Street Sense Colt Leads Record-Breaking Session Of Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October Yearling Sale

A lively renewal of the Kentucky October Yearlings sale continued Wednesday in Lexington, Kentucky, led by the record-setting sale of Sam-Son-bred Street Sense colt from the family of Hall of Famer Dance Smartly.

A colt by Street Sense lit up the board shortly after 6 p.m. when sold for a sale record $925,000 to West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable and St. Elias Stable (video).

The price matched that paid for a Storm Cat filly at the 1999 edition of the sale and set a new highwater mark for a colt in the sale's history.

Offered as Hip 1107 by Sam-Son Farm, the bay colt is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare Dance With Doves, whose four winners to date including Grade 2 winner Dance Again (Awesome Again) and graded stakes placed Swoop and Strike (Smart Strike). The colt's second dam is champion 3-year-old filly Dancethruthedawn, a Grade 1 winner in the United States and winner of the prestigious Queen's Plate Stakes in Canada.

His third dam is 2003 Hall of Fame inductee Dance Smartly, whose list of accomplishments include: Sovereign Horse of the Year, Sovereign champion 3-year-old filly, Eclipse Champion 3-year-old filly, Sovereign champion 2-year-old filly, Breeders' Cup Distaff winner, and Canadian Broodmare of the Year. This exceptional family includes two-time leading sire Smart Strike, champion Say the Word, and Grade 1 winners Moreno and Full of Wonder. Hip 1107 was bred in Ontario by Sam-Son Farm.

“Honestly, the sales topper's a little bittersweet,” said Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning. “(Sam-Son has) had a wonderful program. They've (brought) wonderful horses to us here in October. Tom Zweisler and Dave Whitford are true professionals in every sense of the word… It was a great tribute to them and to the Samuel family to set the record here in October.”

Rounding out the top five prices of the third session were:

  • Hip 870, a colt by current leading first-crop sire Gun Runner out of Archstone (Arch), which sold for $750,000 to St. Elias Stables, from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent (video). The chestnut colt is a half-brother to multiple Grade 2 winner Proctor's Ledge (Ghostzapper). Hip 870 was bred in Kentucky by Patricia L. Moseley.
  • Hip 893, a colt from the first crop of Triple Crown hero Justify out of Back to Love (Street Cry-IRE), which sold for $450,000 to John Fahey, agent, from the consignment of Hunter Valley Farm, agent. The bay colt is out of a half-sister to the graded stakes winner Necessary Evil and to the dam of group stakes winner Sergei Prokofiev, and hails from the immediate family of multiple Grade 1 winner Over All. Hip 893 was bred in Ontario by Peter A. Berglar Racing Interests LLC and Anderson Farms.
  • Hip 890, a colt by three-time leading sire Tapit out of six-time stakes winner Awesome Flower (Flower Alley), which sold for $300,000 to BSW/Crow Colts Group from the consignment of Gainesway, agent. The chestnut colt is a half-brother to Zia's Song (Kitten's Joy), a winner at three this year, and to promising juvenile Cyberknife (Gun Runner). The immediate family includes champion and Dubai World Cup victor Well Armed and Grade 1 winner American Patriot. Hip 890 was bred in Kentucky by Kenneth L. Ramsey, Sarah K. Ramsey, and Tapit Syndicate.
  • Hip 1063, a colt from the first crop of multiple Grade 1 winner Bolt d'Oro out of Colby Cakes (Scat Daddy), which sold for $300,000 to Donato Lanni, agent for Michael Lund Petersen, from the consignment of Timber Town, agent. The bay colt is out of a half-sister to stakes winner and stakes winner-producer Lucky Copy, and hails from the immediate family of Grade/Group 1 winners Golden Pheasant and Henley's Joy. Hip 1063 was bred in Kentucky by Timber Town Stable and Wood Duck Stable.

“It's nice to see people walk around smiling, even the buyers,” added Browning. “It feels really good to be involved in a marketplace that's active and healthy… It's been a great three days and we hope to finish off strong tomorrow.”

During Wednesday's session, 302 yearlings changed hands for a gross of $14,534,500, setting a single-session record for the third day in a row. The day's average was $48,127 and the median was $22,000. Thirty-six horses sold for $100,000 or more.

Over the course of the first three sessions, 856 horses have sold for $39,511,600, surpassing last year's three-session gross of $25,452,800 paid for 726 horses by 55.2 percent. The running average is $46,158, up 31.7 percent from $35,059 at a comparable moment in 2020. The running median rose 40 percent to $21,000 from $15,000 after last year's third session. The RNA rate through three sessions stands at 16.6 percent.

The final session of this year's Kentucky October Yearlings sale begins Thursday at 10 a.m. Results are available online.

Eastern Invaders Spice Autumn Miss Field At Santa Anita

Lightly raced Zero Tolerance will stretch out and face graded stakes competition for the first time and could pose an elusive front-running target among a talented field of eight sophomore fillies going one mile on turf in Saturday's Grade 3, $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif.

Among those also figuring prominently in the Autumn Miss are Irish-breds Ego Trip and Burgoo Alley, along with Spanish Loveaffair and Madone.

Based at San Luis Rey Downs with Peter Miller, Zero Tolerance comes off an impressive one-length tally going 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf course in the ungraded Unzip Me Stakes Oct. 3. With leading man Flavien Prat back aboard, she figures to be sent from her outside post in what will be her first two-turn assignment.

