Profitable’s Wed Strikes For Prix du Calvados Triumph

Mohammed Al Shahi's 2-year-old filly Wed (Fr) (Profitable {Ire}–Eaton Street {GB}, by Discreet Cat) snagged two of three prior outings and continued on an upward trajectory with a decisive success in Saturday's G2 Prix du Calvados at Deauville. The Maurizio Guarnieri trainee debuted with a June 17 win at La Teste de Buch before running second over the same seven-furlong strip back there the following month and lined up for her first black-type start returning off an impressive 4 1/2-length tally at Dax last week. The 13-2 chance was handily placed in sixth after the opening exchanges of this third straight attempt at the seven-furlong distance. Taking closer order once past halfway, she was ridden to launch her challenge passing the quarter-mile marker and extended clear under continued urging inside the final furlong to hit the line with a two-length advantage from Sparkling Beauty (Fr) (Oasis Dream {GB}).

No Nay Never’s Aesop’s Fables Wins The Futurity

Having already won both maidens on The Curragh's Saturday card, Ryan Moore again picked right in the G2 Galileo Irish EBF Futurity S. as he steered Ballydoyle's imposing TDN Rising Star Aesop's Fables (Ire) (No Nay Never) to an impressive success in the seven-furlong juvenile staging post. Not seen since winning on debut over an extended five furlongs at Navan Apr. 23, the half-brother to the stable's classy sprinter Washington DC (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) had to see out this trip as the G3 Tyros S. winner Proud And Regal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and stablemate and fellow TDN Rising Star Hans Andersen (GB) (Frankel {GB}) making it a test up ahead. Adrift of the latter as he took control passing the two-furlong pole, the 3-1 shot powered past in the final 100 yards for an authoritative 2 1/4-length success, with a neck back to Proud And Regal in third.

Muhaarar’s Trevaunance Wins The Nonette

Returning to the scene of her success in the G3 Prix de Psyche Aug. 2, Moyglare Stud's Trevaunance (Ire) (Muhaarar {GB}–Liber Nauticus {Ire}, by Azamour {Ire}) showed her love of Deauville by making all in Saturday's 10-furlong G2 Prix de la Nonette. Allowed to bowl along under Tony Piccone, the Jessica Harrington-trained homebred was too strong in the straight and hit the line with two lengths to spare over Mqse De Sevigne (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), who had been a short neck behind her when filling the same position in the Psyche. There was another 3/4 of a length back to Agave (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in third.

Kingman’s Kinross Prevails In The City of York

Marc Chan's 5-year-old gelding Kinross (GB) (Kingman {GB}–Ceilidh House {GB}, by Selkirk) was a neck shy of Sandrine (GB) (Bobby's Kitten) in last month's G2 Lennox S. at Goodwood and exacted revenge on that rival with a first since annexing last year's renewal of that contest in Saturday's £400,000 G2 Sky Bet City of York S. on the Knavesmire. Positioned fourth through halfway, the 5-1 chance made smooth headway into contention in the straight and quickened smartly underneath the stands' side rail inside the final furlong to prevail by 1 1/4 lengths from Pogo (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}). Sandrine kept on well to finish 1 1/2 lengths further adrift in third.
