Benjamin Messina, a 19-year-old jumps jockey in France, was tragically killed in a head-on car accident on Sunday just three weeks after riding his first winner, reports The Mirror.
The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency services at the scene were unable to save either Messina or the other two individuals involved, a 31-year-old man and 26-year-old woman.
Messina had been booked to ride his first winner back on Sunday at Corlay; Gag Du Boulay won with Maxime Bonsergent aboard.
