Jockey Mychel Sanchez notched his 1,000th career victory aboard Z W P Stable and Non Stop Stable's Malibu Beauty in the $100,000 George Rosenberger Memorial at Delaware Park today.
The 4-year-old daughter of Buffum won by eight lengths. The Maryland-bred trained by Gary Capuano returned $3.80 as the favorite in the field of five.
Thisnameisokay finished second, ten lengths in front of B B's Busted, with Daniel Centeno, in third. Malibu Beauty cut early fractions of :48.83 for the half-mile and 1:13.40 for the three-quarter miles before completing the mile and a sixteenth in 1:44.99 over a muddy main track.
The Rosenberger Memorial was originally scheduled to be run on the grass but was transferred to the main track due the overnight rain in the region from the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
Malibu Beauty raised her record to seven wins from 22 starts. She earned $82,500 for her victory in the Rosenberger Memorial, which includes a special $22,500 Delaware Certified bonus, to bring her career earnings to $399,584.
“This milestone win could not have come at a better time in a stakes race on Owners Day at Delaware Park,” said winning rider Mychel Sanchez. “In the race, she really did it all. We went to the lead and took control. After that it was on cruise control.”
Sanchez has two career graded stake victories. In 2021, he rode Hopeful Treasure to victory in the Fall Highweight Handicap (G3) at Aqueduct and in 2018 he rode Dixie Serenade to victory in the Victory Ride Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park.
Sanchez, a native of Venezuela, recorded his first career victory in North America aboard Party Girl Appeal at Parx Racing on July 16, 2013. This year, he has a 68-66-43 record from 353 mounts that have amassed more than $2.3-million in purse earnings. Overall, his 6,407 mounts have posted 948 seconds and 894 thirds while earning more than $32.5 million in purses.
Through Oct. 1, Sanchez ranks second in the Delaware Park standings with $1,430,987 in purse earnings. He ranks second by number of wins, tied with Carol Cedeno, with 43.
He was co-leading rider at Parx Racing in 2019 and leading rider in 2020. He also was a top 10 rider at Monmouth Park, Laurel Park and Parx in 2021.
While Sanchez has ridden creditably to reach the milestone, his career as a jockey was tarnished in January when he was suspended for 60 days by the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission following the discovery he wagered on horses other than is own mounts at Parx Racing. When the suspension ended, several track would not allow him to ride. Nearly five months since beginning his suspension, he returned to the saddle June 22 at Delaware Park.

Marc Chan's TDN Rising Star Kinross (GB) (Kingman {GB}) had not always had the rub of the green throughout his career, but it all fell right in Sunday's G1 Qatar Prix de la Foret Presente par Education Above All that closed out ParisLongchamp's top-level action.
Now firmly established at the head of the seven-furlong division having won the G2 City Of York S. and G2 Park S., the Ralph Beckett-trained 5-year-old had a wide draw to overcome but Frankie Dettori was all for taking a deep breath as the principals committed in the straight. Launched to strike the front passing the furlong pole, the 17-10 favourite was comfortable as he registered a commanding two-length success from Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) as the enterprisingly-ridden Entscheiden (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) hung tough to repeat his 2021 third, a length further back.
“I always had huge faith in him and he's had a fantastic year,” Beckett said. “As a 3-year-old, he was already on the very big side and after being gelded he had a difficult time of it but has really come into his own now. He's a really special horse for the stable.”
Kinross knocked the eye out on his juvenile debut at Newmarket when earning TDN Rising Star status on this weekend three years ago, so it was deflating that only one of his next eight starts saw him make the frame when taking the Listed Hyde S. After his gelding op, he looked a revived character when winning Haydock's G3 John of Gaunt S. and Goodwood's G2 Lennox S. last summer but there were still occasions when it looked too laboured such as when he was unable to land a serious blow in fourth in this behind the class acts Space Blues (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Pearls Galore (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and the indomitable Entscheiden 12 months ago.
It may only be that the real Kinross emerged as he sauntered to success in the City of York and followed up at Doncaster and he gave Frankie all the right signs to allow him to ride with maximum confidence here despite the wide trip. A strong stayer at this trip, he was kept in his lane four off the fence and proved a straightforward conveyance as he surged by the Japanese raider.
Malavath, who was runner-up in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last term, could be set for a return according to trainer Francis-Henri Graffard. “She ran a superb race. She was supposed to head to the States to run a Grade I race, but since the beginning of the year her requirements have been two-fold; soft ground and 1400 metres so we decided to remain in France and try our luck in the Foret. We will think about going on our travels with her during the winter, but it's no easy thing as she is a genuine 1400-metre filly. Maybe she will stay 1600 on the US tracks.”
Yoshito Yahagi, trainer of Entscheiden, commented, “He had already finished third in this race last year. The field this year was not as strong and I was hoping he could win this time around, but otherwise there is not much to say. He ran well and clearly likes Europe. I hope that I can return here with him in the
future.”
Kinross, who becomes the fifth Group 1 winner for his sire, is out of the fellow Beckett-trained Listed Gillies Fillies' S. winner Ceilidh House (GB) (Selkirk) whose dam Villa Carlotta (GB) (Rainbow Quest) took the Listed Blue Wind S. and Listed Premio Giovanni Falck. Villa Carlotta, who is also the second dam of the G3 Solario S. winner and G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains runner-up First Selection (Spa) (Diktat {GB}), is a half to the GII Virginia Derby and GII Colonial Turf Cup winner and GI Hollywood Derby runner-up Battle Of Hastings (GB) (Royal Applause {GB}). Ceilidh House's unraced 2-year-old colt by Sea The Moon (Ger) is named Seahouses (GB).

A trio of runners from the barn of trainer Steve Asmussen began the Keeneland portion of their preparations for the 39th Breeders' Cup World Championships Nov. 4-5 by working easy half miles over a fast track early Sunday morning.
First was J. Kirk and Judy Robison's reigning champion male sprinter Jackie's Warrior, who covered the distance in :49.80 with exercise rider Wilson Fabian aboard. A five-time Grade 1 winner, the 4-yera-old Maclean's Music colt is considered the probable favorite for the $2 million Qatar Racing Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
In Asmussen's next set, Fabian was aboard Winchell Thoroughbreds' Runhappy Travers (G1) winner Epicenter, who completed the half mile in :51. The Not This Time colt, one of the leading contenders for champion 3-year-old male honors, is being pointed to the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1).
In the same set, Stonestreet Stables' two-time Grade 1 winner Clairiere worked a half mile in :49.80 with exercise rider Carmen Rosas aboard. One of the leading contenders for the Eclipse Award as champion older dirt female, the 4-year-old Curlin filly is being pointed to the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).
The three runners have accounted for 19 graded stakes victories – eight of them Grade 1s – in their careers for combined earnings of more than $7.6 million.
