Tampa: Two Mandatory Payouts For Ultimate Six Next Week, Simulcast Wagering Returns July 2

The eighth annual, two-day Summer Festival of Racing on Tuesday and Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs will feature mandatory payouts both days on the track's popular 20-cent Ultimate 6 wager.

The current jackpot grew to $61,218 Wednesday. The wager requires bettors to correctly select the winners of each of the last six races. The entire Ultimate 6 pool will be distributed both days to all bettors selecting the most winners.

Tuesday's card is the final day of the 2019-2020 meeting, with Wednesday the first day of the 2020-2021 meeting, scheduled to resume in late November. Spectators are not allowed; fans may bet on the Ultimate 6 through various account-wagering sites such as NYRA Bets, DRF Bets and TVG.

Full-card simulcast wagering returns to Tampa Bay Downs on Thursday, July 2 with Thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing seven days a week.

Wagering areas will include the first floor of the Grandstand; The Silks Poker Room, which reopened June 14; and, beginning July 3, the Legends Bar on the second floor of the Grandstand, which will be open each Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Food and beverage service will be available. The Riders Up! bar on the first floor of the Grandstand will be open every day from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Patrons must have their temperatures taken at the track entrance. Individuals with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be denied admittance. Facemasks are required and social distancing will be enforced.

Beginning July 3, programs and Daily Racing Forms will be on sale from 11:15 a.m.-5 p.m., Fridays through Sundays, on the first floor of the Grandstand. Mutuel tellers will sell programs and forms on the remaining days. Bettors can wager with mutuel tellers and through self-service terminals.

Online Florida Lottery sales will not be available. Clubhouse areas, including The Sports Gallery and the Carrels area, remain closed until further notice.

The Fourth of July weekend includes Thoroughbred racing at such major tracks as Belmont Park, Gulfstream, Monmouth, Laurel and Woodbine, as well as a number of other tracks.

Since Tampa Bay Downs closed to spectators in mid-March due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, all areas of the track have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to offer customers a safe, welcoming environment. Those efforts continue on a daily basis.

Del Mar’s 2020 Wagering Menu Retains Early Pick 4, Late Pick 5

Del Mar's 2020 betting menu will offer 17 different ways for racing fans to back their favorites at the seaside oval as it presents its 81st racing season between July 10 and September 7.

Though current plans call for the track to race without fans in the stands, the many satellite and online opportunities to wager and follow the action are expected to provide handle results similar to – and possibly even better than – past years. In 2019, 90% of Del Mar's betting took place away from the racetrack.

The track's bet roster starts with the traditional win, place and show wagers and expands all the way out to several five- and six-horse combinations.

Three relatively new multi-race bets that have proven well-liked by the track's punters are again on tap this summer. They are the early Pick Four, beginning on Race 2 at a .50¢ price; a late Pick 5 offered on the last five races daily, also at the .50¢ level, and a Win, Place, Show Parlay available for a minimum of two races and a maximum of six. It is a $2 bet.

In addition to its Early Pick Four, the track will continue to offer its usual Pick Four on the last four races on the day's card, a bet that has proven to be one of the most popular in the country and regularly registers $1-million-plus pools on weekends. Further, the late Pick Five will be similar to the track's early Pick Five held on the day's initial five events. And the Win, Place, Show Parlay will be presented using the standard single-bet W-P-S takeout of 15.43% instead of a multi-bet takeout that goes above 20%.

Del Mar also will continue with its longstanding $2 Pick Six on all racing days, along with the “Single Ticket Jackpot” addition to it that the track introduced during its 2016 fall season. Under the “Jackpot” rules, a separate pool accumulates alongside the regular one if nobody hits the bet as a lone ticket holder. This allows for a large separate pool to grow even in the case of a “hit' on the Pick Six by two or more players. The “Jackpot” pool often reaches six figures in fairly rapid order and can be expected to do so throughout the stand.

And, as it has the past several summers, Del Mar will schedule two “mandatory payouts” on the “Jackpot” pool: first on TVG Pacific Classic Day (Saturday, August 22), then on Closing Day, Monday, September 7. That means that a Pick Six winner on either of those dates would share not only in the regular pool, but the full “Jackpot” pool besides. Additionally, consolation winners on those days also would share in the “Jackpot” payout.

“Seeing what has happened at other tracks that have raced without fans because of the COVID-19 situation is giving us encouragement,” said Del Mar's director of mutuels Bill Navarro. “Across the board nationally betting has been strong. Wagering is the lifeblood of our sport and we believe we can – and will – have a good summer in that regard at Del Mar.”

