Payment Options

What’s the difference between a credit card and a debit card? A prepaid virtual card and an e-wallet provider? A bank draft and a bank transfer? I found this all very confusing, and so set out to find out a little about all the different types of payment methods available; here’s my overview:

MasterCard: a credit card; it’s as if you’ve paid the money now, but you don’t actually pay it until your credit card bill comes at the end of the month where you will see the payment usually under the casino’s financial partner’s name.

Visa: Credit card, see MasterCard.

Delta: Debit Card under the Visa umbrella; a debit card takes the money directly from your bank account.

Visa electron: Either a debit card or a credit card depending on how a particular bank issues it. Not available in USA, Canada or Australia.

Neteller: Set up an account, pay into that account from your bank, credit card etc., and use that account to pay into online accounts such as your casino account. It acts as an in between man between you and your casino so your casino doesn’t have your bank details. Your Neteller account can be in a bunch of different currencies. A Neteller account also accepts money from the casino, so you can withdraw your funds into it. Charges vary depending on deposit methods.

Neteller Instacash: Offered in some countries only, this form of Neteller payment allows for instant credit transfer rather than waiting the usual 3 days for transfer of funds.

Ecocard: An online prepaid debit card. It can be topped up using a number of methods, and allows stricter control of online spending. Again, using the Ecocard limits the personal details that a casino site has; they will have your Ecocard details, not your credit card details.

Firepay: an online account that acts like a debit card; like the Ecocard, the funds must be in your Firepay account before you can use them, allowing for purchasing control. Firepay offers instant credit, direct bank funding, real-time account access, and unlimited incoming funds payments (i.e. your winnings from your casino account).

Moneybookers: An email based method of sending and receiving funds; the account is linked to your bank account or credit card.

EwalletXpress/900pay: 900pay from EwalletXpress bills online transactions to your phone bill; 900pay does not offer credit facilities.

Wire transfer: A straight transfer of funds from your bank account to the casino or from a cash office to the casino; wire transfers usually require a waiting period and often carry charges.

Cheque/bank draft: Just like writing a cheque to a friend; there is usually a fairly long waiting period for cheque payments.

Click2Pay: online account that acts as a middle man between you and the casino. May be funded through a number of options, and accepts incoming funds, i.e. from the casino. Comes with charges.

War Front Colt Sumter Takes Pasadena In Stakes Debut

Well supported and well spotted, Richard Mandella's Sumter, who has found a home on grass, stretched out for the first time and rewarded his backers with an authoritative three-quarter-length win while dictating terms throughout in Saturday's $100,000 Pasadena Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.  Ridden by Flavien Prat, who registered his third consecutive win to close out the afternoon, Sumter, a 3-year-old colt by War Front, got one mile on turf in 1:34.77.

Freshened since rallying for an impressive 3 ¼-length maiden score going five furlongs on turf Nov. 14 at Del Mar, Sumter went to the front and was immediately engaged to his outside by Barbasas, who shadowed him by a half length to the far turn and nearly got on terms at the top of the lane, but Prat had a full tank of gas and in an instant, opened up three lengths en route to holding a late running Handy Dandy safe at the wire.

“He was traveling super,” said Prat, the meet's runaway leading rider with 55 wins, 11 of them in stakes.  “He broke good, got some speed from the sprint, but then settled in nice and was relaxing well.  He responded well when I asked him to make a move.  I think (this) was as impressive as (his win) last time.

“Especially given there was a question mark on the distance.  He actually ran the distance well so, it was a good race today.  I think the distance was perfect for him, he may even try further.”

Beaten 22 ¾ lengths in his 5 ½ furlong debut on dirt four starts back on July 25, Sumter then posted a pair of seconds going short on turf prior to the maiden win Nov. 14.  Off as the 8-5 favorite in a field of 11 sophomores, he paid $5.20, $3.40 and $2.80.

