Trainer Rebecca Bastiman Passes at 40

Trainer Rebecca Bastiman passed away following a long illness according to her Facebook page, Rebecca Bastiman Racing. The trainer was 40.

A statement on Bastiman's Facebook page read, “It comes with extreme sadness and heartache that I'm posting this, but sadly Rebecca Bastiman has peacefully passed away after a long illness.

“Being a trainer was her dream her life, her everything, she put 110% into the love and care of her four-legged friends.

“Rebecca was a dedicated trainer and a hard worker, she was first on the yard and last to leave, she mucked out and rode out and loved the challenge of problem horses and sweetening them up.

“Rebecca will leave a hole in many people's hearts, but her legacy will go on and never be forgotten. The world has lost a special, beautiful person but the heavens have gained an angel.”

Bastiman was the daughter of trainer Robin Bastiman, who trained dual Nunthorpe S. victor Borderlescott (GB) (Compton Place {GB}). Also a three-time winner as an amateur jockey, she took over from her father in 2015. Throughout her seven seasons as a trainer, Bastiman saddled over 100 winners. Her best runner was Thirsk Hunt Cup hero Hayadh (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}).

Four General Gambling Tips

Today I’ll give you four general gambling tips that every gambler should know. I won’t go into a long, exhaustive detail, because these tips don’t require it. The concept is fairly simple. Know them, use them, do better. Let’s get started.

Gambling Tip One: Bankroll

Before going out to gambling you must set limits for yourself. By simply telling yourself how much you can afford to lose and how much you’d like to win, you’ll be ahead of most gamblers. For instance, you might have $100 to lose and you might be willing to stop when you have won $200.

Gambling Tip Two: No Big Six Wheel

The Big Six Wheel is a carnival game that will just suck your money out of your hands. You’ll know this game when you see it. It’s like a standing wheel from the Wheel of Fortune TV show. If you look at the wheel, you’ll see that most of the spaces return even money. Therefore, if you wager on anything else, you’re getting a really bad deal. And there are just enough non-even money spaces to screw you when you wager on the even money spot. You lose either way you play this game. I don’t know if it’s offered online, but if it is, run away.

Gambling Tip Three: Keno is Dinner

Keno was designed to be played while you eat dinner in the casino. Since you can’t gambling while eating, Keno comes to the rescue. However, playing it any other time is somewhat foolish. It’s okay to play for pure fun-if you really love the game. But playing it thinking that you’ll win some big payoff isn’t too wise. Keno is like the lotto expect with much worse payoffs. Many Keno players play while eating or they put in tickets when playing other games, such as poker.

Gambling Tip Four: No Strategy is Foolproof

There is no gambling strategy-other than not playing-that works 100% of the time. Read that again. There are some interesting and fun strategies that can help you have more fun and possible win a little more. In the end, they all fail-yes, all. But don’t take my word for it, go out and play one system for 24 hours at any casino and see how you do. And there’s nothing new under the sun. All the systems being sold as new are just repackages of old systems or they are actually based off of original gambling systems.

Have fun, play smart.

Heart’s Cry Colt Pounces at Nakayama

The progressive Victipharus (Jpn) (Heart's Cry {Jpn}) narrowly secured a first group victory in the G2 Fuji TV Sho Spring S. at Nakayama on Sunday.

Bearing the G1 Racing silks, the 6-1 third choice was floated very wide into the right-handed turn and ended up second last through the early stages. He steadily improved from there with a sustained run up into ninth midway on the second bend and was steered widest of all into the home straight by pilot Ryuji Okubo.

Displaying a stellar set of gears with 200 metres remaining, he passed pacesetter World Revival (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}), as well as the hard charging duo of Asamano Itazura (Jpn) (Victoire Pisa {Jpn}) and 2-1 crowd's pick Boden (Jpn) (Harbinger {GB}). A few jumps from the wire, Victipharus bettered Asamano Itazura, winning by a head with Boden 1 3/4 lengths back in third. World Revival faded to sixth.

A Hanshin newcomer winner in November going this trip, Victipharus was second to Efforia (Jpn) (Epiphaneia {Jpn}) in the G3 Kyodo News Hai at Tokyo on Valentine's Day.

Pedigree Notes
Shadai Stallion Station's Heart's Cry is now the sire of 51 black-type winners and 35 group winners after Victipharus's win. However, the winner is the only black-type winner with Galileo (Ire) as a broodmare sire. The Coolmore Stud supremo's daughters have foaled 191 black-type winners and 103 group winners to date.

The second foal and second winner for his three-time winning dam, Victipharus is the last reported foal for Virginia. The daughter of two-time French Group 3 winner Silverskaya (Silver Hawk) and full-sister to G1 Metropolitan victor and G1 Irish Derby runner-up Seville (Ger) (Galileo {Ire}) was covered by Kitasan Black (Jpn) last spring.