The full array of Del Mar bets is as follows: $2 win, place and show (all races); $1 Exacta (all); $2 Quinella (all); .50¢ Trifecta (all); $2 Rolling Doubles (all except last); $1 Rolling Pick 3 (all except last two); $1 Superfecta (.10¢ minimum – all); $1 Place Pick All (starts w/Race 1 or 2); $1 Super High 5 (last); $2 Pick Six (last six); .50¢ Players' Pick 5 (first five and last five); .50¢ Pick 4 (Races 2 thru 5 and last four), and $2 Win-Place-Show Parlay (all races but last).

Del Mar will race on a Friday – Saturday – Sunday schedule throughout the summer, ending on its traditional closing day, Labor Day Monday, September 7. First post daily throughout the session will be 2 p.m.

Prize Money Released for Qatar Goodwood Festival

Goodwood Racecourse released prize money for the 2020 Qatar Goodwood Festival Thursday. The five-day meeting, which will kick off with the G1 Goodwood Cup July 28, will offer a total prize fund of just over £2,300,000. The Qatar Goodwood Festival will run from July 28 through Aug. 1. A purse of ₤275,000 will be on offer for the week’s feature race–the G1 Qatar Sussex S.

“Obviously prize money for this year’s Qatar Goodwood Festival is less than previous years, and significantly less than we would want, but any major race meeting is reliant on attendances and hospitality for the majority of its revenue,” said Adam Waterworth, MD at Goodwood. “Without the support of all our sponsors –but especially that from the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club–we would not have been able to offer anything like the prize money levels.”

NYRA Partners With Churchill, Thistledown For Cross Country Pick 5 On Saturday

The New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) will partner with Churchill Downs and Thistledown to host a Cross Country Pick 5 on Saturday, June 27.

The wager, featuring all graded stakes races across the three tracks, will have live coverage of all the races in the sequence available with America's Day at the Races on Fox Sports and MSG+.

Thistledown, located in North Randall, Ohio, will kick off the sequence with the Grade 3, $500,000 Ohio Derby. The Buckeye State's premier race will be a Kentucky Derby prep race for the first time with the “Run for the Roses” being moved to September due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carded as Race 8 at 4:22 p.m. Eastern, the Ohio Derby will award 20-8-4-2 qualifying points to the top-four finishers. Among the contenders is Storm the Court, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in November who is winless in three starts this year, though he did finish third in the Grade 2 San Felipe in March at Santa Anita. Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen will enter a pair of contenders in Rowdy Yates and Code Runner, who ran eighth in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby before defeating allowance company earlier this month at Lone Star.

Action will shift to Belmont Park for the second leg, with the Grade 2, $150,000 True North for 4-year-olds and up in Race 9 at 5:36 p.m. Grade 1-winner Promises Fulfilled returns off a more than eight month layoff as part of an eight-horse field that also includes Yorkton, a multiple graded-stakes winner on synthetic, who is seeking his first win on the main track.

For the Pick 5's third race, Churchill will take its star turn with the Grade 2, $500,000 Stephen Foster in Race 10 at 5:47 p.m. A “Win and You're In” qualifier for the Breeders' Cup Classic in November at Keeneland, the Stephen Foster, for 4-year-olds and up contesting at 1 1/8 miles, will see Tom's d'Etat, a winner of three straight, including the Grade 1 Clark in November over the same track, breaking from post 5 for trainer Al Stall, Jr. Other contenders include By My Standards, the winner of the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic and the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap, and Owendale, the winner of the Blame at Churchill on May 23.

Belmont will host the fourth leg with the Grade 1, $250,000 Just a Game for fillies and mares 4-years-old and up going one mile on the Widener turf in Race 10 at 6:08 p.m. Trainer Chad Brown, seeking his fourth straight win in the race, will saddle three of the seven contenders, including the top-two morning line selections in 7-5 Uni and 8-5 Newspaperofrecord, along with Regal Glory [10-1].

Defending Champion Turf Mare Uni will make her 2020 debut in the Just a Game, having not raced since taking last year's Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita, where she became the sixth female to score a win in the race.

Newspaperofrecord arrives off a win Grade 3 Intercontinental on June 6 over the Widener turf. Other contenders include Got Stormy, Beau Recall, Valedictorian and Zofelle.

Closing out the sequence will be the Grade 3, $100,000 Regret at Churchill in Race 11 at 6:20 p.m. Two-time stakes-winning filly Micheline will be in search of her first graded stakes victory as part of a 13-horse field. Harvey's Lil Goil, winner of the Busanda in February at Aqueduct Racetrack, drew post 10.

The minimum bet for the multi-track, multi-race wager is 50 cents. Wagering on the Cross Country Pick 5 is also available on ADW platforms and at simulcast facilities across the country. Every week will feature a mandatory payout of the net pool.
