Tattersalls Launches New Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus For Craven Breeze Up Sale

Owners of 2-year-olds bought at the 2021 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale look set to be rewarded with unprecedented bonuses as Tattersalls launches a new £250,000 (US$346,212) Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus in addition to the lucrative and widely acclaimed £15,000 (US$20,773) Craven Breeze Up Bonus scheme.

The new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus will offer a £125,000 (US$173,108) bonus for the first Craven Breeze Up winner of any of the six 2-year-old races at the Royal Meeting, with £100,000 (US$138,488) being paid to the owner and £25,000 (US$34,622) to the vendor of the horse. An additional £125,000 bonus, with the same £100,000/£25,000 split, will also be paid to the first Craven Breeze Up winner of any of the 15 European Group 1 races open to 2-year-olds, including the all-age Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and the Group 1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp.

Commenting on the new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“The new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus reinforces our commitment not only to the flagship Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale, but also to rewarding owners in as many innovative ways as we can. The £15,000 Craven Breeze Up Bonus immediately captured the imagination of owners and trainers and the new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus further enhances the appeal of a sale which annually produces a consistent flow of high class precocious Royal Ascot two-year-olds as well as Group 1 performers throughout the year. The multiple bonuses will reward numerous owners and in addition, the prospect of an owner winning a £15,000 Craven Breeze Up Bonus, followed by the £125,000 Royal Ascot Bonus and ultimately the £125,000 Group 1 Bonus is also very real.”

Endorsing the new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus, trainer Richard Hannon added;

“We have bought some serious two-year-olds from the Craven Breeze Up with Peter and Ross Doyle over the years and the combination of the new £250,000 Royal Ascot/Group 1 Bonus with the £15,000 Craven Breeze Up Bonus will make it a compelling prospect for our owners. Mehmas springs to mind, although we will have to do better this time. He finished second in the Coventry at Royal Ascot, second in the Group 1 National Stakes and third in the Group 1 Middle Park.”

The 2021 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale will take place April 12-14, with all 2-year-olds breezing on the morning of Monday, April 12 on the Jockey Club Estates' watered gallop at Newmarket's Rowley Mile Racecourse.

‘Rising Star’ Prevalence Eyeing Fountain of Youth

Godolphin's sophomore homebred and 'TDN Rising Star' Prevalence (Medaglia d'Oro), a jaw-dropping debut winner on the GI Pegasus World Cup undercard Jan. 23, breezed Friday morning in anticipation of a possible start in the GII Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth S. at Gulfstream Park Feb. 27.

There is also an optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles in the condition book for Thursday, Feb. 25.

Prevalence went five furlongs in 1:01 (4/6) at Palm Meadows, his second work following his 8 1/2-length maiden special weight triumph.

“He worked good and he galloped out good,” trainer Brendan Walsh said. “We're happy with him. I thought he was a good horse before he ran, but did I expect him to do what he did? Absolutely not, especially one of mine first time out. They generally improve, so I would like to think that this guy has some improvement in him. We won't get too carried away. We'll move on to the next one, and he'll be given plenty of chances to prove himself as we go forward.”

Walsh added, “He ran so well at Gulfstream the last time we would probably like to keep him in something at Gulfstream. There's the Fountain of Youth and there's an allowance race there, as well. It's probably going to be one or the other. We'll just see how he does here over the next few weeks and go from there. We'll let him tell us.”

It’s A Girl! Champion Beholder Delivers Bolt d’Oro Filly At Spendthrift Farm

Multiple Eclipse Award winner Beholder welcomed her fourth foal on Friday morning, when she delivered a filly by Bolt d'Oro at Spendthrift Farm, the operation announced on its social media channels.

The filly follows Beholder's other Spendthrift-homebred foals: Q B One, a 3-year-old Uncle Mo colt who is working toward his debut start; the 2-year-old Curlin filly Karin With an I; and the newly-turned yearling Teena Ella, a filly by War Front.

Bolt d'Oro stands at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., for an advertised fee of $15,000. Beholder's filly hails from his second crop at stud.

The 6-year-old son of Medaglia d'Oro won four of eight starts and earned $1,016,000, highlighted by victories in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity, the G1 FrontRunner Stakes, and the G2 San Felipe Stakes. He also finished in the money in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the G1 Santa Anita Derby.

Beholder, an 11-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes, retired from racing in 2016 after an illustrious career that saw her win 18 of 26 starts with earnings of $6,156,600. She earned Eclipse Awards as the outstanding 2-year-old filly of 2012, 3-year-old filly of 2013, and older female of 2015 and 2016.

Among her 11 Grade 1 victories were three Breeders' Cup triumphs, including the 2012 Juvenile Fillies, and the Distaff in 2013 and 2016. Beholder also scored a memorable win in the 2015 G1 Pacific Classic, facing and defeating males in dominating fashion by 8 1/4-lengths at Del Mar.

‘Team Deal’: Aidan Green Celebrates First Training Win At Oaklawn Park

Aidan Green was holding her 4-month-old and pushing a stroller through the grandstand early Thursday afternoon at Oaklawn. Less than an hour later, Green was strolling into the Larry Snyder Winner's Circle following her first career training victory recognized by Equibase, racing's official data gathering organization.

Green achieved her personal milestone with Kristo ($18.20), who won the fifth race, a starter-allowance route, by 3 ¾ lengths under Elvin Gonzalez. Kristo marked the 21st recognized starter for Green, who saddled her first horse in 2020, according to Equibase. Green's husband, Ike, is a former trainer who now assists his wife and Robertino Diodoro, Oaklawn's leading trainer in 2020. Aidan Green said she has seven horses on the track in training.

“Like Ike and I, we've won a lot of races, it's just the first time it's been under my name, so, it doesn't really feel like a first win,” Green said. “But it's cool to have it under my name now. We've always been a team. We've run Cody Autrey's barn in the past and we've run Robertino's in the past.”

Green, 33, grew up in Canada around the Quarter-Horses and draft horses her family owned. A star volleyball player, Green signed with Texas Tech before transferring to Texas-El Paso, where she was a four-year letterman (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009). Green, also an aspiring photographer, said she met her future husband in 2010 when he was training at Sunland Park in suburban El Paso. They married in 2013 and have three children, 5, 4 and 4 months.

“Team deal, you know,” Aidan Green said. “With three kids and all the horses, Ike and I kind of rotate around, wherever we're both needed. We do it as a team, everything we do. I'm not a full-time photographer. I'd like to be. Full-time mom and then, I guess, second is horse trainer after that.”

Green owns Kristo, a 10-year-old Distorted Humor gelding, with sister-in-law Delinda Green. Ike Green's brother, trainer Greg Green, had claimed Kristo for $8,000 early last year at Sunland Park.

Kristo was exiting a third-place finish in a starter-allowance sprint Jan. 22 at Oaklawn.

“He ran really good his last start,” Green said. “Elvin just gave him a good ride. He kind of picks his certain riders and likes them. He ran really good for Elvin, so we were excited to get in this spot. Thought it was a good one.”

Kristo's victory came roughly seven years after Green said she won a race as an owner/trainer at a weekend fair meet in Fargo, N.D. That victory, Green noted, isn't recognized by Equibase.

“When we were at Canterbury, we shipped over with one that we owned ourselves,” Green said. “They had like tents set up. It was so much fun. This was my first real recognized one, as me as trainer.”

Ike Green unearthed and broke multiple Grade 1 winner and 2018 Triple Crown hopeful Bolt d'Oro when working for former business partner Mick Ruis. Green has 98 career training victories, according to Equibase, the first coming in 2001.
