$265,042 Early Pick 5 Carryover At Aqueduct On Saturday

The Early Pick 5, covering the first five races of every card at NYRA tracks, went unsolved on Friday, resulting in a carryover of $265,042.64 when live racing resumes on Saturday at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park, N.Y.

Multiple big-priced winners on Friday's eight-race card helped start the action at the Big A, with 73-1 longshot Gratto Swing kicking the day off with a half-length victory in Race 1. The Edmund Pringle trainee outkicked Me 'n Sap to win the six-furlong maiden sprint, returning $148.50 on a $2 win wager.

Ridden by Benjamin Hernandez, the payout was the highest of the Aqueduct winter meet on its 16th day. Brandolino returned $120 for winning Race 2 on December 11, marking the meet's previous highest payout.

Flashndynamite, off at 7-1, won a one-mile allowance tilt in Race 2, paying $16. Trained by Michael Moore and piloted by meet-leading rider Kendrick Carmouche, Flashndynamite rallied from fourth to outkick Kansas Kis.

Reed Kan paid $5.50 for toping a five-horse field in Race 3. Conditioned by Mertkan Kantarmaci, Reed Kan saw Hernandez notch his second win, capturing the six-furlong claiming race.

Baba, off at odds of 26-1 in the one-mile maiden contest in Race 4, paid $54, edging 3-1 Coal Shaft by a head to win for trainer Tom Albertrani. Jorge Vargas, Jr. was the victorious jockey in leading Baba for her first win in five career starts.

Jackie Milton, a 4-1 selection, capped the Early Pick 5 with her victory in the seven-furlong claiming race. Trained by Wayne Potts and ridden by Pablo Morales, Jackie Milton returned $10.20.

Saturday's Early Pick 5 will begin with the opening race with a post time of 12:20 p.m.

No Winners In Friday’s Stronach 5, $97,891 Carryover To Jan. 22

The Stronach 5 will have a carryover of $97,891.79 Jan. 22 after there were no winning tickets in Friday's popular wager.

The Stronach 5, with an industry-low 12-percent takeout and featuring races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, started with a bang Friday when Step by Step won the opening leg and the eighth race at Laurel and returned $54.

That longshot was followed up by Katniss Kas ($17.20) winning Gulfstream's eighth race and the second leg of the Stronach 5 and Spanish d'Oro ($20.20) winning Laurel's ninth race and third leg of the sequence.

The Stronach 5 moved to California for the last two legs. Bang for Your Bucks ($23.60) won Santa Anita's third race before Colavito ($9.20) took the final leg and third race from Golden Gate.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.

Shancelot Available For Inspection At Buck Pond Farm On January 22

Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Shancelot, whose 121 Beyer Speed Figure in winning the G2 Amsterdam Stakes was the highest ever recorded for a 3-year-old sprinter, will be available for inspection at Buck Pond Farm in Versailles, Ky. on Friday, Jan. 22.

The open house is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Chili and desserts will be served. Those in attendance will have the opening to register for a chance at a free season to Shancelot.

Raced by Crawford Farms Racing, Shancelot won or placed in all six career starts while earning $624,300.

In addition to his history-making 12 1/2 length romp in the Amsterdam Stakes, Shancelot placed in the G1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes and was runner-up in the G1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes and Breeders' Cup Sprint.

By champion 2-year-old colt Shanghai Bobby, Shancelot is one of four stakes horses for the stakes-winning mare True Kiss. That mare is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Silver Max and a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 winner and successful sire Yes It's True.

Shancelot will stand at Buck Pond Farm in 2021 for a stud fee of $7,500 LFSN.

Rainbow 6 Jackpot Pool Guaranteed At $600,000 Saturday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool will be guaranteed at $600,000 Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the fourth racing day in a row following last Saturday's mandatory payout. Multiple tickets with five of six winners were each worth $1,235.24 Friday

The jackpot pool is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday's Rainbow 6 sequence will span Races 7-12, including four $75,000 Sunshine Stakes for Florida-breds that offer $25,000 win-only bonuses for horses Florida Sire Stakes-eligible starters.

A mile maiden special weight race for 3-year-olds on turf will kick off the sequence in Race 7. The Sunshine Filly and Mare Turf, a 1 1/16-mile turf event for older fillies and mares, follows in Race 8, featuring multiple graded stakes-placed Kelsey's Cross in a well-balanced field of nine.

Noble Drama is scheduled to defend his title in the Sunshine Classic, a 1 1/8-mile race for older state-breds, in Race 9. The 7-5 morning-line favorite may prove to be a popular Rainbow 6 'single' with many bettors.

Extravagant Kid has also been installed as the 7-5 morning-line favorite for his title defense in the Sunshine Sprint, a six-furlong dash for older horses carded as Race 10. The versatile Brendan Walsh-trained gelding, who was beaten by a length while finishing fourth in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1) last time out, captured the 2020 Sunshine Sprint by 2 ¾ lengths. Mark Casse-trained Proven Strategies, who captured the Toronto Cup at Woodbine last time out and Danny Gargan-trained Venezuelan Hug, winner of the Sunshine Turf Preview at Gulfstream Park West, are among the top contenders for the Sunshine Turf, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for older horses carded as Race 11. A full field of $16,000 claimers will contest Race 12, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for older horses.

There will also be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $5,724.55 heading into Saturday's program.
