The Jockey Club Projects 2022 Foal Crop Of 18,700
The Jockey Club is projecting a North American registered Thoroughbred foal crop of 18,700 in 2022. This represents 500 fewer foals than the 2021 foal crop estimate of 19,200.
The foal crop projection is computed by using Reports of Mares Bred (RMBs) received to date for the 2021 breeding season. RMBs are to be filed by August 1 of each breeding season.
Additional foal crop information is available in The Jockey Club's online fact book at jockeyclub.com/factbook.asp and in the online state fact books.
Stallion owners who have not returned their RMBs for the 2021 breeding season are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Interactive Registration, which enables registered users to perform virtually all registration-related activities over the Internet, is the most efficient means of submitting RMBs and is available at registry.jockeyclub.com.

Letter to the Editor: Mike Caruso
Very seldom does a person make the impact that “Doc” [Dr. David Richardson] made on so many people in so many different areas. He was a quiet genius in the fields of both medicine and Thoroughbred racing, an achievement that is so rare. He combined the qualities of intelligence, communicative skills, and an unparalleled memory with humility, generosity, and empathy. His loss is irreplaceable to those he called “friend.” If you were privileged to be among them, as so many of us were, you have a hollow feeling today. A giant has left us.

War Front’s Ancient Rome Conquers Chenes Rivals
It's been five years since Andre Fabre sealed a record ninth win in ParisLongchamp's G3 Prix des Chenes and the maestro made it a double-digit tally with Coolmore and Westerberg's Ancient Rome (War Front) in Thursday's latest renewal of the one-mile test. The 4-5 favourite had bettered a June 11 debut second at Compiegne with a July 13 breakthrough score at Deauville and doubled up back at the Normandy venue in an Aug. 10 conditions heat last time. Settled off the clear leader Claim The Crown (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) in second after breaking on the lead, he was stirred into action for his challenge passing the quarter-mile marker and quickened clear in style once hitting the front with 300 metres remaining to easily register a career high by two lengths from Scherzo (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}). Claim The Crown rallied gamely once headed and kept on well to finish a neck further back in third.
