Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund Telethon Scheduled For Oct. 17

Hall of Fame jockeys, TVG's on-air talent and other prominent racing personalities will once again take to the phones on Sunday, Oct. 17 as TVG and The Jockeys Guild host the third annual telethon to raise money for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF).

The event, canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, raised $330,000 in 2019, an increase of more than $100,000 over the inaugural event in 2018. Fan favorite jockeys of today and years past will be on hand live at call centers in California and Kentucky from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. ET. Throughout the day, TVG will be connecting with personalities and horsemen who have been involved with the PDJF's work in support of jockeys who have suffered serious on-track injuries.

“We sincerely appreciate the support of TVG and FanDuel to help raise critical funds for the PDJF through the telethon. Many jockeys will be taking part in the telethon by answering the phones when fans call in to make a donation. This telethon will help in providing the monthly monetary assistance to riders whose lives have been forever changed by a catastrophic on-track accident,” said Jockeys' Guild President and CEO Terry Meyocks.

Mike Smith will be joined by Gary Stevens, Kent Desormeaux, Chris McCarron, Pat Day, Sandy Hawley, Laffit Pincay Jr, Alex Solis, Jean Cruguet, Mike Manganello, Shane Sellers, Darrel McHargue, Mickey Solomone and others who will be on hand to participate in the 2021 Telethon. Also on the call will be leading jockeys riding at Keeneland and Santa Anita that day.

“On behalf of the PDJF Board of Directors, we are grateful to have this opportunity as the PDJF's mission would not be possible if not for these types of fundraising efforts and the support of the racing fans,” said Nancy LaSala, PDJF President. “We want to thank TVG and FanDuel, the Jockeys Guild, horse owners, Hall of Fame jockeys, jockeys from around the country as well as our industry partners who support PDJF.”

The PDJF is a registered 501(c)3 charity that provides financial assistance to former jockeys who have suffered on-track injuries. Since its foundation in 2006, PDJF has disbursed over $11 million to support disabled jockeys, the organization is 100% reliant on charitable donations.

Sam Houston Boosts Purse For Houston Ladies Classic To $400,000 In 2022

Sam Houston Race Park will kick off its 2022 live racing season on Thursday, Jan. 6 with an expanded 50-day Thoroughbred meet.

The 2022 Thoroughbred Stakes schedule will offer $2,275,000 in purses. Its Houston Racing Festival is set for Sunday, January 30 headlined by the Houston Ladies Classic (G3) and the John B. Connally Turf (G3). Inaugurated in 2013, the Houston Ladies Classic was formed to serve as the marquee racing event for Sam Houston's Thoroughbred meet. Now in its tenth running, the mile and one-sixteenth Houston Ladies Classic continues to produce exceptional champions that make an impact on the national radar throughout the year.

St. George Stable's Letruska continues to deny her rivals in graded stakes competition across the United States. Following her commanding victory in the Houston Ladies Classic, the 5-year-old mare by Super Saver has won five stakes, including four Grade 1 titles. She currently ranks second in the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, a weekly salute to the ten leading Thoroughbreds in North America and will compete next in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff at Del Mar.

The purse for the Houston Ladies Classic has been raised from $300,000 to $400,000 for the coming year and officials are hopeful that the North American Graded Stakes committee will boost its status from the Grade 3 level when announcement is made later this year.

The Houston Racing Festival also includes the Grade 3, $200,000 John B. Connally Turf Cup, the $100,000 Pulse Power Turf Sprint, the $75,000 Jersey Lilly Turf Stakes and $75,000 Stonerside Sprint. The $200,000 Texas Turf Mile for three-year-olds has attracted full field for the last two years and has been renamed as the Bob Bork Texas Turf Mile.

Bob Bork was a respected racing executive who joined Sam Houston Race Park as senior vice president and general manager in 1995 and was promoted to president in 2002. He passed away peacefully at his home in Houston on June 11, 2021 at the age of 83.

Dwight Berube, who worked for Bork throughout his Sam Houston Race Park tenure, is now the racetrack's vice president and general manager.

“Bob Bork set a tremendous foundation for the growth of Sam Houston Race Park when he was hired in 1995,” said Berube. “Throughout his 12-year tenure, he was admired by horsemen, horseplayers and employees and initiated many programs that have been emulated by racetracks across the country. We look forward to honoring him on the premier day of our upcoming racing season.”

Opportunities for Texas-breds will be plentiful in the upcoming meet with 14 Texas-bred stakes. All seven stakes races on Texas Champions Day will run with purses of $100,000.

Frank Hopf, who was recently promoted to Sam Houston Race Park's Assistant General Manager, is eager for racing to return in January.

“Over the past three years, we have received tremendous support from all of the stakeholders in Texas and the horseplayers have responded to the improved racing product,” said Hopf. “The goal is to build on the positives from 2021 and continue to enhance Texas racing.'

Additionally, Hopf also announced that both the Houston Ladies Classic (G3) and the John B. Connally Turf (G3) will run Lasix-free in 2022.

Oct. 15 Deadline For Breeders’ Cup Foal Nominations Fast Approaching

This Friday, Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m. ET is the last opportunity for horsemen to nominate weanlings of 2021 to the Breeders' Cup program at the one-time regular nomination fee of $400.

The $400 nomination entitles each foal with lifetime eligibility to the Breeders' Cup World Championships and the Breeders' Cup Racing Programs. All foals sired by a fully-nominated North American Breeders' Cup stallion are eligible for nomination to the Breeders' Cup program in their year of birth at the weanling rate.

Breeders' Cup Limited has been Thoroughbred racing's most significant international program for over 38 years. During this time, Breeders' Cup has allocated purses and awards in excess of $860 million to owners, foal nominators and stallion nominators through the programs of the Breeders' Cup including the annual $31 million Breeders' Cup World Championships.

In addition to the racing benefits, in 2021, Breeders' Cup foal nominators have earned $10,000 for every victory in a Breeders' Cup Challenge “Win and You're In” race and upon starting are also eligible to win nominator awards in every Breeders' Cup World Championships race. The individual nominating the foal receives these nominator awards even though the horse may change hands throughout its racing career.

Mobile casino games. Part two.

From my point of view, the most convenient interface is in mobile casinos using “Microgaming” software – easy handling action buttons (which is particularly helpful playing video poker), there is no need to make extra touches to make a bet and start a new game, pleasant graphics. Speaking about honesty of the mobile casinos games, then the casinos I played in, and these were casinos of repute, in most cases with famous software, my results were good. In the majority of casinos I managed to win, that is the results were even better that they should have been in theory. On the whole, I would quite recommend playing in mobile casinos.

Finally sitting down at the poker table, you will discover that it is a reduced copy of the Ongame tables with the same avatars of players. There are no flags of prior action option, the decision is taken by pressing buttons 1-3, with the unlimited Hold’Em after a bet/raise there appears a window, where one can enter the amount of your bet.

On the whole, it is rather convenient to play, especially limited poker, though, you will not manage to play at several tables, therefore, I think that it is better to play face to face: a dynamic game and the image is big, no need to scroll. Also I would recommend to test your poker skills at Bwin mobile poker room, as well as at rather popular EuroPoker room. By the way, the traffic while playing is quite low – not higher than in a mobile casino. If you have any doubts about your competence in poker techniques try to play off-line for the practicing purposes.
