Eight Juveniles Fire Bullets at OBS Wednesday

Five juveniles shared the fastest furlong time of :9 4/5 Wednesday during the fourth session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Spring Sale breeze show and three others worked a quarter in a bullet :20 3/5.

The quartet of :9 4/5 workers were an Uncle Mo filly from Clary Bloodstock (Hip 537) (video); a Goldencents colt consigned by Eddie Woods (Hip 546) (video); a filly by Street Sense from the Lucan Bloodstock shedrow (Hip 611) (video); a Macho Uno colt consigned by Grassroots Training and Sales (Hip 674) (video); and a Mo Town Filly from Top Line Sales (Hip 687) (video). This is the first crop for Mo Town, who was represented by his first winner Wednesday at Keeneland.

The bullet breeze was an emotional one for Clary Bloodstock principal Jaylyn Clary. The young horsewoman is the daughter of trainer Mike Neathlerin, who passed away in September due to COVID-19. Clary grew up working side-by-side with her father at the track and their training center in Texas. He helped her get her new business off the ground three years ago. Additionally, she trains 15 active racehorses, some for outside owners and some that failed to sell at the juvenile sales.

“My dad already had everything started with our training center in Texas,” Clary said. “About three years ago, we developed Clary Bloodstock and he helped me with that. This will be out first year selling without him. It was bittersweet to work a :9 4/5 without him.”

She continued, “My dad started out training, so if we can't sell them, we train them. The end goal is to always sell, but it doesn't always happen that way. That's how my dad got Kip Deville (a MSW for Neatherlin turned MGISW after a private sale to Rick Dutrow), but then we had [MGSW] Airoforce [an OBSAPR pinhook].”

Clary purchased Hip 537 along with her husband, father and their longtime owner and partner Brad Walker for $80,000 at Keeneland September. Bred by WinStar Farm, the bay is out of MGSW & GISP House Rules (Distorted Humor). Her year-older half-sister Customer Driven (Quality Road) broke her maiden in February.

“We knew she had a really nice pedigree,” Clary said. “We decided if she went for a decent price we would try to get her. She was a really well-balanced filly and she had a presence about her. You could tell she was a very business-oriented filly and that has come through quite a bit. She is all business on the track.”

As for the bullet work, Clary said, “We always knew she was pretty special. She has shown she was fast. She has never backed down from work and always wants to go train. She watches herself and nothing gets her too worked up. She walked up there and showed herself like I knew she would. She laid it out on the track for us.”

Clary added, “She has a good scope, good vet, good breeze and good pedigree. It is all we could ask for.”

Clary's consignment consists of four horses total, including a Dialed In colt, who was he final purchase by her father before his death (Hip 871).

“It is bittersweet, but he would want me to sell the Dialed In,” Clary said. “That's what he would want at the end of the day, so hopefully she works fast and makes some money.”

The trio of :20 3/5 breezers was comprised of a Mizzen Mast filly from Wavertress Stables (Hip 543) (video); a Lord Nelson colt consigned by Jesse Hoppel's Coastal Equine (Hip 548) (video); and a Distorted Humor colt from the Pick View shedrow (Hip 671) (video).

Hip 548 is from the second crop of the late MGISW Lord Nelson. Hoppel acquired the dark bay for $80,000 at the Keeneland September sale. The Arkansas-bred is a half to MSP Macho Miah (Macho Uno).

“He looked like a good individual [at Keeneland] and something that would grow up into the type of horse we want to sell as a 2-year-old,” Hoppel said. “He is one of the better individuals we were bringing out here. I knew he was going to be one of my stars for April back in January. It was becoming pretty apparent that he was going to be a nice horse.”

Saturday’s Cross Country Pick 5 Features Stakes From Aqueduct, Keeneland

The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) will host a Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday featuring stakes from Aqueduct Racetrack and Keeneland.

Free Equibase past performances for the Cross Country Pick 5 sequence are now available for download at https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/racing/cross-country-wagers.

The sequence begins in Race 8 at 4:44 p.m. Eastern from Keeneland, the $200,000 Giant's Causeway for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over the turf. The field is headlined by the return of dual Group 1 winner Campanelle, who will hope to rebound from a third in the Grade 3 Buffalo Trace Franklin County last out on October 15 at Keeneland. Trained by Wesley Ward, the daughter of Kodiac was the winner of the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville and the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Ascot last year.

