Grade 1 Winner Lady Prancealot To Be Offered At Keeneland November Sale

Grade 1 winner Lady Prancealot, who was third in the Sept. 26 Grade 1 Rodeo Drive at Santa Anita, will be offered as a racing or broodmare prospect during the premier Book 1 of Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale on Nov. 9.

Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, will consign the 4-year-old daughter of Sir Prancealot, who has earned more than $640,000 while competing against the best of her division.

Lady Prancealot's connections all praise the filly for her talent and consistency.

“She's been unbelievably sound,” co-owner Michael Iavarone said. “She hasn't missed a beat. She's pretty much taken us everywhere we wanted to go.”

“Lady Prancealot has taken our partners on a great ride,” said Phillip Shelton, racing manager of co-owner Medallion Racing. “She won our first graded stakes at Keeneland in the G3 Pin Oak Valley View before going on to win the G1 American Oaks. We formed our partnership to have fillies like her and count ourselves lucky that she shows up every time.”

“Lady Prancealot has been unlucky this year,” trainer Richard Baltas said. “She has run big races but never gets any pace to run at. She's all class and just needs some speed up front to get her back in the winner's circle at the top level.”

“Lady Prancealot represents a great opportunity to race or breed in 2021,” said Mark Taylor, Taylor Made's vice president of marketing and public sales operations. “Her race potential speaks for itself, and her female family has been consistently producing top-class horses on both sides of the Atlantic for the last 50 years.”

Lady Prancealot began her career in England, where she was first, second or third in her initial three starts. She arrived in the U.S. and was second in her first two races, the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf and Surfer Girl at Santa Anita. Those performances earned the Southern California-based filly a start in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs.

In 2019, Lady Prancealot faced a number of division standouts, winning the G3 Honeymoon at Santa Anita and finishing third to Grade 1 winner Cambier Parc in the G1 Del Mar Oaks Presented by The Jockey Club. Sent to the East Coast, she contested the rich Jockey Club Oaks Invitational at Belmont Park.

During Keeneland's Fall Meet, Lady Prancealot captured the 1 1/16-mile G3 Pin Oak Valley View by three-quarters of a length. That performance set her up for a triumphant return home, where she was the 8-5 favorite for the prestigious G1 American Oaks at Santa Anita and won by a half-length.

This year, Lady Prancealot has competed in Grade 1 and Grade 2 competition in Southern California with a runner-up finish in Del Mar's G2 John C. Mabee on Sept. 5 and a third in the aforementioned Rodeo Drive.

“What differentiates her is she has an explosive turn of foot,” Iavarone said. “I love horses that have that style. You think she has no chance, and all of a sudden here she comes out of nowhere. Horses like that really make the heart beat. They're really exciting. She never not shows up. She puts in her run every single time.”

Lady Prancealot has an international pedigree with winning connections in the U.S. and abroad. Also representing her sire, Sir Prancealot, is Beau Recall, who recently won the G2 Churchill Distaff Turf Mile for the second consecutive year to increase her earnings to more than $1.4 million. In August, another daughter, Irish-bred 2-year-old Miss Amulet, took the G2 Sky Bet Lowther at York in England and is considered a top performer in her division.

In the U.S., Sir Prancealot also is represented by Grade 2 winner Madam Dancealot and Keeneland's 2019 Limestone Turf Sprint winner, Ginger Nut.

Lady Prancealot's female family features several successful international runners. Among them are Shadwell Stable's homebred Almanaar, a Group 3 winner in France who became a Grade 1 winner in the U.S. and has competed in the Breeders' Cup World Championships; and Almanaar's dam, Baqah, a Group 2 winner in France and a Group 1-placed runner in England.

“Keeneland is very pleased to offer Lady Prancealot in the November Sale, which is a key source of bloodstock for buyers from around the world,” Keeneland President-Elect and Interim Head of Sales Shannon Arvin said. “Lady Prancealot has a special connection to Keeneland through her victory in the Pin Oak Valley View, and we will be excited to see her in the sales ring.”

Final Preakness Work for Derby Winner Authentic

Authentic (Into Mischief), winner of the Sept. 5 GI Kentucky Derby, worked for the final time prior to the Oct. 3 GI Preakness S. with a four-furlong move in :47.60 at Churchill Downs Monday morning. The Bob Baffert trainee recorded splits of :12.20, :24, and :36, then galloped out five furlongs in 1:00 and three-quarters in 1:13.40. Jockey Martin Garcia was aboard for the 7:30 a.m. move.

“He’s such an amazing horse,” Garcia said following the work. “He worked awesome. I’ve worked a lot of nice horses for trainer Bob Baffert in California and this horse is just as special. He’s doing amazing for the Preakness.”

Baffert was on hand to watch Authentic’s work. The Derby winner is scheduled to fly from Louisville to Baltimore on Tuesday.

Owned by the partnership of Spendthrift Farm LLC, MyRaceHorse Stable, Madaket Stables LLC, and Starlight Racing, Authentic won the GI TVG.com Haskell S. in his start just prior to the Derby. He sports a record of 6-5-1-0 with his only career loss coming at the hands of Honor A. P. (Honor Code), who has since been retired, in the GI Runhappy Santa Anita Derby.

