Tiz The Law Expected Favorite For Pool 6 Of Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Sackatoga Stable's multiple Grade I winner Tiz the Law has been at the top of the Kentucky Derby standings for nearly 10 months and is the expected favorite in Pool 6 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (“KDFW”), which will run Friday to Sunday.

Pool 6 of the KDFW will run concurrently with Pool 2 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. In addition to Win and Exacta betting, an Oaks/Derby Future Double is part of the wagering menu. The wagers will open Friday at noon (all times Eastern) and the KDFW will close Sunday at 6 p.m. while the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will close 30 minutes later at 6:30 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (GI) and $3 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) were postponed to the first Friday and Saturday in September, respectively. This weekend's Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will be the final opportunity to wager on the race prior to the Sept. 4 Kentucky Oaks while the KDFW will offer an additional pool on Aug. 7-9.

Veteran odds maker Mike Battaglia has installed Tiz the Law as the 5-2 morning line favorite out of 24 betting interests in Pool 6 of the KDFW. Trained by Barclay Tagg, Tiz the Law has been one of the top individual betting favorites in each of the first five pools of the KDFW. So far, the highest odds that Tiz the Law offered was 11-1 in Pool 1. In the last four pools, he closed at odds of 8-1, 7-1, 7-1 and 2-1, respectively. Tiz the Law is expected to have one additional prep race prior to the Kentucky Derby in the $1 million Travers Stakes (GI) on Aug. 8 at Saratoga.

One of the other horses that is likely take betting interest is Bruce Lunsford's $600,000 Blue Grass (GII) winner Art Collector. Trained by Tommy Drury, Art Collector went off at 20-1 in Pool 5 of the KDFW, which closed three weeks prior to his Blue Grass victory. Art Collector solidified his spot in the starting gate for the Kentucky Derby and currently sits at No. 4 on the leaderboard with 100 points.

Other top betting interests in Pool 6 of the KDFW include C R K Stable's $400,000 Santa Anita Derby (GI) hero Honor A.P. (5-1); Karl Watson, Michael Pegram and Paul Weitman's late Triple Crown nominee Uncle Chuck (10-1); and Spendthrift Farm, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stables' Santa Anita Derby runner-up Authentic (10-1).

Seven betting interests in Pool 6 of the KDFW were not offered in Pool 5: Attachment Rate (50-1); Dean Martini (50-1); Major Fed (50-1); Modernist (50-1); Shared Sense (30-1); South Bend (50-1); and Storm the Court (50-1). This is the first pool that Attachment Rate, Dean Martini and Shared Sense have been offered and the first time since Pool 1 that South Bend has been offered.

Dean Martini, Rushie and Shared Sense are not currently nominated to the Kentucky Derby but can become eligible with a $45,000 late payment due at the time of entry.

In the Oaks Future Wager, top 3-year-old fillies Gamine (9-5) and Swiss Skydiver (3-1) are expected to take much of the betting attention in the field of 24 interests.

Gamine, trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert and owned by Michael Petersen, scored a dazzling 18 ¾-length victory in the $300,000 Acorn (GI). The undefeated daughter of Into Mischief has been highly regarded since her debut in early March and defeated eventual $400,000 Ashland (GI) winner Speech two starts ago in a first-level allowance event at Oaklawn Park.

Gamine could clash with Peter Callahan's three-time graded stakes winner Swiss Skydiver on the first Friday in September. Trained by Kenny McPeek, Swiss Skydiver was the runner-up behind Art Collector in last weekend's Blue Grass at Keeneland. McPeek reported his plans remain in flux when it came to try Swiss Skydiver once again against males in the Kentucky Derby or point toward the Kentucky Oaks.

Other top fillies expected to take betting attention in Pool 2 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager include Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Madaket Stables' Speech; Kaleem Shah, Mrs John Magnier, Michel Tabor and Derrick Smith's come-backing $100,000 Santa Ysabel (GIII) winner Donna Veloce (12-1); Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, Thomas Reiman, William Dickson and Deborah Easter's $300,000 Rachel Alexandra (GII) victor Finite; and Ciaglia Racing, Highland Yard, River Oak Farm and Dominic Savides' Ashland runner-up Venetian Harbor (12-1).

Pool 2 entrants Altaf (30-1), Mundaye Call (50-1), Paris Lights (50-1) and Project Whiskey (50-1) are not currently nominated to the Kentucky Oaks but can become eligible with a $500 late nomination on Aug. 15. Queen of God (50-1) was not originally nominated to the Oaks but Churchill Downs officials have received her late $500 nomination fee.

On March 17, Churchill Downs Incorporated announced the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) would be rescheduled from Saturday, May 2 to Saturday, Sept. 5 amid public health concerns in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks Future Wagers feature $2 Win and Exacta wagering, and provides fans of Thoroughbred racing with opportunities to place bets on possible entrants in the Kentucky Derby at odds that could be far greater than those available on the day of the race. A special Oaks/Derby Double wager also will be offered.

Bets for the KDFW can be placed on TwinSpires.com and other online wagering outlets across North America. There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during the duration of the three-day pool that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby, betting on the individual horse will be suspended immediately.

