Group 1 Winner Alcohol Free To Be Offered At Tattersalls December Mares Sale
The outstanding four time Group 1 winning race filly Alcohol Free is to be offered at the forthcoming Tattersalls December Mares Sale which takes place Nov. 28 to Dec. 1. She will be offered for sale in the new Sceptre Session on Tuesday, Nov. 29 and promises to be amongst the highlights of the 2022 global bloodstock sales calendar.
Owned by Jeff Smith, Alcohol Free is the outstanding filly of her generation having won four Group 1 contests to date; the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes as a 2-year-old, the G1 Sussex Stakes and G1 Coronation Stakes as a three year old and the recent G1 July Cup at the age of four.
From the third crop of top sire No Nay Never, the Andrew Balding trained Alcohol Free ended her 2-year-old year as the equal highest rated U.K. trained 2-year-old filly having won the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes on only her third start. Following two further spectacular Group 1 wins in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, where she beat 2,000 Guineas winner Poetic Flare, Alcohol Free was officially the best British trained 3-year-old filly of 2021 with a rating of 119. Alcohol Free's 4-year-old career to date has seen her maintain her rating of 119 after her memorable win over six furlongs in the G1 July Cup, followed by a third place finish in the G1 Sussex Stakes behind the world's best racehorse Baaeed.
After Alcohol Free's win in last year's G1 Sussex Stakes owner Jeff Smith declared;
“This filly is something else, the way she has won that is simply incredible……She's a champion, there's absolutely no question in my mind.”
Trainer Andrew Balding commented;
“Alcohol Free is a superstar. She is the only filly I have trained to win four Group 1s and she is the only horse I have trained to win Group 1s at two, three and four, which is pretty special – and we are hoping there are more to come.”
Balding added;
“She is not only an outstanding race filly, she is also a gorgeous individual; an imposing, scopey filly who has improved both physically and mentally with age. She acts on all different types of ground and will one day let down into a fine broodmare.”
Out of the winning Hard Spun mare Plying, Alcohol Free is the highest rated filly by her sire No Nay Never who is currently the leading sire of European 2-year-olds. One of four winners out of Plying, including Listed Prix Le Fabuleux winner Alexander James, Alcohol Free's grandam Nasaieb, herself a stakes producing dam of nine winners, was placed in the Listed National Stakes at Sandown and is a half sister to the Group 3 winning 2-year-old Raise a Grand.
Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;
“It is an honor to be asked to offer Alcohol Free for sale at the Tattersalls December Sale on behalf of Jeff Smith. Jeff has been the most wonderful supporter of British racing and breeding for so many years and Alcohol Free is yet another outstanding performer to carry his famous colors following in the illustrious footsteps of some great champions including Arabian Queen, Chief Singer, Lochsont, and Persian Punch.