Campanelle will face an overflow field of opponents, including M Bar O's Elle Z, who streaks in from a trio of stakes victories at Fair Grounds Race Course for trainer Chris Hartman. Her recent wins include the Nelson J. Menard Memorial, the Frederick P. Aime Memorial and the Mardi Gras. Also included are graded stakes winners Change of Control, a dual Grade 3 winner, and Jouster, winner of the 2021 Grade 2 Appalachian over the Keeneland lawn.

The action moves north for the second leg in Race 8 [5:06 p.m.] from Aqueduct, a 1 1/16-mile turf starter allowance for 3-year-olds and upward. Ginnsu Warrior enters from a runner-up effort in a $32,000 claimer on February 21 where he was claimed by new owner Flying P Stable and trainer Tom Morely. A son of First Samurai, Ginnsu Warrior broke his maiden at third asking in a maiden special weight in August at Indiana Grand.

Jordan Wycoff's Hilliard returns from a six-month layoff for his first start since a good fourth-place effort in the nine-furlong Grade 2 Hill Prince at Belmont Park in October. Other foes include Bar Fourteen, who was an eight-length winner first off the claim for trainer Gary Sciacca for a $40,000 tag. He was a well-beaten eighth last out in the Stud Muffin starter stakes on March 26 at the Big A and will be trying turf for the first time since a sixth-place finish in a claiming race at Aqueduct on November 21.

The sequence moves back to Keeneland for graded action in Race 9 [5:16 p.m.], the Grade 3 Lexington for sophomores travelling 1 1/16 miles over the main track. The Lexington offers 20-8-4-2 Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the top-four finishers. The Kelly Breen-trained In Due Time was last seen finishing second in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on March 5 at Gulfstream Park, defeated 3 1/2 lengths by Simplification in his graded stakes debut.

Other familiar faces from the Road to the Kentucky Derby include Grade 2 Rebel runner-up Ethereal Road, who makes a quick turnaround from a distant seventh-place finish in the Grade 1 Blue Grass on April 9 at Keeneland for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Peachtree Stable's Tawny Port will attempt to retain his spot in the top 20 Kentucky Derby hopefuls after he picked up his 40 qualifying points with a runner-up effort to Tiz the Bomb in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks on April 2 at Turfway Park. Also featured are Grade 3 Lecomte winner Call Me Midnight and Grade 3 Iroquois winner Major General.

The action switches back to Aqueduct for Race 9 [5:40 p.m.], a starter allowance for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up sprinting six furlongs on the outer turf. Marequest and Empire Racing Club's Freedomofthepress was a last out winner first off the claim in November for trainer Linda Rice, breaking her maiden by 2 3/4 lengths after she was acquired for $40,000 out of a fourth-place effort in October at Belmont. Lady of Thoroton also enters from a last-out victory, taking a $32,000 claimer by 1 1/2 lengths on February 25 over a sloppy and sealed Big A main track. Michael Schmidt's Bella Principessa enters in good form for trainer Rob Klesaris, boasting two wins and two thirds in her last four outings.

The sequence wraps up in Race 11 (6:20 p.m.) at Keeneland, a competitive seven-furlong allowance optional claiming sprint for older horses. Two-time winner Ducale has never been off-the-board in five starts for trainer Brad Cox, most recently finishing a close second in a one-mile allowance on November 28 at Churchill Downs where he was defeated one length by Cody's Wish.

Ducale will face steep opposition from stakes Highly Motivated, who makes his first start for trainer Chad Brown since finishing 10th in last year's Grade 1 Kentucky Derby. The son of Into Mischief won the 2020 Nyquist at Keeneland and finished second by a neck to three-time Grade 1 winner Essential Quality in the Grade 2 Blue Grass last year. Also featured is Grade 1-placed Soup and Sandwich for Hall of Famer Mark Casse. The Into Mischief grey finished second to Known Agenda in last year's Grade 1 Florida Derby and most recently finished third in an optional claimer at Gulfstream Park.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool. The Cross Country Pick 5, which features a low 15 percent takeout, will continue each Saturday throughout the year.

America's Day at the Races will present daily coverage and analysis of the spring meet at Aqueduct Racetrack on the networks of FOX Sports. For the complete broadcast schedule, visit https://www.nyra.com/aqueduct/racing/tv-schedule.

