Third Class Four Medication Violation Of 2021 Filed Against Trainer Peter Miller

A class four medication violation complaint has been filed against trainer Peter Miller for the third time this year, reports the Thoroughbred Daily News.

His trainee Mr. Dougie Fresh tested positive for phenylbutazone after a breeze at San Luis Rey Downs training center on Sept. 19. Miller has not requested a split sample and is scheduled to appear before the California Horse Racing Board stewards.

The trainer's other class four (penalty category C) medication violations in 2021 include:

April 10: Miller was fined $500 for an Isoflupredone positive in Hembree, who won the seventh race at Santa Anita on Jan. 1.
Sept. 2: Miller was fined $1,500 for a phenylbutazone overage after a June 19 workout at San Luis Rey Downs, as well as .5 points in accordance with the CHRB's multiple medication violations rule.

MGSW & GISP Leinster Retired to Pleasant Acres

Trainer Rusty Arnold's MGSW & 2020 Breeders' Cup-placed Leinster (Majestic Warrior–Vassar, by Royal Academy) has officially been retired from racing and will stand at Joe and Helen Barbazon's Pleasant Acres Stallions in Florida for the 2022 breeding season. He will stand for $5,000 and has already arrived at the farm.

“Leinster is an exceptional addition to the stallion barn at Pleasant Acres Stallions,” said Joe Barbazon. “A world-class turf sprinter, he brings with him two blazing fast track records in graded events and four triple digit Beyers.”

Racing for a partnership that included Amy E. Dunne, Brenda Miley, Westrock Stables LLC, and Jean Wilkinson, Leinster made his racing debut at three and promptly ran into eventual Eclipse champion sprinter Mitole (Eskendereya) in his first start. He waited until the next year to break his maiden, then promptly took three straight at Keeneland, Churchill Downs, and Saratoga, including his first black-type try in the GIII Troy S. Leinster improved at five, winning the GII Shakertown S. and the GII Woodford S. prior to a third-place finish in the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. His only 2021 start yielded a win in the GIII Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint S. Leinster retires with a record of 24-6-6-5 and earnings of $764,971. He set new course records at both Saratoga and Keeneland, both at 5 1/2 furlongs.

“Track record holder at Saratoga and Keeneland,” said Arnold. “You don't get any faster than that and a beautiful individual to go with it.”

Leinster is a half-brother to four stakes performers, including two-time Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner Stormy Liberal (Atormy Atlantic), SW-Ire & MGSP-US Shimmering Moment (Afleet Alex), and GISP Coast Guard (Stormy Atlantic).

GISW Mischevious Alex to JBBA Shizunai

GISW Mischevious Alex (Into Mischief–White Pants Night, by Speightstown) had been retired from racing and will stand at JBBA Shizunai Stallion Station in Japan. The 4-year-old will be exported to the Hokkaido Island-based stud early in November. A stud fee will be established at a later date.

Trained by John Servis and campaigned by Cash Is King LLC at two, the bay won two of five starts, including the Parx Juvenile. Victorious in the GIII Swale S. and GIII Gotham S. early in his sophomore season, he was subsequently transferred to Saffie Joseph Jr. after LC Racing secured a stake in the colt. The winner of a pair of starts at Gulfstream for new connections, including the six-furlong GIII Gulfstream Park Sprint, the WinStar Farm-bred recorded his biggest career win in the GI Carter H. at Aqueduct. Third in Belmont's GI Met Mile later that June, he finished off the board in his final two starts against Grade I company. He retired with seven wins from 15 starts and earnings of $734,355.

TVG Telethon Benefitting PDJF Returns Oct. 17

Hall of Fame jockeys, TVG's on-air talent and other prominent racing personalities will once again take to the phones on Sunday, Oct. 17 as TVG and The Jockeys Guild host the third annual telethon to raise money for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF).

The event, canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, raised $330,000 in 2019, an increase of more than $100,000 over the inaugural event in 2018. Fan favorite jockeys of today and years past will be on hand live at call centers in California and Kentucky from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. Throughout the day, TVG will be connecting with personalities and horsemen who have been involved with the PDJF's work in support of jockeys who have suffered serious on-track injuries.

“We sincerely appreciate the support of TVG and FanDuel to help raise critical funds for the PDJF through the telethon. Many jockeys will be taking part in the telethon by answering the phones when fans call in to make a donation. This telethon will help in providing the monthly monetary assistance to riders whose lives have been forever changed by a catastrophic on-track accident,” said Jockeys' Guild President and CEO Terry Meyocks.

Mike Smith will be joined by Gary Stevens, Kent Desormeaux, Chris McCarron, Pat Day, Sandy Hawley, Laffit Pincay Jr, Alex Solis, Jean Cruguet, Mike Manganello, Shane Sellers, Darrel McHargue, Mickey Solomone and others who will be on hand to participate in the 2021 Telethon. Also on the call will be leading jockeys riding at Keeneland and Santa Anita that day.

“On behalf of the PDJF Board of Directors, we are grateful to have this opportunity as the PDJF's mission would not be possible if not for these types of fundraising efforts and the support of the racing fans,” said Nancy LaSala, PDJF President. “We want to thank TVG and FanDuel, the Jockeys Guild, horse owners, Hall of Fame jockeys, jockeys from around the country as well as our industry partners who support PDJF.”
