Darragh O’Loughlin Appointed New IHRB CEO

Darragh O'Loughlin has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB). O'Loughlin will begin serving in his new role on June 29. Previously, O'Loughlin was the Secretary General of the Irish Pharmacy Union from 2013 until April of this year. He also served as a Council Member of the PSI (The Pharmacy Regulator) for six years and was a board member of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).

Martin O'Donnell, Chairman of the IHRB, said, “Darragh brings an exceptional combination of regulatory expertise and long experience in sectoral development and advocacy as well as stakeholder engagement at the highest level in Ireland and the EU.

“Darragh combines proven strategic, organisational and people leadership with impressive regulatory credentials and extensive stakeholder engagement experience.  We look forward to him leading the IHRB and our top-class committed team as we enter our next strategic planning phase. This will guide the organisation's priorities in addressing the evolving needs of Irish horse racing and ensuring the continued positive reputation of the sport and ongoing confidence for all stakeholders.”

O'Loughlin, a pharmacist by trade, added, “I am honoured to have been appointed to this vital role for horse racing and look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead. Ireland is rightly at the forefront of global horse racing and has an enviable reputation thanks to the great work of all stakeholders, including the excellent team at the IHRB, who have been acknowledged as best in class at what they do. BSA Cape Mare Catalogue Announced

The catalogue for the 2022 Cape Mare And Weanling Sale is now online. Set for Kenilworth Racecourse at 1 p.m. on May 19, 66 lots are slated to go through the ring. This year's Cape Mare sale includes broodmares in foal to Buffalo Bill Cody (Ire),  Captain Of All (SAf), Danon Platina (Jpn), Erik The Red (SAf), Flower Alley, Futura (SAf), Hawwaam (SAf), Horizon (SAf), Legislate (SAf), Master Of My Fate (SAf), One World (SAf), Oratorio (Ire), Pathfork, Potala Palace (SAf), Quasillo (Ger), Querari (SAf), Rafeef (Aus), Soqrat (Aus), Talk Of The Town (SAf), The United States (Ire), Vercingetorix (SAf), What A Winter (SAf) and William Longsword (SAf). There will also be a handful of weanlings set to sell by such stallions as Erupt (Ire), Lancaster Bomber, Master Of My Fate, New Predator (Aus), One World, Potala Palace and William Longsword.

T.I.P. Non-Competition Award Applications Due June 30

Applications for The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.)'s annual non-competition awards are available and due June 30.

The T.I.P. Thoroughbred of the Year Award honors a Thoroughbred that has excelled in a non-competitive career, such as equine-assisted therapy or police work. The award includes a $5,000 grant to the non-profit organization associated with the horse, while the T.I.P. Young Rider of the Year Award recognizes juvenile riders who use a Thoroughbred in 4-H, Pony Club, or other activities with a total award of $5,000 that can be applied to the college of their choice or to their participation in an event that furthers their involvement with horses.