Friday Offers Final Chance To Play Coast-To-Coast Stronach 5

Friday's Stronach 5 will give bettors one more chance to reap the rewards of a low 12 percent takeout and what has been a strong return on investment since 2018.

The wager will feature races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields and will begin at 4:40 ET with Laurel's eighth race, a 5 ½ furlong maiden special weight event on the turf for fillies and mares. After stops in Florida and California, the Stronach 5 will conclude back at Laurel with Race 10.

“The Stronach 5 is taking a pause on April 15,” said Mike Rogers, acting president of the Maryland Jockey Club. “We're retooling and refreshing 1/ST's Coast to Coast Pick 5 offerings. Please stay tuned for more innovative wagering opportunities involving 1/ST Racetracks this Summer and Fall.”

Leg A: Laurel Race 8: 4:40 ET

5 ½ furlongs turf, maiden special weight ($50,600), fillies and mares

A field of 12 go to post, and four are first-time starters. Fly My Home, trained by Michael Stidham, had the lead in the stretch at Fair Grounds against maiden special weight company March 22 before finishing third. That race was taken off the turf. The 3-year-old daughter of Temple City gets Jevian Toledo in the saddle. Looks Don't Lie goes out for the first time since October, but the 4-year-old daughter of Jimmy Creed had two seconds and three thirds in five turf starts last year. Hollywood Walk had one previous start in August and the daughter of Animal Kingdom finished fifth on the turf at Colonial Downs. Willing is a $135,000 daughter of More Than Ready who finished fourth over a sloppy track at Penn National in March in her only start. Forest Boyce rides.

Leg B: Gulfstream Race 8, 4:52 ET

About 5 furlongs Tapeta, starter optional claimer ($35,000), 3-year-olds

A likely favorite in this field of nine will be Unsociable from the barn of Saffie Joseph Jr. The 3-year-old son of Social Inclusion won his second start in a maiden optional claimer on the Tapeta in January before setting the pace and finishing second last time out over the same surface off a two-month layoff. Junior Alvarado gets the mount. Faithful Ruler is a $230,000 son of American Pharoah who broke his maiden on the all-weather surface at Turfway in January. Trainer Rohan Crichton has Emisael Jaramillo on Living Water. The due are 29-percent together and Living Watrer drops a bit in company. Eddie Plesa Jr.'s barn is going good and he sends out I'll Finish, who breaks from the rail and tries Tapeta for the first time.

Leg C: Santa Anita Race 3, 5:07 ET

5 ½ furlongs, maiden special weight ($67,000), fillies and mares

A field of eight maidens bred or sired in California and half will make their racing debuts. Reddam Racing LLC's Sapadilla and Anna's Music come out of the same race March 18. Sapadilla was a bit slow leaving the gate and checked in second, beaten eight lengths. Anna's Music was a half-length behind in third after also breaking slowly. She gets blinkers Friday. Square Not, a 5-year-old mare, was third in her debut March 27. Trainer Mark Glatt is 22 percent with maidens making their second start. Tracy Di Vicenzo was second in her debut Feb. 27 against $20,000 maiden claimers. The winner of that race, Marie, returned to win a $25,000 claimer against four others.

Leg D: Golden Gate Race 3, 5:21 ET

1-mile, Maiden Claimer ($16,000), 4-year-olds and up

Arch Prince has won two consecutive races, his last off a Feb. 25 claim for $8,000, and steps up in company once again. Coolcross was beaten by Arch Prince by two lengths Feb 25 and returned to finish third March 7 against Ecologist, who returned to win April 8. Bronze Warrior has wired fields twice at the distance and makes his first start since Jan. 30. Trainer Jonathan Wong sends out Push Through, third to Arch Prince March 25.

Leg E: Laurel Race 10: 5:44 ET

1 1/16-mile, maiden claimer ($10,000), three, four and five years old

The Stronach 5 concludes with a field of eight and Uncle Jerome coming out of a second-place finish against similar last out. Aftermath, an $80,000 son of Arrogate claimed out of his last at Turfway for $7,500, goes out first time for Anthony Aguirre Jr. and gets jockey Jorge Ruiz. A couple possibilities come from the barns of Robin Graham and Claudio Gonzalez. Oro Gris, trained by Graham, didn't run a bit in the slop last out. The gelding goes back to rider Forest Boyce and Graham puts blinkers on. Texas Tower was never a factor when finishing 10th in his debut March 19. This marks his first start in the Gonzalez barn.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
