Atomic Force a Stakes First for Cotai Glory at Chantilly

Hambleton Racing's Atomic Force (Ire) (Cotai Glory {GB}) registered a breakthrough score going five furlongs at Hamilton in his second start last month and was in dominant mood for Sunday's G3 Prix du Bois Longines upped in trip to six furlongs at Chantilly, leading from pillar to post and providing his Tally-Ho Stud-based freshman sire (by Exceed and Excel {Aus}) with a first black-type success. The March-foaled gelded bay, who posted an Apr. 3 debut second over five furlongs at Musselburgh, was away sharply for this first start outside Scotland and assumed immediate control of this straight dash. Rowed along when threatened briefly at the quarter-mile marker, the 69-10 chance was safely clear entering the final furlong and kept on strongly under continued mild urging to easily outclass Black Lives Matter (Fr) (Panis) by an impressive five lengths for a career high.

“He gave me a really great feeling and that was very easy from start to finish,” commented winning rider Stephane Pasquier. “He is a very nice horse and capable of going on to much better things. As a gelding, he will be unable to target the [Aug. 22 G1 Prix] Morny [at Deauville] and, although I don't know if it's on the radar for connections, the [July 17 G2 Prix] Robert Papin [back over this course and distance] is an obvious possibilty in the short term.”

Atomic Force is the latest of seven foals and and first black-type performer produced by a winning daughter of stakes-winning G2 Ribblesdale S. placegetter Marani (GB) (Ashkalani {Ire}). His dam Atlas Silk (GB) (Dansili {GB}) is a daughter of Listed Cheshire Oaks victrix Aquamarine (GB) (Shardari {Ire}), herself a half-sister to G1 St Leger-winning sire Toulon (GB) (Top Ville {Ire}). Descendants of Aquamarine, who is also and a granddaughter of G1 Prix Ganay and G1 Grand Premio del Jockey Club e Coppa d'Oro heroine Infra Green (GB) (Laser Light {GB}), include three-time stakes scorer Royal Dolois (Fr) (Silver Frost {Ire}) and G1 Prix du Jockey Club third Pain Perdu (Fr) (Vespone {Ire}).

Oasis Dream’s Erasmo Prevails in Chantilly’s G3 Prix Paul de Moussac

Godolphin's 3-year-old colt Erasmo (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}), successful at Chantilly in last term's Listed Prix Saraca and in last month's Listed Prix de Pontarme at ParisLongchamp, stepped up to better a second in the Apr. 11 G3 Prix La Force with a narrow victory in Sunday's G3 Prix Paul de Moussac Longines back at Chantilly. Settled just off the pace in fourth until taking closer order in the straight, the 14-5 second favourite launched his challenge going well passing the quarter-mile marker and was ridden out inside the final furlong to withstand the persistent threat of G2 German 2000 Guineas runner-up Best Lightning (Fr) (Sidestep {Aus}) by a short neck in snug fashion for a career high. Breizh Eagle (Fr) (Bow Creek {Ire}), who ran third in last month's G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains, was unable to land a telling blow and finished sixth.

“He is such a brave horse, he's all heart and a fighter,” said Godolphin's Lisa Jane Graffard. “He never runs a bad race and deserved that one. We will see how he comes out of the race, it is very warm and it may have taken a lot out of him. The [July 11 G1] Prix Jean Prat [at Deauville] is a possibility, but if he needs a rest then we will wait.”

Erasmo is one of three black-type winners for the stakes-placed Sant Elena (GB) (Efisio {GB}) and the February-foaled bay is kin to MG1SW sire Reckless Abandon (GB) (Exchange Rate), MGSP Listed Metropolitan S. victor Best Approach (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) and Listed Lenebane S. third Family Tree (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). He is also kin to the hitherto unraced 2-year-old filly Elena's Gift (GB) (Frankel {GB}) and the dam of G3 Sweet Solera S. victress West End Girl (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}). Sant Elena, who is out of a half-sister to G1 Racing Post Trophy scorer Crowded House (GB) (Rainbow Quest), is kin to MGISW distaffer Ticker Tape (GB) (Royal Applause {GB}) and G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest victor Brando (GB) (Pivotal {GB}).

ITBA Hosts Climate Action Webinar

A webinar entitled “Focus on CLIMATE ACTION” will be held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Friday, June 25, offered by the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (ITBA). The panel of experts in climate change assembled includes; John Geraghty, Agri Consultant, Jim McAdam, Honorary Professor, Queen's University Belfast, John McSweeney, Prof Geography at NUI Maynooth and David O'Connell, founder of OCAE Consultants.

“In addition to assembling an eminent panel of speakers, I am delighted to announce we have secured Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister of State for Agriculture, with responsibility for Land Use and Biodiversity, who will open the webinar with an key note address,” said ITBA CEO Shane O'Dwyer. “A thoroughbred breeder herself, Senator Hackett acknowledges ITBA is fully committed to supporting the Government's landmark Climate Bill of putting Ireland on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050. As thoroughbred production is low-intensity farming, Irish breeders are well placed to play their part in terms of stud farm sustainability, which in turn can feed into Ireland's Green Agenda.”

The webinar will cover key climate challenges including; Agroforestry, Biodiversity, Climate Change Cause & Effect, Grassland & Pasture Management, Management Adaptations for Climate Change and Soil & Mineral Management. Chaired by Cathal Beale, CEO of the Irish National Stud, it will also include a Q&A Session with members of the panel.
