Maryland’s Beyond The Wire Retires 500th Thoroughbred In 2022

In mid-March upon the retirement of the 5-year-old gelding Bundi Bundi by trainer Pedro Nazario, Beyond The Wire reached the 500-mark in horses that have moved through the program.

Beyond The Wire, Maryland's Thoroughbred aftercare program, is funded by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association; Maryland Jockey Club and its owner, 1/ST Racing; the Maryland Horse Breeders Association; owners who participate in Maryland racing; the local jockey colony; and donations from owners and trainers.

The program works hand-in-hand with various Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance-accredited farms that house equine retirees and prepare them for new owners and second careers.

“I am elated to see how the program has grown since mid-2017,” said Jessica Hammond, who administers Beyond The Wire. “Putting 500 horses through the program means that owners and trainers are prioritizing a good retirement for their horses. It also means that more than 500 horses definitely have safe and enriching post-racing lives.

“The track veterinarians, shippers and TAA-accredited facilities are an integral part of the program, and I'd like to thank them for all of their care and effort.”

Partner farms are MidAtlantic Horse Rescue, Foxie G Foundation, New Vocations, Akindale Thoroughbred Rescue, After the Races, Equine Rescue of Aiken and Life Horse.

Horses that are retired through Beyond the Wire must be in race training in Maryland. If they have run, they must have starts in Maryland. Horses that are currently laid up from racing in Maryland are also considered. The intake form, which must be completed, is available at this link: https://www.beyondthewire.org/retire-a-horse/.

Timm Becomes Partner In Grovendale Sales Consignment

Grovendale Sales announced April 4 that Chance Timm will become a partner in leading sales agency Grovendale, which has been owned and managed by James B. Keogh.

The newly formed partnership reflects a longtime friendship and business relationship that has come full circle with partnering on the sales agency.

Timm has over 12 years of experience in the commercial Thoroughbred business. He spent eight years at world-renowned Lane's End Farm as the director of stallion seasons and shares, while actively working with both the sales and bloodstock divisions. Most recently serving as executive director of Don Alberto Corp., Chance oversaw the sale and management of more than $10 million in public sales, including the highest-priced yearling in the Northern Hemisphere in 2021, a yearling colt by Into Mischief out of Paola Queen , sold for $2.6 million at Saratoga.

“I've been fortunate to work with some top organizations and quality bloodstock. I'm very thankful for the opportunities I've been given but especially by James Keogh to partner with him,” Timm said. “I have a lot of confidence and respect for James and what he has built in Grovendale Sales. We will represent owners and breeders at the major sales and I look forward to building our yearling and horses of racing age drafts while adding further quality to the breeding stock sales which James has always been so successful at.”

Keogh, a native of Ireland, has over 30 years experience in the Thoroughbred industry while based in Kentucky. James has built Grovendale sales over the past 10 years into a well-known, well-respected, and trusted consignor.

Said Keogh of the new partnership, “Bringing on Chance is an opportunity for me to grow and build the sales agency, while maintaining a focus on quality over quantity. The partnership will enable us to expand our reach both with Chance's relationships as well as a greater representation at every major sale.”

Grovendale Sales is a Thoroughbred sales consignment based in Versailles, Ky., that offers sales representation, matings, investments, and Thoroughbred management consultation.

Play Bingo Tips

Here are some bingo tips & strategies for bingo players who either play bingo online and/or at a traditional bingo hall. Some of the following tips are more appropriate to the online version than the bingo halls.

Play Bingo Tip #1
Try to avoid overcrowded bingo games, look out for the ones with a good balance of players, that way you maximize your chances of winning a good size bingo pot.

Play Bingo Tip #2
Understand that there is very little you can do to influence or predict the outcome at. It is, after all, a game of chance, and you should rather play bingo for the enjoyment, and not for the potential reward.

Play Bingo Tip #3
If you’re looking for a good sized cash bingo prize, try to play the online bingo games that sell cards priced at 25 cents. Playing online is a lot cheaper than playing in traditional bingo halls, where you hardly ever see cards for this price!. Bingodrome offers reasonable card from as little as 5c to $1.

Play Bingo Tip #4
Make friends while you play in the online bingo community and you’ll never be alone again! That’s right; they’ll stand by you and give you advice any time of day.

Play Bingo Tip #5
Look for the bingo games with the best chat specials. This way you win extra bonuses while you play and keep entertained any time of the day. A site that has great chat specials is Bingodrome, why not pay them a visit.

Play Bingo #6
Be persistent, play bingo often and your luck will eventually bring you big cash prizes!

Play Bingo #7
Look for the best deposit bonuses, you can double your playing money! A site that offers great deposit bonuses is Bingodrome, they offer 200% on first deposits.

Play Bingo #8
Be courteous to those around you. Do not yell out loud the bingo number you need. This obviously does not apply to the online version – not only are you expected to yell out 1 tg!!! 1 tg!!! when you are close to winning, but this also brings good luck! (How else will the caller know which number your little heart desires?)