Owned by Perry R. Bass II and Ramona Bass and bred in Kentucky by their Bass Stables, LLC, Sumter is out of the More Than Ready mare A Little Bit Sassy.  With his first stakes win in-hand, Sumter now has earnings of $129,600 courtesy of the winner's share of $60,000.

“Yes, we felt good about his chances today,” said Mandella.  “His last couple works were pretty impressive.  He's always shown a lot of talent and I thought he might do well on the dirt (July 25) but he surely didn't.  Today, he was on the lead, but he was pretty relaxed doing it and that's always the key.”

As for Handy Dandy, he appeared unlucky, as he got shuffled back while in tight quarters heading to the far turn and then unleashed a furious stretch rally to come up a diminishing three quarters of a length shy on the money.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Handy Dandy was off at 5-1 and paid $5.40 and $3.60.

Mid-pack about six lengths off the lead at the half mile marker, Crosby Beach saved ground to the top of the lane, altered course a sixteenth out just out-sprinted Don't Swear Dave by a head for third money while finishing 1 ½ lengths behind Handy Dandy.

Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Crosby Beach was off at 11-1 and paid $5.80 to show.

Fractions on the race were 23.17, 47.70, 1:11.49 and 1:23.06.

Racing resumes with a nine-race card on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.  Admission gates open at 10:30 a.m.

Epicenter Cruises To Front-Running Victory In Risen Star; Earns 50 Kentucky Derby Points

Racing over the Fair Grounds main track surface for the third time this winter, Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC's Epicenter grabbed the early lead under Joel Rosario and never looked back, winning Saturday's Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes easily by 2 3/4 lengths. Smile Happy, the 2-1 favorite making his first start since taking the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes last Nov. 27, finished second, with Zandon a half length back in third and Pioneer of Medina fourth in the field of 10.

The Risen Star is a qualifying points race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby and the first to offer a total of 85 points on a 50-20-10-5 basis to the top four finishers.

Updated Kentucky Derby leaderboard

The order of finish was completed by Tawny Port, Slow Down Andy, Trafalgar, Pappacap, Bodock and Russian Tank.

Bred in Kentucky by Westwind Farm, Epicenter is by Not This Time out of the Candy Ride mare, Silent Candy. He was purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds for  $260,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the consignment of Bettersworth Westwind Farms.

Epicenter, trained by Steve Asmussen, was clocked in 1:49.03 for the nine furlongs on a fast track after setting fractions of :23.79, :47.97, 1:12.25 and 1:36.58. He paid $9 to win.

“He did run a really big race today,” said Rosario. “That was really nice. He looked like he was enjoying what he was doing and put in a really nice race today. We'll see going forward how far he can go.”

Owner Ron Winchell said: “A little different than his last race (when second in the G3 Lecomte Stakes) in that every quarter was perfect. He looked nice and comfortable we were just hoping he would finish off the race and he did. He looked great.”

Epicenter was beaten a head by Call me Midnight in the Lecomte after setting early fractions of :23.40, :47.01 and 1:12.16. He led to the final yards of that 1 1/16-mile race. Prior to that, Epicenter won the Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 26 by 6 1/2 lengths.

Corey Lanerie, aboard Smile Happy, said he didn't get the ideal trip in the Risen Star. “About the 3/8ths pole to the 5/16ths I was wanting to get out and start to make my run a little sooner than I was able to. I felt like I was still running the time I got out to the end (finish line), so if I had gotten out when I had wanted to, I would have liked to see the outcome. But he ran fabulous and he has some (Derby) points now.”

Chad Brown, trainer of Zandon, who was runner-up to Mo Donegal in the G2 Remsen at Aqueduct last Dec. 4, said his horse's chances were compromised at the break.

“He leapt at the start so it was disappointing he was so far back,” said Brown. “He lost all chance to win. I'm proud of the horse's effort that he was still able to get a minor piece. The points (10) can help us down the road.”
