There will be a range of new benefits for registered owners offered by the Dubai Racing Club in conjunction with the Emirates Racing Association for the 2021/22 UAE racing season. Some of the benefits for existing and new owners is as follows:

TDN Rising Star For New Bay’s New Energy at The Curragh

Sunday's William Hill Ireland Play Responsibly Irish EBF Maiden over seven furlongs at The Curragh looked deep on paper and a deeply impressive display it produced, with John Lavery's 2-year-old colt New Energy (Ire) (New Bay {GB}), a £65,000 Goresbridge breeze-up graduate, attaining 'TDN Rising Star' status in exciting fashion. The eventual winner, 'fifth' and 'first' in recent Dundalk barrier trials, was not without support at 11-1 odds and made a slick getaway to hold sway under a firm hold from flagfall. Hard on the steel with all rivals under pressure passing the two pole, he was allowed an inch of rein by Robbie Colgan entering the final furlong and powered clear in style to outpoint Sir Antonino (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) by 2 1/2 lengths. Paris Lights (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}), a full-brother to five-time Group 1 winner St Mark's Basilica (Fr), shaped with promise and ran on well in the closing stages to finish fifth.

“I really have to thank Gary Halpin, who gave this horse a big recommendation,” said trainer Sheila Lavery. “He didn't put the gun to his head at the Breeze-Ups because he was suffering a little bit from sore shins. I left him in today, but I was praying for rain just to ease the ground a bit. I thought so much of him that he had an entry in the [G2] Beresford, but I didn't want his first run to be at that level and have a hard race. He has a [G1 Irish 2000] Guineas entry and I think he's something very special. He has a very natural high cruising speed and ran twice in barrier trails. He was very green the first time, when I didn't put a cross noseband on him, and he won the second time. I would love to run him in a winners-of-one, but those sort of races are really missing from the programme. He could go for something like the [G3] Killavullan S. at Leopardstown.”

New Energy is the seventh of eight foals and becomes the fifth scorer produced by For Joy (GB) (Singspiel {Ire}), whose leading performer to date is G3 Premio Elena E Sergio Cumani victrix Victoria Regina (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}). For Joy, who has a yearling colt by Profitable (Ire) to come, is a winning full-sister to G3 Autumn S. victor Abjer (Fr) and G3 Henry II S. victrix Gloomy Sunday (Ire). The winner's second dam, Listed Prix Scaramouche winner Fine and Mellow (Fr) (Lando {Ger}), is one of four black-type winners bred from the Belgian champion and Listed Belgian St Leger heroine Mika Red (Bel) (Red Steps). Descendants of the latter include Listed Belgian 1000 Guineas-winning duo Mika Gallery (Ire) (Tate Gallery) and Baie des Anges (Bel) (Pas de Seul {GB}). For Joy's Profitable yearling is catalogued as Lot 566 in next month's Tattersalls October Book 2.

Dubawi’s Concert Hall Wins The Park

After a shift in tone on Saturday, Team Ballydoyle continued to reach a pitch with their 2-year-old crop at The Curragh on Sunday as the regally-bred Concert Hall (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) built to her own crescendo in the G3 Weld Park S. As if the juveniles at Rosegreen have been moved stealthily towards a peak for the all-important autumn scene, the daughter of the G1 Epsom Oaks heroine Was (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) put two uninspiring efforts behind her to deliver on her early promise under Seamie Heffernan. Held up in rear early, the 9-2 shot who had shaped as if she was coming forward with a fourth placing in the course-and-distance G1 Moyglare Stud S. Sept. 12 delivered a sustained run down the outer to collar Sunset Shiraz (Ire) (Time Test {GB}) 50 yards from the line and score by a length. “I'm delighted with her and if she comes out of this okay she'll probably step up and go on to the [Oct. 8 G1] Fillies' Mile [at Newmarket]. She's a hardy lady and is going to improve from racing. She stays well and is a good strong build.”

