$323,024 Payoff In Santa Anita Rainbow 6 Jackpot On New Year’s Eve Card

New Year's Eve at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., finished with a bang, as the track's popular 20 cent Single Ticket Rainbow Pick 6 Jackpot was hit for $323,024 as 14-1 longshot Sir Oliver reported home on top by 2 ¾ lengths under Tyler Baze.

Purchased for 20 cents through the Maryland-based Hunt Valley wagering hub, the winning numbers and payoffs on races four through nine were as follows:  R4, (8) $24.80; R5, (5) $31.00; R6, (1) $3.20; R7, (4) $8.20, R8, (3) $10.20 and R9, (10) $30.00.

Today's ninth and final race, a $61,000 maiden special weight at 6 ½ furlongs on turf, attracted a field of 11 three year olds and up and Sir Oliver was the only “live” horse in the Jackpot.  A first-time starter owned by Endeavor Farm, he provided trainer Mike Puype a double on the day and gave Baze a sweep of the late Daily Double.

Racing resumes with a nine-race card on New Year's Day, Friday, at Santa Anita, with first post time at 12:30 p.m.

All of Santa Anita's races are offered free of charge at santaanita.com/live and fans can watch and wager at 1st.com/Bet.

Clean Trip Makes All The Difference For Quattroelle In Blue Norther

Irish-bred Quattroelle unleashed an impressive turn of foot the final three sixteenths of a mile and took Thursday's $75,000 Blue Norther Stakes, Santa Anita's final added money event of the year, by three quarters of a length under Tyler Baze.  Trained by Jeff Mullins, Quattroelle got a flat mile on turf in 1:35.72.

One of three fillies to exit the Grade 3 Jimmy Durante Stakes at Del Mar Nov. 28, Quattroelle saved ground at the rail into the run to the far turn while about five lengths off the lead.  Straightening for home, she angled outside pacesetter Michalska, pinned her ears and held off a stout challenge from favored Javanica to her outside to win in-hand on the wire.

“Her last race, we got kind of got slaughtered a couple of times around the turn, it cost her the race,” said Baze, in reference to Quattroelle's narrow third-place finish in the one mile turf Durante, a race in which Javanica finished second.  “She's a nice filly.  I don't know how good she is, she is just very nice.  She still has a lot of learning.  Once I hit the lead, she was pulling herself up all the way down the lane, really just having fun.”

Off at 3-1 in a field of eight sophomore fillies, Quattroelle paid $8.20, $3.60 and $2.60.

Owned by Red Baron's Barn, LLC and Rancho Temescal, LLC, Quattroelle, who broke her maiden going a mile on turf in her U.S. debut on Oct. 3, picked up $46,920 for the win, increasing her earnings to $94,572.  Two for three with Mullins, she's now 4-2-0-2.

“She ran great and we weren't surprised,” said Mullins.  “She got knocked sideways real bad last time at Del Mar and she should've won.  She's a real hard trying filly and she's done everything we've asked her.”

Ridden by Flavien Prat, Javanica, who was a close third while three-deep turning for home, was off as the 9-5 favorite and paid $3.00 and $2.40 while finishing 1 ¼ lengths clear of Carpe Fortuna.

Off at 5-1 with Mario Gutierrez, Carpe Fortuna paid $3.00 to show.

Fractions on the race were 24.06, 48.18, 1:12.37 and 1:24.21.

Happy New Year! Gulfstream Puts $900,000 Guarantee On Rainbow 6 Jackpot

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $900,000 on Friday's New Year's Day program at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the seventh racing day in a row Thursday, when multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $2,784.24.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $7,107.47.

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Friday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 6-11, including the $75,000 Janus in Race 9, the $75,000 Cash Run in Race 10 and the $75,000 Abundantia in Race 11.

Imprimis, who's stretch bid in the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) was dramatically shut off, is slated to return in the Janus, a five-furlong turf sprint for 4-year-olds and up. The Joe Orseno-trained 7-year-old is 4-for-4 over the Gulfstream turf course. The multiple graded stakes-winning son of Broken Vow has been installed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite over Extravagant Kid, the fourth-place finisher in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint who is rated at 2-1.

Undefeated Shea D Summer will face open company for the first time in the Cash Run, a mile stakes for 3-year-old fillies. The Carlos David-trained daughter of Summer Frost has won her only two starts, including the Juvenile Fillies at Gulfstream Park West, against Florida-bred fillies. Gladys, a full sister to Rachael Alexandra who broke her maiden last time out at Gulfstream Park West, will return in the Cash Run.

Jakarta, who captured the Claiming Crown Distaff Dash last time out, will seek her third victory in as many starts over the Gulfstream turf in the Abundantia, a five-furlong turf sprint for older fillies and mares.

WHO'S HOT:  Trainer Bill Mott and jockey Junior Alvarado teamed for back-to-back victories in Race 5 and 6. Miss Tapirado ($12.40), a 3-year-old daughter of Tapit who cost $1.3 million at auction, captured her turf debut in Race 5, a mile maiden special weight race for fillies and mares. Sir Ollie ($13.40), a son of Quality Road, made a late stretch bid to capture his debut in Race 6, a six-furlong maiden special weight race race for 2-year-olds.

Alvarado, who has returned to winter at Gulfstream for the first time in several years, came right back to win Race 7 aboard John Kimmel-trained Unicorn Sally ($12) and won Race 8 for Mott with New York Girl ($6.20), a 3-year-old, Irish-bred daughter of New Approach making her U.S. debut.
