Delays Continue In Chad Brown Domestic Violence Case; New Court Date Set For Nov. 14

After three postponements, legal counsel for top trainer Chad Brown appeared in Saratoga Springs City Court on Oct. 21 to discuss the ongoing case against him for misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing.

According to The Daily Gazette, Brown was not in attendance but will be required to attend the next court date.

Judge Francine Vero requested an update from prosecutors and defense counsel on the progress for the discovery phase of the case. Assistant district attorney Rachael Phelan said that investigation into the incident continues.

Brown entered a not guilty plea to the charge after his arrest on Aug. 17 of this year.

The next date in the case will be a motion hearing on Nov. 14.

According to local reporting of the incident from August, Brown is accused of pushing a female victim down a stairway, pinning her to the floor and choking her before pushing her out of the house. Brown said the woman broke into his residence and he was defending himself.

The charge of criminal obstruction of breathing is a Class A misdemeanor in New York.

Hill 'n' Dale's Curlin has been good to Godolphin this season, having accounted for GI Forego S. upsetter Cody's Wish, and the 'Boys in Blue' take the wraps off the stallion's daughter POBLANO Saturday afternoon. Drawn the rail and pegged at morning-line odds of 12-1 that seem overlaid, the Apr. 16 foal is out of Kinda Spicy (A.P. Indy), perfect in two starts in an abbreviated racing career who has since gone on to produce Avery Island (Street Sense), winner of the GII Nashua S. and runner-up to future MGISW Catholic Boy (More Than Ready) in the GII Remsen S. at two and in the GIII Withers S. at three, defeating Firenze Fire (Poseidon's Warrior). Poblano's second dam, Isola Piu Bella (Chi) (Rich Man's Gold), was Chile's Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old filly of 2004 and was a dual graded winner for Sumaya U S Stables once transferred to this country. Kinda Spicy is the second of just two foals from Isola Piu Bella, who passed away in 2009. Poblano appears to be working well for the debut, including a strong half-mile move in :47 4/5 (3/57) over the Keeneland main track Oct. 7 and bullet drills prior to that at The Thoroughbred Center. SOURCES AND USES (City of Light) is the first foal out of Ultimate Cause (Giant's Causeway), who was purchased by Richard Masson's Green Lantern Stables with this filly in utero for $310,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale. The 9-year-old mare is a daughter of SW & GSP Supreme (Empire Maker), whose son Silver State (Hard Spun) proved best in the 2021 GI Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan H. and now holds court at Claiborne Farm. Third dam Mon Belle (Maria's Mon) is a full-sister to GI Kentucky Derby hero Monarchos and was also responsible for the three-times stakes-placed Spark (Speightstown). Among the competition is Erna (Curlin), a $135,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $600,000 OBS April breezer who hails from the female family of Grade I-winning turf filly Magnificent Song (Unbridled's Song). De Treville Filly Highlights Part Three At Arqana

The October Yearling Sale at Arqana came to a close on Friday with respectable Part Three trade highlighted by a €42,000 filly by De Treville (GB) (lot 757) who sold from Ombreville to Antoine de Watrigant.

From the family of G3 Prix Noailles winner and G1 Grand Prix de Paris second Slalom (Fr) (Intello {Ger}) and his stakes-winning and group-placed full-brother Folamour (GB) (Intello {Ger}), the February foal also traces to G3 Prix Perth heroine and quadruple black-type producer Danzigaway (Danehill). The filly's Showcasing (GB) half-brother Empathic (Fr) had won since the catalogue was published.

The last day of the sale saw 142 yearlings go under the hammer. A total of 120 (84%) of them were sold for an average price of €10,875 and a total turnover of €1,305,000. The median was €9,000.

Arqana October's stats at the end of five days' trade stood at €26,188,000 accrued for 597 horses (83%) finding new homes. The average was €43,866 (-5%) and the median was €26,000 (-5.5%).

Following the sale, Eric Hoyeau, Chairman of Arqana and Freddy Powell, Executive Director, said, “We have adapted the format of the sale to the offer, but it is not necessarily definitive. Each year we try to be as close as possible to what we perceive from the market and the production, so that each yearling is valued as much as possible.

“Following an excellent 2021 edition where the turnover had increased by 45%, the sale has gone well. A total of 69 horses were sold for €100,000 or more, compared to 62 in 2021 and 38 in 2020. Demand also remained strong and constant throughout the five days. We can only be satisfied with these results. Maintaining this would not have been possible without the work of all our vendors, whom we must thank, as well as our teams in the offices and in the yards. Let's remember that all the yearlings presented during the five days are eligible for the Arqana Series, which will start next year.”

With 26 colts and fillies sold for a total of €2,047,000, Haras d'Etreham finished at the head of the vendors' table. Second place went to Écurie des Monceaux, vendors of 17 lots for a total of €2,020,000. La Motteraye consignment completed the podium with 34 yearlings sold for €1,928,500.

Stroud Coleman Bloodstock took the top spot on the buyers' list with 10 yearlings purchased for a total of €1,482,000. Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency) took second place with 11 yearlings bought for €901,000. Finally, Ghislain Bozo (Meridian International) took third place with 11 yearlings bought for €854,000.