Runner-up on debut over six furlongs at Fairyhouse July 7, Concert Hall went one better over this track and trip 11 days later before failing to get involved in the Aug. 21 G2 Debutante S. on soft ground again over seven here. In the Moyglare, she was staying on to real effect late to get within a length of the third Sunset Shiraz and so this represented improvement on that bare form. In a race where it paid to come from behind, the winner overcame a bump from Cigamia (Karakontie {Jpn}) a furlong out to wear down the game runner-up who might have been paying for chasing the strong early tempo.

Concert Hall is the fourth foal and first black-type winner out of the aforementioned Was, who is a full-sister to this year's G2 Curragh Cup winner and 2020 G1 Epsom Derby third Amhran Na Bhfiann (Ire), the G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial S. scorer Douglas MacArthur (Ire) and the G3 Prix Cleopatre runner-up Al Naamah (Ire). She is also a full-sibling of the unraced dam of the Listed Prix Charles Laffitte winner and G3 Prix de Flore runner-up Mashael (Fr) who shares Dubawi as a sire with Concert Hall.

The second dam is the Listed Blenheim S. and Listed Rochestown S.-placed Alluring Park (Ire) (Green Desert), a daughter of the high-class dual champion Park Express (Ire) (Ahonoora {GB}) which makes her a half-sister to the brilliant five-times group 1-winning champion, Derby hero and prolific sire New Approach (Ire) by Was's sire Galileo. She is also a half to the G3 Matron S. winner and G1 Irish Champion S. and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas-placed Dazzling Park (Ire) (Warning {GB}) who is the second dam of Ballydoyle's past G1 Phoenix S. hero Alfred Nobel (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). This is also the family of the GII Royal Heroine Mile S. winner and GI Gamely S. runner-up Quiet Oasis (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), who produced this stable's dual G3 Gladness S. winner Lancaster House (Ire) also by Galileo, and this year's G1 Newmarket H. hero Zoutori (Aus) (Zoustar {Aus}). Julian Lloyd to Retire From Staffordstown, John Oxx Appointed Director

Staffordstown Stud Manager Julian Lloyd, who runs the yearling operation for Lanwades Stud's Kirsten Rausing, will retire at the end of 2021. Lloyd's current role will then be split between retired trainer John Oxx as Director and long-term Stud Groom Paddy Moloney, who will be the new Manager of Staffordstown.

“After 30 years at Staffordstown, with my 75th birthday on the horizon, it is time for my work here to come to a close and for me to change gear for the last couple of furlongs of my allotted span,” said Lloyd. “I have been friends with Kirsten since we first met in 1976 as enthusiastic youngsters with Capt Tim and Sonia Rogers at Airlie Stud, where we both swept the same yards. When Kirsten started this farm in 1991, Stud Groom Paddy Moloney and myself were the first two through the gate and we are still here today. Staffordstown has been a happy family home and place of work.

“It will be a wrench to leave this wonderful farm, now 475 acres of Co Meath's best old permanent pasture. Under Kirsten's beady eye I have no doubt that Staffordstown will continue to rear strong and useful horses from her wonderful band of broodmares. I have never met a better horseman than Paddy Moloney. He knows every inch of the farm and is the right man for the job to succeed me on site.

“The added input of John Oxx will indubitably be a great asset. There is no better-respected or liked man in the business. Paddy and John are fortunate in that they will be working with our long-established 'family' of staff, virtually all of whom have been here for between 10 and 25 years.”

“I am immensely grateful to Julian for all his marvellously dedicated work at Staffordstown for three decades,” said Kirsten Rausing. “We have remained friends and colleagues through times good and bad, and seen some good animals through their weanling to yearling process at Staffordstown. In fact the winners of over 1,800 races (160 of them group or listed winners) have been produced during our 30 years of operating the farm.

“At the end of this year, Julian leaves Staffordstown in the best of hands with Paddy Moloney and his team. I take this opportunity to warmly welcome John Oxx, trainer of 35 Group 1 winners including Sea The Stars and a former Chairman of The Irish National Stud, to the Staffordstown team.”
