Son of Rest, fourth for Fozzy Stack in the G1 National S. at two, won a pair of races the following season before finishing third in the G2 Flying Five S. At four, he returned in the Flying Five to finish a close-up second and later landed the Ary Gold Cup. Bred by Cheveley Park Stud, he is from the family of Champion 2-year-old Forest Flower.

“Son Of Rest is absolutely gorgeous, a magnificent horse,” added McCathy. “He stands about 16.2h and is a great stamp of a horse..He retired sound.”

Also standing at Meelin Stud this season, Flash Gordon, who was trained by Jessica Harrington, placed in the G3 Lacken S. and Listed Tetrarch S. at three and also placed in the 2020 Sprint S. at Naas. A 220,000gns yearling, he is out of juvenile winner Oasis Sunset, who is a half-sister to Champion juvenile and G1 Cheveley Park S. scorer Seazun (Zietan). The 5-year-old is from the family of G2 Molecomb S. winners Brown Sugar and Classic Ruler as well as Champion 2-year-old Toormore.

“Flash Gordon is a gorgeous, very athletic horse,” he continued. “He is a Group 2-placed son of Kodiac that won first time out. He cost 220,000gns as a yearling and is obviously a good-looking horse. He is a great walking horse and stands about 16h.”

Goffs UK Doncaster January Catalogue Online

Goffs UK has released the catalogue for the first of two parts of its Doncaster January Sale. Part 1 will be a timed online breeding stock and horses in training sale with 89 horses on Jan. 26 and for which the catalogue is now online. Part 2 will be a physical sale of National Hunt short yearlings at Doncaster on Feb. 17, with the catalogue to be released at a later date.

Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “We were all hopeful that we could start off 2021 with a January Sale held on its scheduled date at our Doncaster Sales Complex but new restrictions have meant that is not possible. Taking into account that mares are in-foal or are soon to be covered, we wanted to assist breeders and facilitate an outlet for them and hence we have turned to our proven and user-friendly online platform to offer these mares along with the horses-in-training. Goffs have demonstrated that online sales can be very effective and that, along with the superb support received from breeders, owners and trainers who have sent us some outstanding horses, gives us confidence that we can conduct another successful online sale.

“This catalogue will be online only, there will be no printed catalogues, and we encourage prospective buyers to keep an eye on their desired lots on Goffs Online as we receive photos, videos, vet certificates, pregnancy and breeding certificates etc. in the build up to the sale.”

Bill Filed In Kentucky To Allow Sports Wagering, Awaits Committee Assignment

Kentucky legislators will get another chance to consider whether they want to permit sports wagering in the state after giving the notion a relatively chilly reception last year. According to The Blood-Horse, Rep. Adam Koenig (R-Erlanger) introduced a bill on Jan. 9 that would permit sports wagering at racetracks and Kentucky Speedway, with regulatory oversight falling under the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

Online sports betting and online poker would also become allowed under the legislation.

Sports wagering is currently permitted in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Kentucky's legislature has been considerably less eager to expand gambling in the state in any way.

Similar legislation last year was discussed at the committee level and approved but was not entertained on the House floor. This year's bill is awaiting assignment to a legislative committee for consideration.

Kentucky's horse racing industry still awaits a legislative fix to legality issues with historic horse racing which has already been in force in the state and provided revenue the sport has relied upon in recent years.
