Korea Racing Authority's Knicks Go (Paynter) carried strong 2020 form into 2021 with a comprehensive success in the GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational S., and the $87,000 KEESEP yearling had a strong second half of his 5-year-old season, winning four straight including the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic. As expected, he got the nod as champion older dirt male Thursday. The Brad Cox pupil now begins his second career at Taylor Made Stallions.

Second Straight Eclipse for Cox

Brad Cox earned his first Eclipse Award for outstanding trainer in 2020—ending a four-year streak by Chad Brown—and he doubled up in 2021 thanks to the exploits of his many standouts, including Knicks Go (Paynter) and Essential Quality (Tapit). Cox's runners racked up a North American leading $31,832,345 in earnings last season, taking 269 trips to the winner's circle from 1025 starters (26%).

Godolphin Named Outstanding Owner and Breeder

Godolphin enjoyed a banner year of racing in North America 2021 thanks to U.S.-based runners like Essential Quality (Tapit) and G1 Dubai World Cup hero Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper), plus a long list of successful shippers brought in from Europe. As such, Godophin took home its second consecutive Eclipse Award Thursday as outstanding owner (fifth overall counting one under the Darley banner), and its second as outstanding breeder.

First Eclipse Award for Rosario

Jockey Joel Rosario's huge 2021 saw his mounts rack up $32,944,478—more than $3.6 million more than 2018, 2019 and 2020 Eclipse Award winner Irad Ortiz, Jr.—and the 37-year-old from the Dominican Republic celebrated his first Eclipse Award as outstanding jockey Thursday evening. Among Rosario's noteworthy wins last year were the GI Longines Breeders' Cup Classic aboard Knicks Go and GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies on Echo Zulu. He was also the regular rider of Jackie's Warrior. 

California-based Jessica Pyfer was named outstanding apprentice jockey. She booted home 59 winners with $2,857,333 in 2021 earnings and led all North American apprentices in earnings during the year.
