Walk In The Park Gelding Top Lot at Goffs

A gelding by Walk In The Park (Ire) brought a session-topping final bid of €220,000 during the second session of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Wednesday. Consigned by Glenwood Stud as lot 249, the 3-year-old sold to Andy and Gemma Brown and Joey Logan. That trio had been in action for the second dearest lot during Tuesday's session, the €200,000 Aide Memoire (Fr) (Martaline {GB}). He is a half-brother to outstanding Group 1 chaser Monalee (Ire) (Milan {GB}).

Lot 339, a gelding by Milan (GB), brought €165,000 from the duo of Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls. Peter Nolan Bloodstock consigned the bay, who is from the same family as G1 Gaelic Leopardstown H. Chase winner Glamorgan Duke (Ire) (Flemensfirth).

Following on from Tuesday's 11 six-figure lots, trade on Wednesday added an equal number. Of the 199 horses offered, 169 found new homes during the second session, a clearance rate of 85%. The gross reached €7,790,000 for the day, with an average of €46,095 and a median of €38,000. Overall, the first two days of the sale have seen 353 lots sold from 401 offered (88%) for an aggregate of €16,337,500. The average and median so far are €46,282 (+10%) and €40,000 (+11%), respectively. Part 2 of the Goffs Land Rover Sale begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

“It's good to be back…and how,” said Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby in his end-of-sale statement. “Firstly to be in a position to hold a sale in Ireland for the first time this year is a massive step forward, not just for Goffs but for the Irish bloodstock industry, as it lays solid foundations upon which to build for the rest of the year.

“When expanding a sale there is always a risk that the quality is diluted but that has very much not proved the case with a two day Part 1 that has more than maintained the momentum that this sale has built up over the last decade. We always say we are nothing without the horses as we can't do it without them and vendors have largely reaped the benefit of their support for which we thank them most sincerely.”

Linda Rice Will Continue To Train After Court Grants Temporary Restraining Order

The County of Schenectady Supreme Court has granted a temporary restraining order to Linda Rice, just two days after the New York State Gaming Commission officially issued the order to revoke her training license for three years, reports the Daily Racing Form. As a result, Rice will be allowed to continue to train horses in the state of New York.

Andrew Turro, Rice's attorney, had argued that without injunctive relief, “Rice's training business, the result of a very successful 34-year career, will be irreversibly destroyed before the court can hear this case and determine Ms. Rice's application for a stay/preliminary injunction.”

Regarding Wednesday's decision, Turro told DRF: “The court's order restores Ms. Rice's ability to get back to racing and training immediately. We also look forward to challenging the commission's order in the court and ultimately vindicating Ms. Rice's rights.”

Licensees in New York are entitled to appeal a finding of a hearing officer to the appropriate court, and it is common for stays of suspensions to be issued while the appeals process plays out.

Rice had seen her license revoked officially on June 7, two weeks after the NYSGC voted to uphold a hearing officer's recommendation that Rice's license be revoked with the condition she could not reapply for licensure for at least three years. She had also been ordered to pay a fine of $50,000 and was to be denied all access to New York gaming commission-sanctioned properties.

Rice is accused of receiving information from the racing office about which horses were entered in which races prior to the official close of entries. The alleged information exchange took place over a period of 2011 and 2014, and the commission first brought a complaint against Rice in 2019. A series of hearing dates took place in late 2020, during which the commission and Rice's attorney presented information to a hearing officer along with numerous volumes of data and interview transcripts.

Japan’s Loves Only You Programmed For Breeders’ Cup Run

Loves Only You (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) will pass the upcoming G1 Takarazuka Kinen and will instead be trained towards an appearance at the Breeders' Cup meeting at Del Mar in November, according to a report in the Sankei Sports (SANSPO) daily sports newspaper.

A ¥160 million ($1,404,800) purchase as a yearling at the 2017 JRHA Select Sales, the 2019 G1 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) winner has been ambitiously campaigned this season, with a popular victory at home in the G2 Kyoto Kinen (2200mT) in February ahead of a game third-place effort behind Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) and likely Takarazuka Kinen favorite Chrono Genesis (Jpn) (Bago {Fr}) in the G1 Longines Dubai Sheema Classic (2410mT) the following month. The mare's international travels most recently took her to Hong Kong, where she led home a Japanese 1-2-3 sweep of the G1 FWD QE II Cup (2000mT) at Sha Tin Racecourse Apr. 25 (see below).

According to the Sanspo report, Loves Only You will be spelled in the cooler climates of Hokkaido near-term before amping up preparations for a potential trans-Pacific journey. Tentative plans call for a return to Hong Kong for the Longines Hong Kong International Races meeting in December.

Loves Only You would become the third Japanese-based horse to compete in the Filly & Mare Turf and would be following a similar path to Nuovo Record (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}), who was 11th in the 2016 renewal at Del Mar before annexing that track's GIII Red Carpet S. less than three weeks later. She made her next start in Hong Kong, finishing fourth to compatriot Satono Crown (Jpn) (Marju {Ire}) in the G1 Longines Hong Kong Vase. Japan's Red Desire (Jpn) (Manhattan Cafe {Jpn}) was a close fourth to Shared Account (Pleasantly Perfect) at odds of 5-1 in the 2010 F/M Turf at Churchill.

A full-sister to G1 Dubai Turf hero Real Steel (Jpn), Loves Only You has a career record of 13-6-1-3 and earnings of $5,196,190.
