classics Cup to 1 1/16 miles, That's Something got back on track and kept his main-track win streak intact. He finished 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Number One Dude, who was another head in front of third-place finisher Dont Tell Noobody, the winner of this race in 2020.

That's Something was sent off as the 5-2 second favorite and paid $7.80 to winNumber One Dude, who had won 8-of-14 starts lifetime, was the wagering favorite at 4-5 odds.

Dont Tell Noobody came flying at 16-1.

Jockey Luis Quinonez moved into second place on the all-time Classics win list, moving past Don Pettinger. Both riders are in the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

That's Something gave Quinonez his first Cup win, giving him 22 Classics wins to Pettinger's 21. Cliff Berry, the all-time winningest rider in Remington Park history, finished his career with 26 Classics wins.

“I didn't know he was going to go to the lead and I said to him, 'OK, if that's where you want to be,'” said Quinonez. “When I looked at the others turning for home, I said, 'You're in trouble because I have a lot more horse (laughs).' Lynn told me he was ready and she was right.”

Chleborad is enjoying the current run with That's Something as she had to be patient in waiting on his success after a difficult 2021 with the gelding.

“Last year he pulled a muscle on a back leg and barely got out of the barn,” Chleborad said. “We didn't know what was wrong with him. But he got better and he just keeps getting better and better. I love this horse. He's friendly. He loves Luis. He's just a baby.”

That's Something made every pole a winning one, setting fractions of :24.64 for the first quarter mile, :49.11 for the half mile, 1:13.60 for three-quarters of a mile and 1:38.51 for the mile before crossing the finish in 1:44.82 over the fast track.

That's Something earned $91,800 for the victory and improved to 19 starts, five wins and five seconds and $210,712 in earnings.

Other winners of Oklahoma Classics stakes include Terry J. Westemeir's homebred Doudoudouwanadance (by Magna Graduate), who took the $100,000 Lassie by seven lengths; Norman Stables LLC's Ghost Hero (Shaman Ghost) ($3.30), who captured the $100,000 Juvenile by 1 3/4 lengths ($8.20); Michael Schmidt's Plenty of Vision (Pollard's Vision), the $130,000 Distaff Turf ($14.80); Robert H. Zoellner's homebred She's All Wolfe (Magna Graduate), the $145,000 Distaff ($6.60); Bryan Hawk's Ragan's Jet (Mister Lucky), the $130,000 Distaff Sprint ($4); Juan Carlos Gallegos's Fly to the Bank, the $130,000 Sprint ($19.20); and Asmussenequine.com and Martin Riley's Tap the Dot (Moro Tap), the $130,000 Turf Classic ($7.40).

The Gambler’s Tavern

Gambling has been around since the dawn of mankind and it will probably outlive any and all of its detractors whether politically or morally. It does not matter if you are for or against gambling, we can all say that it was part of our history and it will be part of our future. Today’s advanced technology has allowed gambling to reach an even wider audience that transcends nationality and race. Online gambling isn’t new and its popularity is only growing stronger with each new recruit that it welcomes to its fold.

Maybe you are into gambling because of its recreational value or for it’s more serious and destructive characteristic, money. Most are into these games because of the somewhat controlled risk involved. Combined with the rush that people feel, the experience will be bringing an emotional high tantamount of those derived from drugs. If you are new to online gambling, by all means, tread carefully.

Taking care not to lose all your money online is not enough. There’s always a chance that your urge to say “just one more” will get the better of you. It’s not far fetched to say that this would lead to pathologic gambling, a condition we’re only all too familiar with, thanks to movies about gambling. Therefore, creating a system in the way you gamble would most certainly help. This is not just for seasoned gamblers since your goal, other than to win some money, is not to lose your existing stash needlessly.

Online gambling portals helps in more areas about gambling than just how to play the various games available. This tavern of sorts will have basic information like legalities on gambling and the like. Nothing beats having an expert guide to almost anything about gambling. Tips about online casinos, their reputation, how fast they give payouts and a lot more are often found in these portals thereby essentially directing you to good and legal online casinos. Other tips that involve gambling like playing smartly and more effectively than just unwittingly throwing your money around.

Basically, these portals will help tip the scales of lady luck into your favor and believe me, you’ll need all the help you can get. Let us not forget that same as in physical casinos, the games are designed and made to be in favor of the casinos. The chance for you to win is certainly there, only, it’s a slim chance.

To be sure, charlatans and dishonest casinos exist out there. Some even go as far as to blatantly point unsuspecting gamblers to play and ultimately lose to their sites. Fortunately, the use of portals is on the rise thereby curbing operations of illegitimate casinos. The relationship between the portals and the shady sites would have to do with the gambling portal’s relevant and up to date information about known deceitful sites. Do not be a victim. Visit the portals and take the time to look at updates other relevant news. If you are a novice, spend more time reading F.A.Q’s and special segments for beginners that are available in some portals.

Mastercraftsman’s Speirling Beag Too Strong In The Eyrefield

There were only six runners in Leopardstown's nine-furlong G3 Eyrefield S. on Saturday, but more than a minor share of drama as the Ennistown Stud homebred Speirling Beag (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}–Starscape {Ire}, by Cape Cross {Ire}) prevailed in a renewal marked by an early-straight incident.

Held up in rear by Rory Cleary after a tardy start, the Jim Bolger-trained chestnut who had been third a fortnight earlier in The Curragh's G3 Staffordstown Stud S. over a mile had to swing four-wide into the home turn as the Ballydoyle trio got in each other's way on the inner.

It was the 7-4 favourite Hiawatha (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) who was the chief sufferer in the scrimmaging caused by the hanging Gulf Of Mexico (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), but after he had muscled his way into the clear Speirling Beag had got first run approaching the furlong pole. Carried right late by that rival as they drew away on the run to the line, the 25-1 shot was headed by the imposing Ballydoyle colt but showed grit and determination to get back up in the dying stride and score by a short head.

“I had a very game filly underneath me,” the winning jockey said. “It got tight on the inside and it ended up meaning I got there too soon. If I'd got beaten I would have been kicking myself. She's a lovely, easy filly to anything with and showed her honesty there today.”

Pedigree Notes

Speirling Beag, who had broken her maiden at the fourth attempt when beating the Staffordstown Stud S. winner Lumiere Rock (Ire) (Saxon Warrior {Jpn}) over a mile at Gowran Park Sept. 17, is the second foal out of the unraced Starscape who is kin to two black-type performers including the G3 Supreme S. and G3  Acomb S.-placed Zumbi (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}). She is a granddaughter of the G3 Molecomb S. winner Sahara Star (GB) (Green Desert), who produced the G2 Flying Childers S. winner Land Of Dreams (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}) who is in turn the dam of the five-times Group 1-winning sire Dream Ahead (Diktat {GB}). She is also the second dam of the G1 Cheveley Park S. and G1 Flying Five heroine Fairyland (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas third Now Or Never (Ire) (Bushranger {Ire}). Starscape's yearling colt by one of Bolger's brightest stars in Teofilo (Ire) was a €66,000 purchase by Boherguy Stud at last year's Goffs November Foal Sale.