Derby fifth-place finisher Max Player (Honor Code) also worked Monday at Churchill, getting four furlongs in :49.80 in preparation for the Preakness. Owned by George Hall and SportBLX Thoroughbreds, GIII Withers S. winner Max Player was third in both the GI Belmont S. and the GI Runhappy Travers S. He is trained by Steve Asmussen.

Brown Stablemates Viadera And Blowout Could Face Off Again In Grade 1 Matriarch

Trainer Chad Brown reported that his one two-finishers of Saturday's Grade 3 Noble Damsel, Viadera and Blowout, both emerged from their efforts in good shape and will likely square off once more in the Grade 1, $300,000 Matriarch on November 29 at Del Mar.

Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Viadera notched her second stakes victory in her third start in the United States in the one mile test over the Widener turf, where she was placed at the rear of the field early on, saved ground to the inside and prevailed to get up at the right time by a neck under jockey Joel Rosario.

“He rode a really good race,” said Brown, who secured a fifth straight victory in the Noble Damsel. “He was able to save some ground and she was able to get up at the last jump.”

Rosario also piloted Brown-trained Off Limits (2017) and Uni (2018) to Noble Damsel triumphs, both of whom won the Matriarch at the end of their respective years.

Viadera, a 4-year-old bay daughter of Bated Breath, arrived at the Noble Damsel off a narrow victory in the De La Rose on July 17 at Saratoga, where she defeated stable mate Noor Sahara (fourth in the Noble Damsel) by a neck. A victory in the Matriarch would give Juddmonte Farms a record seventh triumph in the race after previously winning with champions Ryafan (1997), Heat Haze (2003), and Intercontinental (2004).

But it was Blowout who Brown said impressed him the most. Peter Brant's consistent daughter of Dansili out of Group 1 winner Beauty Parlour set torrid fractions on the front end, and the favorite still had enough left to hang on for second.

“Those were just insane fractions,” Brown said. “It showed the heart and the talent that she has to nearly still pull it off. It was remarkable to me. I was most impressed with her. Both horses ran terrific and so far, they look good. If they do well this next month, we'll point them both to the Matriarch.”

Never off the board and never beaten more than three-quarters of a length in 10 lifetime starts, Blowout is still in search of her first graded stakes win but scored triumphs in the Wild Applause last June and the Pebbles last September going one mile over the Widener turf.

“She's very consistent,” Brown said. “She's been very unlucky in a couple of her losses, but she's a developing horse with a lot of ability and super well-bred as well. I'll believe she'll have her day winning a graded stakes.”

Earlier on the card Brown saddled the Brant-owned American West to a debut victory going a one-turn mile over the Belmont main track, where she earned a 65 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort. The juvenile daughter of Curlin is out of stakes placed Jacaranda, who is a half-sister to leading second crop sire Constitution.

“She came out of the race well, we'll talk to Peter Brant about what we'll do with her and just see how she trains,” Brown said.

Bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stable, American West was purchased for $925,000 from the Mill Ridge Sales consignment at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Gaffalione, Asmussen Capture September Meet Titles At Churchill Downs

Jockey Tyler Gaffalione has been riding at Churchill Downs since the 2018 Fall Meet and, at the start of racing on Sunday for closing day of the September Meet, the 26-year-old Florida-native has already secured his third leading rider title of his young career.

Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen held an insurmountable lead, 11 wins to 7 over Brad Cox in the trainer standings, while owner Richard Rigney will battle for the title Sunday amongst a flurry of pursuers.

Gaffalione, who began riding fulltime at Churchill Downs six meets ago, began Sunday eight wins in front of Ricardo Santana Jr., 20-12. Represented by Florida-based agent Matt Muzikar, Gaffalione plans to ride at Keeneland for the next three weeks before the Churchill Downs Fall Meet. This was Gaffalione's second leading rider title in the month of September. He also won the crown at the six-day Kentucky Downs meet.

“It's pretty awesome having the leading title associated with you,” Gaffalione said. “It's been a short but fun meet. I'm very thankful for all of the opportunities that were given to me.”

In the trainer standings, Cox held the early lead over Asmussen following a six-win Kentucky Derby Week but Asmussen took over the proceedings when the September Meet restarted Sept. 17. This is Asmussen's record-extending 24th leading trainer title beneath the historic Twin Spires.

In the owner's standings, Rigney's Rigney Racing was in a tie atop the rankings at the start of Sunday's 10-race program with Gary and Mary West. Rigney had two entries in Races 3 and 10 while the Wests did not have any entered. Three ownership groups with two wins have the opportunity to tie Rigney and the Wests: Albaugh Family Stables (one entry, Race 1); Allied Racing Stable (one entry, Race 9); and Juddmonte Farm (one entry, Race 4).

Sunday's card at Churchill Downs had a first post of 12:45 p.m. There were mandatory payouts in all wagers but no carryovers as the Single 6 Jackpot was hit twice in the last two racing days. Following Sunday's program, racing in the Commonwealth will move to Keeneland from Oct. 2-24.

The Churchill Downs Fall Meet will run from Oct. 25-Nov. 29. There will be a two-day break on Nov. 6-7 for the Breeders' Cup at Keeneland. For more information, visit www.churchilldowns.com.
