New INS Students Announced for 2021

The students for the 2021 Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Management course have been revealed, with 24 students representing seven countries set to take part. The class begins at the County Kildare stud in January 2021. The students are as follows: Patrick Campion (USA), Shea Connolly (Ireland), Marianne Gay (France), Hortense Huet (France), Suzanne Hyland (Ireland), Sarah Kelly (Ireland), Eathan Leonard (Ireland), Conor Mahon (Ireland), Olivia Marnane (Ireland), Hannah Moriarty (USA), Alexis Navet (France), Mairead O’Riordan (Ireland), George Prince (UK), Lauren Robinson (Ireland), Mehdi Saci (France), Jake Scott Campbell (Ireland), Ben Shoare (UK), Charlie Sweeney (Ireland), Niamh Walshe (Ireland), Elinor Wolf (USA), Normarie Santiago (Puerto Rico) recipient of the Gerry Dilger Equine Scholarship, Nathan Trumper (New Zealand) recipient of the NZTBA scholarship, Lachlan Pethica (Australia) and Alyssa Pickles (Australia) recipients of the Thoroughbred Breeders Australia, Basil Nolan Jr. scholarship.

“The 24 students were selected through a rigorous and thorough application process and this year’s class comprises of a remarkable and accomplished group of individuals,” said INS Education Development Manager Anne Channon. “2021 is going to be an exciting year for the I.N.S as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the programme, our community of over 1,200 graduates spans over 30 countries an achievement that we are

all very proud of.”

Haras de Colleville Releases Roster

The fees for Haras de Colleville’s three stallions have been announced, with Goken (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}) receiving a sharp increase to €15,000 from €3,000. The first-season sire is already responsible for two Group 3 winners-Livachope (Fr) and Go Athletico (Fr), as well as the MGSP Axdavali (Fr). Next is Galiway (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), who has sired G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere hero Sealiway (Fr) from his second crop, at €12,000. Sealiway will compete at the Breeders’ Cup on Friday in Lexington. The sire of four black-type winners, Galiway was €10,000 in 2020. Rounding out the stallions is veteran Kendargent (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}), the sire of 32 black-type winners, who will command €10,000, down from €15,000, in 2020. He is the sire this term’s G2 Prix Dollar winner Skalleti, who ran second in the G1 Champion S. on British Champions day. The trio are available on live foal terms excluding VAT.

NTWAB Pleges $5,000 To Diversity-Focused Legacy Equine Academy

The National Turf Writers And Broadcasters pledged $5,000 to the Lexington, Ky.-based Legacy Equine Academy Inc., a unique program that allows African American and racially diverse Middle and High School students the unique opportunity to build life skills while learning horsemanship through exposure to the many opportunities on farms and in the horse racing industry.

The donation comes in light of the NTWAB's decision to cancel what would have been the 61st annual Awards Dinner held in advance of the upcoming Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland Race Course.

The NTWAB annually makes donations of a similar cumulative amounts to charities in the names of its award winners and encourages other industry organizations and stakeholders to support the Legacy Equine Academy, which has already partnered with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture Dean's office, Kentucky Community and Technical College, Midway College, Fayette County Public Schools along with many other equine related enthusiasts in the corporate community.

“The NTWAB officers and board voted unanimously in the spring and gained the support of its general membership at our meeting prior to the Kentucky Derby to make a significant, one-time donation to a group that benefits both the industry and the community,” said Tom Law, NTWAB President and Managing Editor of ST Publishing Inc. “We hope this donation helps and can open doors to a segment of the community that is not only underrepresented in the racing industry but also in possession of great potential to improve the game on many levels. We could not be more proud to support an organization like the Legacy Equine Academy.”

Through its relationship with Fayette County Public Schools, the Legacy Equine Academy recruits students who are then tagged as a “Legacy Leaders” at the Middle School level. Academy members then identify the targeted students interested in the equine industry and works to ensure their candidacy for Locust Trace multi-level curriculum during their High School years, creating a pipeline toward developing future farm and racing industry professionals.

“We are so appreciative of the NTWAB for its support and advocacy of our mission,” said Ron Mack, founder and director of the Legacy Equine Academy. “We look to continue to create a pathway and a pipeline for young people into the equine industry.”

The NTWAB, which consists of more than 180 professional racing journalists, plans to resume celebrating the industry and its participants at its 61st Awards Dinner prior to the 2021 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Del Mar.

Tattersalls Confirms December Sales To Take Place As Scheduled

Tattersalls is pleased to confirm that in accordance with government regulations concerning livestock and horse auctions, the forthcoming Tattersalls December Sales will take place in Newmarket as scheduled starting on Monday, Nov. 23 and concluding on Thursday, Dec. 3.

The Tattersalls December Yearling Sale will take place Monday, Nov. 23, followed by the four-day Tattersalls December Foal Sale from Wednesday, Nov 25 – Saturday, Nov. 28. The sale will as ever conclude with the four-day Tattersalls December Mares Sale which will take place Monday, Nov. 30 – Thursday, Dec. 3.

Commenting on the confirmed dates, Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said;

“We are delighted and relieved that we have received clarity on this crucial issue and it is clear that the ratified government regulations will allow us to stage the full Tattersalls December Sale on the originally scheduled dates. This is a huge relief for the industry and we are enormously grateful that the 2020 bloodstock sales season in Britain can proceed and conclude as planned. The Tattersalls December Sale is an event of global significance within the bloodstock industry and the possibility of wholesale disruption was a deeply worrying prospect for all concerned.

“As we all know, staging bloodstock sales in 2020 has been challenging to say the least. To be able to hold the Tattersalls December Sales on the scheduled dates will be universally welcomed and applauded not only in Britain and Ireland, but by the wider bloodstock industry and we will continue to do our utmost to bring the testing 2020 Tattersalls sales season to as successful a conclusion as possible.”

The December Sales will be conducted under strict COVID-19 related protocols and attendance will be restricted only to those professionally involved in the sale. Professional participants should submit the official online Medical Declaration Forms to Tattersalls well in advance of the sale and the relevant form will be available on www.tattersalls.com. Live internet bidding and telephone bidding through members of the Tattersalls team will again be available for buyers unable to attend the sale in person and buyers should register online with Tattersalls in advance of the sale.