A nose shy of being unbeaten in three starts, she broke her maiden two races back, winning by a half length going six furlongs on dirt.  By Mizzen Mast out of the El Prado mare Torreadora, Zero Tolerance is owned by Custom Truck Accessories, Jason Hall, Joe Kelly and Michael Riordan.

Although she's winless in three starts, Ego Trip has kept good company while defeating 21 combined runners in England and New York.  Second in a field of 13 in her seven furlong debut on synthetic at Newcastle on March 16, she closed much ground while running a close second in a one mile maiden special weight at Saratoga July 24.  Trained by Brendan Walsh and owned by Rebecca Hillen, she was subsequently third, beaten four lengths in the G2 Lake Placid Stakes going 1 1/16 miles over a yielding turf at Saratoga on Aug. 21 at odds of 3-1.

With Del Mar's G1, one mile turf Matriarch Stakes on Nov. 21 likely on the minds of many entering the Autumn Miss, Ego Trip ships in fresh from Keeneland for Walsh and gets the services of Victor Espinoza in her Southern California debut.

Third, beaten 1 ¼ lengths by Zero Tolerance as the 8-5 favorite in the Unzip Me Stakes Oct. 3, Burgoo Alley will be making her first graded stakes appearance on Saturday.  Winless in three starts in her native Ireland, Burgoo Alley, who is trained by Phil D'Amato, broke her maiden in her second stateside start going six furlongs on turf here June 21 and took a first condition allowance two starts back going one mile on grass at Del Mar Aug. 14.

Hard-hitting Burgoo Alley, who broke a bit slowly and then stumbled slightly a few jumps out of the gate in the Unzip Me, will be ridden for the sixth consecutive time by Umberto Rispoli and rates a huge chance.

Trained by Mark Casse, Spanish Loveaffair, who was a troubled fourth, beaten three quarters of a length by Ego Trip two starts back in the G2 Lake Placid at Saratoga, comes off the best race of her career—a 2 ¼ length score going one mile on turf in the ungraded Pebbles Stakes at Belmont Park on Sept. 19, a race in which she earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure.  A G3 stakes winner with three wins from five tries at a mile on grass, Spanish Loveaffair has an outstanding resume and has earnings of $264,090.

Owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Michael Hernon and Gary Barber, Spanish Loveaffair is by Karakontie and is out of the Unusual Heat mare Spanish Bunny.  A three-time stakes winner, she'll be making her first Southern California start with Abel Cedillo as she tries to improve upon an overall mark of 10-3-2-0.

A four-time stakes winner, the Simon Callaghan-trained Madone has posted five wins from six tries on turf and is the leading money earner in the field with $367,800.  Most recently fifth going 1 3/8 miles on turf in the ungraded Jockey Club Invitational Oaks at Belmont Park Sept. 18, she was a solid fifth two starts back in the G1 Del Mar Oaks going 1 1/8 miles on turf Aug. 21.

A winner of Del Mar's G2 San Clemente Stakes going one mile on turf three starts back, she'll be reunited with Juan Hernandez, who also guided her to victory in the G3 Senorita Stakes five races back here at Santa Anita on May 1.

Owned by Kaleem Shah, Inc., Madone is by the Medaglia d'Oro stallion Vancouver and is out of the Cherokee Run mare Indian Love Call.  Proven as a deep closer, she's also proven effective sitting close to the pace.  With five wins from nine starts, Madone will be bidding for her third graded stakes victory.

Nevada Casinos

Nevada, in particular, Las Vegas, is the first place most people think of when you mention the word “casino.” This state is known for gambling more than just about anything else. However, there is more to Nevada than gambling and the fine Nevada casinos.

The Hoover Dam, Pyramid Lake, Lake Tahoe and the vast desert spaces all add to Nevada’s pull as a tourist destination. Its capital, Carson City, is a town full of historical significance and of course, the lure of Las Vegas as a top travel destination, all add to the appeal of Nevada.

Casinos are plentiful in Nevada, with the major concentration of them being in Las Vegas. Almost all of Nevada’s casinos feature a large number of slot machines, table games, dining and entertainment options, with some more upscale than others. Nevada casinos are unmatched in terms of quality and most casinos around the world model their facilities after those found in Nevada.

Starting in Las Vegas, the higher end casinos include: The Aladdin Resort & Casino, The Bellagio, Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, The MGM Grand, Caesars Palace, The Excalibur Hotel & Casino, The Mirage, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, to name a few. These Nevada casinos all feature thousands of slots machines, hundred of table games and all of them feature special shows and entertainment options. From Broadway shows to musical performances by top artists to boxing matches, these Nevada casinos are the best of the best and are unrivaled. The Nevada casinos are visually stunning and from fountains to light shows, no expense in spared in the aesthetic affect of each one of the Nevada casinos. Up and down the Las Vegas “strip”, there are a number of smaller facilities, each devoted to helping you win and lose money. Each casino has facilities in place to pamper you, make you comfortable, and encourage you to stay longer, gamble more and spend more money.

Venturing outside of the bright lights of Las Vegas, there is a large of concentration of casinos in both Carson City and Reno.

Reno features the Atlantis Casino & Resort, Harrah’s and the Sands Regency Casino Hotel. Carson City boasts the Silver Dollar Casino and the Carson Nugget. Each of these Nevada casinos are not as large scale as those located in Las Vegas, but feature a nice mix of table games, slot machines and various amenities.

Nevada casinos are the best of the best and a casino can be found in almost any city in the state. The amenities are numerous, the stakes often high and the experience unforgettable. Finally, now and in the future, Nevada casinos will remain a popular tourist attraction.
