Tiz the Bomb Takes Bourbon Stakes, Punches Ticket To BC Juvenile Turf
Tiz the Bomb overcame his premature pop at the starting gate to navigate through a full field of fourteen and find the winner's circle for the Grade 2 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. With this victory, the 2-year-old son of Hit It a Bomb earns a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, the same race his sire won in 2016, on Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
An anxious Tiz the Bomb popped open the doors to his stall in the starting gate just after the last horse had loaded and only got a few yards down the lane before an outrider grabbed him. After a vet check, the Kenny McPeek trainee was loaded back into the gate with no trouble.
After a clean break, Heaven Street was fastest to the front on the first turn, with Tiz the Bomb's outside post allowing him to settle behind the front four around the first turn. Sitting fifth, jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. waited for the far turn to improve their position, going around horses to find a running lane for their stretch run.
In the Keeneland straight, Play Action Pass took over the lead from Heaven Street, as Tiz the Bomb ran down the center of the track and taking over the lead in the last furlong to win by a three-quarters of a length. Stolen Base came on late to take second, with Credibility third. The final time for the 1 1/16 miles over the firm turf was 1:43.69.
Tiz the Bomb paid $7.80, $4.60, and $3.80. Stolen Base paid $8.20 and $6.40. Credibility paid $20.40. Find this race's chart here.
The G2 Bourbon is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series. Winners of Challenge Series events earn a fees-paid, guaranteed spot in the starting gate for the corresponding race at the Breeders' Cup World Championships Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in Del Mar, Calif.
Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm, Tiz the Bomb is out of the Tiznow mare Tiz the Key. Owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds III Limited, the 2-year-old colt was consigned by Eaton Sales and sold to Kenny McPeek, agent, for $330,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Select Yearlings Showcase. With his win in the Bourbon, Tiz the Bomb has three wins in four starts and career earnings of $447,841.

Pimlico Hosts Canter For a Cause
Over 260 riders and their mounts from throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and farther afield cantered, walked and trotted across Pimlico Race Course Sunday, to raise awareness and money for the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA) as part of Canter for a Cause. The event, sponsored by the Maryland Jockey Club, saw registered riders go out in one of four groups between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to take their horse around Pimlico, as well as walk through the starting gate and get their picture taken in the winner's circle.
“The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance is honored to be the charity of choice for Canter for a Cause once again,” said Stacie Clark Rogers, operations consultant for TAA. “It's always so great to see so many people eager to support accredited Thoroughbred aftercare and have some fun while doing it. Thank you to 1/ST for hosting the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and for all that they do for our horses.”

God Of Love, Fast Feet Make It A Casse Exacta In Cup and Saucer At Woodbine
Dual Hall of Fame conditioner Mark Casse hit the exacta with winner God of Love and runner-up Fast Feet in the 85th running of the $251,200 Cup and Saucer Stakes Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Ontario.
While 7-2 choice Fast Feet set the early tone in the 1 1/16-mile turf classic for Canadian-bred two-year-olds, it was 7-1 stablemate God of Love, a son of Cupid, who finished strongest of all to take the spoils.
Fast Feet, bred and owned by Gary Barber, arrived at the Cup and Saucer off an impressive first-time out win in September, and looked sharp again, taking his 10 rivals through an opening quarter of :25:53, as Mentoring kept close tabs on the leader, with Dancin in Da'nile following in third. God of Love, with Rafael Hernandez aboard, was well back in the pack, sitting in ninth.
Fast Feet continued to set the pace, still operating on a half-length lead over Mentoring through a half in :50.44, as God of Love was still well back in eighth.
Heading into the final turn, Fast Feet began to pick up the pace and attempted to draw away from his pursuers. God of Love, ninth at Robert Geller's three-quarters call, still had plenty of work ahead of him.
After methodically picking off his rivals one by one, God of Love set his sights on his stablemate and began to carve into the former's lead, going on to secure a 1 ¾-length score in a time of 1:47.86 over a yielding E.P. Taylor Turf Course.
Stronger Together finished one length behind Fast Feet for third and Dancin in Da'Nile took fourth.
“I tried to get the times, tried to get closer, because I know the turf is soft and we didn't want to be stuck behind too many horses, but he refused to go early,” said Hernandez. “He said, 'Nah.' He was staying back, so I said we will try to make it in one run. I put him in gear, and he gave one run, and he came flying down the lane.”
The Ontario-bred returned $17.10 for the win.
Owned by Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, God of Love, bred by the late Bill Graham, was seventh as the favorite in his career bow, a 5 ½-furlong Tapeta race, on September 12 at Woodbine.
Hernandez, who teamed with Casse to win three races at Woodbine on Saturday, including the Overskate Stakes, thinks there are even better days ahead for the chestnut colt.
“He can go on both (surfaces). He just needs to go longer. The longer he goes, the better he's going to go.”
It was the sixth Cup and Saucer crown for Casse and his third straight.
