Gulfstream Park West Rainbow 6 Hit For $249,204

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 was solved Sunday at Gulfstream Park West in Miami Gardens, Fla., for a jackpot payoff of $249,204.

The popular multi-race wager went unsolved for the first 11 racing days of the Fall Turf Festival before a single unique ticket was purchased with the 3-8-6-8-7-13 winning combination Sunday.

Galit Jak ($4,60) kicked off the Rainbow 6 sequence in Race 4, followed by Myfirstexwife ($64.40), Running for Riz ($32.60), I Get It ($19.20), She's All Woman ($6.40). Shendam ($9.20), one of nine 'live' horses in a 12-horse field, completed the jackpot-winning ticket.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day's pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

The Rainbow 6 will start anew Wednesday.

There will be a Super Hi-5 carryover of $2,342,35 heading into Wednesday's program.

Miss Auramet Makes Triumphant Return to Gulfstream West
Miss Auramet made a triumphant return to Gulfstream Park West Sunday, validating her 3-5 favoritism with a thoroughly professional 1 1/2-length triumph in the Race 3 feature, a five-furlong optional claiming allowance for fillies and mares on turf.

The Eddie Plesa Jr.-trained 4-year-old filly, who spent a productive summer in the Mid-Atlantic with trainer Jorge Duarte Jr., won her seventh race in 16 career starts while capturing her third-straight victory. The daughter of Uncaptured, who is owned by Laurie Plesa, Leon Ellman and David Melin, was coming off back-to-back off-the-turf victories at Delaware Park and Laurel Park.

Miss Auramet pressed the pace set by Hear My Prayer, who cut fractions of 21.96 and 44.68 seconds for the first half-mile, before drawing away in the stretch to compete the five furlongs over a 'good' course in 57.50 seconds under Edgard Zayas.

Prior to shipping out of town, the versatile Miss Auramet had scored three-straight victories, two on turf and one on a sloppy main track, during Gulfstream Park's Championship Meet.

Early Sunday morning, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing's Isolate breezed six furlongs in 1:13 at Gulfstream Park in preparation for a likely stakes start next time out.

The Kathy Ritvo-trained 2-year-old son of Mark Valeski is undefeated in two very impressive starts, including a Aug. 6 debut victory in which he won going away after being checked hard in traffic on the turn into the homestretch. Third-place finisher Poppy's Pride came back to break his maiden by 8 ¼ lengths and capture the off-the-turf Armed Forces Stakes.

Isolate did just that in his second start Sept. 12, scoring by 10 lengths while running six furlongs in 1:10.97.

Paco Lopez Back in Action at GPW Wednesday
Jockey Paco Lopez, who, like Miss Auramet, spend a productive summer in the Mid-Atlantic, is slated to make his 2020 debut at Gulfstream Park West Wednesday.

Lopez, who celebrated his 35th birthday Sunday, has been named to ride in five races Wednesday. The Veracruz, Mexico, native, who won his seventh riding title at Monmouth Park this year, captured the 2019 riding title at Gulfstream Park West while riding full time there.

Say The Word Closes Late For Northern Dancer Turf Stakes Victory

Smooth sailing and a stellar steer from Emma-Jayne Wilson put the exclamation point on a primetime performance by Say the Word in the $340,200 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes (G1), presented by Pattison, Sunday at Woodbine in Toronto, Ontario.

Sent off at 5-1, Say the Word, bred and owned by Sam-Son Farm, and trained by Gail Cox, struck front in the late going and fended off a deep stretch surge from Sir Sahib to claim victory in the 1 1/2-mile marathon run over a “good” E.P. Taylor Turf Course.

It was slight mutuel favorite Admiralty Pier who swept to the front soon after the gates opened, with the son of English Channel, under Steve Bahen, leading his rivals into the first turn. Peace of Ekati took up residence in second spot, with Jungle Fighter and Count Again (Say the Word's Sam-Son farm stablemate) sitting in third and fourth, respectively. Say the Word and Wilson were eighth and last.

Admiralty Pier, who took his seven rivals through an opening quarter-mile in :25.25, was still calling the shots after a half-mile clocked in :51.57. Peace of Ekati remained second, while Jungle Fighter and Count Again matched strides 1 1/2 lengths further back.

It was status quo on the front end after 1 1/4 miles, as Say the Word still waited for the word from Wilson.

As the field rounded the turn, Say the Word was given his cue from Wilson and the duo launched their bid on the far outside, as Admiralty Pier clung to a head advantage with challengers beginning to shorten his lead.

Seventh at the stretch call, Say the Word began to methodically pick off his rivals one-by-one, eventually taking over the lead but then quickly tasked with fending off a late-charging Sir Sahib.

