The rail-drawn HARPER'S IN CHARGE (Malibu Moon) makes her first start since posting a runaway wire-to-wire 'TDN Rising Star' performance on debut at Aqueduct Nov. 15. The $220,000 KEESEP yearling purchase's unraced dam Azara (More Than Ready) is a half-sister to the brilliant Tepin (Bernstein) and MGSW Vyjack (Into Mischief). Harper's in Charge has a pair of bullets on her worktab for this at Christophe Clement's Saratoga base. Even-money morning-line favorite Bella Sofia (Awesome Patriot), runner-up behind the unbeaten Australasia (Sky Kingdom) in the Jersey Girl S. at second asking June 6, is cross-entered in Saturday's GIII Victory Ride S. at Belmont. She previously romped by 11 1/4 lengths with a gaudy 94 Beyer on debut May 6. TJCIS PPs

Hurricane Lane To Run In Grand Prix De Paris

After it was suggested earlier this week that he could head straight for the G1 St Leger in September, Godolphin's G1 Irish Derby winner Hurricane Lane (GB) (Frankel {GB}) was on Saturday supplemented to the July 14 G1 Grand Prix de Paris.

“It obviously looked like the Irish Derby was a tough race and we half expected him to lie down for three or four days afterwards, to be honest with you,” trainer Charlie Appleby said. “However, he came out of the race really well, he's not missed an oat since and has really shown his wellness since Monday of this week.

“We had a discussion collectively during the week and it was a case of either keeping him fresh for the Leger or heading to France, and we just felt waiting for Doncaster was going to be quite a long time to keep the lid on him. He worked [Saturday] morning and William [Buick] was very happy with him. The Grand Prix de Paris is his last chance to run in a Group 1 over a mile and a half against 3-year-olds so we thought we'd take the opportunity.”

Also traveling from Newmarket will be the William Haggas-trained Alenquer (Fr) (Adlerflug {Ger}), who was also supplemented on Saturday. Alenquer is two for two this year, having beaten the Derby winner Adayar (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G3 Classic Trial before taking Royal Ascot's G2 King Edward VII S. Aidan O'Brien currently has Sir Lamorak (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), Wordsworth (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and The Mediterranean (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) engaged.

Horse Owner Dilemma: To Bandage Or Not To Bandage?

It seems like horses injure themselves often but even with lots of practice, determining how to best care for their leg wounds can be difficult. That includes deciding whether a wound needs a bandage, or if a covering will impede the healing process.

According to EQUUS magazine, there are three main considerations when trying to decide whether to reach for the bandaging supplies:

Mobility: A wound that pulls open with every step a horse takes will heal more rapidly if it's wrapped. Though often more difficult to keep in place if over a joint like the knee or hock, a bandage is beneficial.

Depth: If the wound is so deep the underlying structures can be seen, infection is a real risk. Bandaging the wound is the best bet until granulation tissue can fill in the gap.

Proximity to the ground: A wound near the hoof on a pastern or coronet band is more likely to get dirt, manure and debris in and on it than one located higher up the leg. Additionally, if it's a hind leg injury on a gelding or stallion, there's a risk urine will splash on the cut and irritate the tissues. These wounds benefit from bandaging.

Wounds that can remain open do well when covered at least twice daily in a thick ointment to keep bacteria, dirt and insects out.
