Oaks Winner Returns Running in Azeri

Easing out to start the 9-5 second favorite while making her 4-year-old debut in Saturday's GII Azeri S. at Oaklawn Park, last year's GI Kentucky Oaks victress SHEDARESTHEDEVIL (f, 4, Daredevil–Starship Warpspeed, by Congrats) was allowed a reasonably easy time of it on the engine and held on late to narrowly defeat 3-2 chalk Letruska (Super Saver) by a short neck. Alertly away from the widest stall in the field of five, Shedaresthedevil was allowed to dictate terms, as Envoutante (Uncle Mo) did the pressing to her outside while Letruska was settled three wide for Joel Rosario. She covered the opening half-mile in a controlled :47.79, but had a hard-ridden Envoutante and Letruska stacked to her outside with every chance if good enough turning for home. Envoutante was the first to yield, but Letruska–taken out of her best game–kept plugging away and Shedaresthedevil managed to scrape home narrowly first.

Irish equine nutrition company Plusvital will support Naas's 2021 flat season, which kicks off on Mar. 28, with sponsorship of the Listed Plusvital Devoy S. Plusvital will also provide equine care packs to all winning grooms of best-turned out awards at Naas throughout the season. Eamonn McEvoy, general manager of Naas Racecourse, added, “We are delighted that Plusvital are back with us again sponsoring The Plusvital Devoy S. in 2021. The support they are showing the industry is a credit to them but more importantly the grooms care pack they are putting in place for the grooms has really impressed me. Great credit must go to Ciara Watt and her team on bringing this concept into play. A Fresh Look With Ed Sackville

It's that time of year: with just weeks to go to the start of the turf season, thoughts are turning to which of this year's freshman sires will be making a splash with their first runners. With 26 European first-crop stallions to consider, we have asked the views of those who have seen a good range of young stock at the sales. Today we get the thoughts of bloodstock agent Ed Sackville.

“I better put my money where my mouth is, so my choice is Cotai Glory (GB), a track record-breaking 2-year-old,” Sackville said. “Alastair [Donald, partner in SackvilleDonald] bought Cotai Glory as a yearling for an important Hong Kong-based owner. He went on to be our third [G3] Molecomb [S.] winner in a row and was also Group 1-placed at Royal Ascot. Top-class stallion producers Tally Ho bought into him and he stands there alongside champions Kodiac (GB) and Mehmas (Ire).

“Between us Alastair and I purchased six Cotai Glory yearlings and they will be trained by Tom Dascombe, Richard Hannon and Roger Varian. I have such faith that I've even backed him to be leading first season sire.”