Authentic Tabbed As 4-5 Morning Line Favorite For $1 Million Haskell Stakes

Authentic was installed as the 4-5 morning line favorite to extend Bob Baffert's record for victories in the $1 million TVG.com Haskell Stakes following Wednesday's post position draw for Monmouth Park's showcase race.

A field of seven will contest the 53rd edition of the Haskell on Saturday, July 18. Authentic drew post position 2 for the mile and an eighth Grade 1 race.

Unbeaten in his first three career starts, Authentic was second to Honor A.P. in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby in his last start on June 6.

Baffert has won the Haskell a record eight times, doing so in 2015 (American Pharoah), 2014 (Bayern), 2012 (Paynter), 2011 (Coil), 2010 (Lookin at Lucky), 2005 (Roman Ruler), 2002 (War Emblem) and 2001 (Point Given).

Dr Post, trained by Todd Pletcher, was made the 5-2 second choice by Monmouth Park oddsmaker Brad Thomas. In his most recent start, Dr Post finished second in the Belmont Stakes on July 20. The son of Quality Road-Mary Delaney by Hennessy drew post position 1.

In a first for the race, the Haskell will offer points for the Kentucky Derby, with 100 going to the winner, 40 to the runner-up, 20 for third and 10 for fourth. In addition, The Haskell has been designated as “Win and You're In” race for the Breeders' Cup Classic.

BetMakers, in partnership with Monmouth Park, is also sponsoring a $1 million bonus for any horse that wins the Haskell, the Kentucky Derby (re-scheduled to Sept. 5) and the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 7.

First race post on Haskell Day, which includes the Grade 1 United Nations, is noon. NBC will televise the Haskell Day card from 5 to 6 p.m. as part of the “Breeders' Cup Challenge Series Win and You're In – presented by America's Best Racing.”

Prix Jean Prat Winner Pinatubo Now Heading Standings For Cartier 3-Year-Old Colt

Pinatubo, winner of the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt award in 2019, now heads the latest standings for Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt in 2020 following his victory in the G1 Qatar Prix Jean Prat at Deauville, France, on July 12.

The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. There are eight equine awards – the Cartier Horse Of The Year, the Cartier Older Horse, the Cartier Sprinter, the Cartier Stayer, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt, the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly, the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly.

European horseracing's top awards are delivered through a tried and tested combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30%), combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers (35%) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph (35%). The participation of the public plays a crucial role in determining the winners of each year's Cartier Racing Awards and gives horseracing fans the chance to put forward their favourite horses in a meaningful way.

In addition to the equine awards, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 16-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months. The 10 most recent recipients have been Pat Smullen, David Oldrey, Sir Michael Stoute, Aidan O'Brien, Jack Berry, Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Jim Bolger, Team Frankel, Barry Hills and Richard Hannon Sr.

The 30th annual Cartier Racing Awards will be awarded in November. Cartier continues its ongoing support with the presentation of Cartier Racing Awards in 2020, despite the cancellation of the traditional awards ceremony at The Dorchester in London, due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Cartier looks forward to resuming the awards ceremony in 2021.

Homebred by the Maktoum family's Godolphin operation, Shamardal colt Pinatubo (56 points) went through 2019 unbeaten in six races, culminating with G1 victories at the Curragh and Newmarket. The Charlie Appleby-trained colt began this season with placed efforts in the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and at Royal Ascot in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes before registering a third career success at G1 level in the Qatar Prix Jean Prat. His closest pursuer in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Colt category is Santiago (48), who was successful in the G2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot before going on to land the G1 Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby.

Pinatubo also enters the reckoning for Cartier Horse of the Year, where the standings continue to be headed by Way To Paris (72), who has scored at G1 and G2 level already in 2020. Way To Paris, owned by Paolo Ferrario and trained by Andrea Marcialis, also leads in the Cartier Older Horse category. A significant mover in both the Cartier Horse of the Year and Cartier Older Horse standings is Nazeef (48), trained by John Gosden for Hamdan Al Maktoum. A daughter of Invincible Spirit, Nazeef has won all three of her starts so far this year. Her latest victory was her best yet as she took the G1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes on July 10, one of the highlights of Newmarket's Moët & Chandon July Festival.

Also successful at the three-day meeting was Oxted (40), who handed trainer Roger Teal a first G1 success in the six-furlong G1 Darley July Cup. The four-year-old Mayson gelding progressed through handicap company last season and displayed further improvement when landing the G3 Betway Abernant Stakes on his return to action at Newmarket in June. Oxted currently leads the Cartier Sprinter category alongside Golden Horde (40), winner of the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and third behind Oxted at Newmarket.

Love (64) continues to maintain her clear lead in the Cartier Three-Year-Old Filly category following her Classic victories in the G1 QIPCO 1000 Guineas and G1 Investec Oaks. The Galileo filly, trained by Aidan O'Brien for a Coolmore syndicate, is set to head to York next for the G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks in August.

It is a similar story in the Cartier Stayer division where Stradivarius (32), who was crowned Cartier Stayer in 2018 and 2019, continues to head the standings. Owned by Bjorn Nielsen and trained by John Gosden, Stradivarius claimed his third consecutive success in the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and is expected to attempt for a fourth win the G1 Qatar Goodwood Cup on July 28.