At the wire, Say the Word was one length in front of Sir Sahib, while Admiralty Pier finished a head in front of Count Again for third spot.

The final time was 2:29.87.

“It was perfect actually,” said Wilson, who won the 2015 Northern Dancer with 10-1 longshot Interpol. “The first time I rode him, Gail let me know that Junior Alvarado from Saratoga had said that he was funny with his mouth, he could be a little sensitive and to trip him [out] in a certain sort of way. Last time [in the G3 Singspiel Stakes], we got the one-hole going a mile and a quarter, and I just got shuffled back. It took me a bit to just kind of get on the same page with him last time, being as sensitive as he was. I mean, he ran well, he ran third, but he was coming on end.

“So today, I was more confident with him, more ground and I knew where the line was with him for my hands and give and take. He settled for me beautifully; I literally just held the mane for pretty much the first mile and a quarter. Then as I gathered him up, I knew…I just knew. He was gaining on them last time and I just knew when he straightened, he was already in flight and it was going to be tough to beat him.”

Wilson also had high praise for Alvarado.

“And if it wasn't for the other jock's advice and what he knew of him … it's a community thing. If Junior doesn't pass that message onto Gail … it's a team effort. Yes, we're jockeys and we're in competition, but also, he wants to see the horse do well as well. Kudos, Junior; I appreciate it.”

Cox, in the midst of a strong campaign, was thrilled with the outcome.

“I think this horse kind of likes to know the people that he's with, so he's not one that's easy to shift around all the time. He also loves this turf course and he loved the distance. Last year, he was sent to me and we ran him on the Tapeta, and it was not to his liking.”

The E.P. Taylor Turf Course, however, is quite a different story.

An Ontario-bred, Say the Word came into the Northern Dancer off a tough third-place finish, one that saw the dark bay flying late, in the 1 1/4-mile Singspiel Stakes (G3T) on Sept. 19 at Woodbine.

This time, the 5-year-old son of More Than Ready was just that.

A now five-time winner from 25 starts, Say the Word, who contested two-thirds (Queen's Plate and Breeders' Stakes) of the 2018 Canadian Triple Crown, notched his first added-money win in taking the Northern Dancer.

Say the Word paid $13.60, $5.80 and $3.90. The 1-3 exactor with Sir Sahib ($5.40, $3) returned $78.30. Admiralty Pier completed a 1-3-7 triactor worth $364, with fourth-place Count Again completing a $1 superfecta (1-3-7-8) worth $532.55.

Siyouni’s Etoile Holds On in E. P. Taylor

Etoile, a beaten favorite in her two prior North American starts after being transferred to Chad Brown, came through with a victory in Sunday’s GI E.P. Taylor S. at Woodbine, giving red-hot Siyouni (Fr) another top-level success in the same Peter Brant colors as that stallion’s G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero Sottsass (Fr).

Two-for-two to open her account for Jean-Claude Rouget last winter at Cagnes-sur-Mer, the bay was a neck runner-up in Longchamp’s G3 Prix Vanteaux before annexing the G3 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud. A close fourth in the G1 Prix de Diane Longines at Chantilly, she was off the board in her last two French outings and disappointed when eighth at 17-10 in the GI Gamely S. May 20 after being bought for over $1 million at Tattersalls December. Second in the local GII Dance Smartly S. Aug. 15, she was made one of three 5-2 chances here and tracked from third past soft splits of :26.44 and :51.03. Moving up a spot as the pace quickened a touch through three-quarters in 1:15.50, she drew on even terms past the five-sixteenths and drifted wide off the turn. Blowing by tiring pacesetter Theodora B. outside the furlong grounds, she kicked clear before just holding 41-1 bomber Court Return on the wire.

“It was a good trip,” said local winning rider Rafael Hernandez, who was riding his meet-leading 12th stakes winner. “I called Chad this morning and he told me, ‘Raffi, try to get a good trip like last time. Just make sure you clear down the stretch. He told me he’d been working the horse a few times and he put her outside of other horses, and she’d been finishing great. I heard that other horse coming late but I wish she was coming closer. It was too far out so my horse couldn’t see. That’s why I switched the whip to the left, to try to get her out and get her attention. But we did it.”

Pedigree Notes:

Etoile becomes the 43rd stakes winner, 24th graded stakes winner and sixth Grade I/Group 1 scorer for Aga Khan Studs’ Siyouni. She is his first North American Grade I winner. Her third dam Navratilovna was a GSW in France. Her dam has a juvenile filly by Lethal Force (Ire) named Arletta (Fr) and a yearling Dabirsim (Fr) filly.
